Many climate impact applications are sensitive to local differentials in the climate system. This study investigates how eco-geographic factors influence the local climate and propagate eco-climatic complexes that vary spatio-temporally. Local geography data including elevation, slope, aspect, rainfall, temperature, vegetation, population density, and soil potential for agriculture were integrated and analyzed using geographic information system and principal component analysis. The result was profiled for local climate drivers and associated spatial structures in present and future climate (2046-2065) scenarios. The results suggest a local climate system driven by the coupling between terrain, rainfall and temperature in all seasons. In the present climate, this coupling creates eco-climatic complexes that extend from the southeast to northwest corridor in all seasons except June-July-August (JJA) when it is shifted to the northeast axis. This pattern is projected to continue in the future climate scenario, but its spatial influence and intensity would weaken around the northwest axis and rainfall will become less significant in the system in JJA. The clustering of rural settlements these complexes suggests the climate-positives produced by the system significantly support rural livelihoods. Thus, these eco-climatic complexes represent climate sensitive natural resource systems that should be targeted as a fulcrum for climate change mitigation and adaptation in the wooded savannah.

Ti-6Al-4V/TiN composites were successfully consolidated by spark plasma sintering(SPS).TiN addition to Ti-6Al-4V was varied from1%to5%(volume fraction).The effect of TiN addition on the densification,microstructure,microhardness and wear behaviour of Ti-6Al-4V was *** results showed reduction in sintered density of the compacts from99%to97%with increase in TiN ***,an increase in microhardness value was recorded from HV0.1389to HV0.1488.X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis showed that the intensity of diffraction peaks of TiN phase in the composites increased also with formation of small amount of secondary Ti2N *** analysis of SPS sintered nanocomposites possessed a refinement ofα/βphase microstructure in Ti-6Al-4V with the presence of uniformly dispersed TiN *** worn surface of the composite showed improved abrasive wear resistance with non-continuous grooves as compared to the sintered Ti-6Al-4V without TiN addition.

The article reviews a brief literature on the modeling of hydrogen storage device for fuel cell. Different dimensional approaches in modeling hydrogen absorption/desorption in a metal hydride reactor for use in fuel cell are summarized. Mathematical modeling equations involved are also stated. The effect of various operating parameters such as temperature, concentration, viscosity, thermal conductivity and time on the gas is also verified. The importance of various simulation software with reference to their major functions is also identified. The review concludes on the opportunities and challenges with the use of hydrogen as an alternative renewable energy.

对采自尼日利亚南部城市阿贝奥库塔冈比亚按蚊复合体Anopheles gambiae complex的形态特征进行了研究。依据2005年8月至2006年7月灯诱捕获的364个冈比亚按蚊复合体标本,分别对它们的触角、翅、喙、前足、中足和后足6个部位的长度进行了测量,对月平均值进行回归分析,同时利用差异系数(coefficient of difference,CD)进行近缘分析。分析显示,各特征的长度平均值雨季大于旱季,但是回归分析表明长度变化与季节不显著相关(P>0.05)。差异系数分析结果表明,仅触角长度和翅长显示此复合体为两个不同的种群(CD>1.28),而其他特征值表明为同一种群。因此,该研究结果提示触角长度及翅长对冈比亚按蚊复合体近缘种的区分有重要参考价值。

Background: Worldwide, the burden of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors is rising with devastating impacts on the productive workforce. In developing nations, it has further led to an unstable population pyramid as a result of premature deaths of her workforce leading to the continued tapering of the pyramidal apex. Inspite of this, many studies were conducted among the general population neglecting the local government civil servants who are seen as policy implementers. Therefore, the study assessed the pattern of CV risk factors in South-western Nigeria. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 260 local government workers selected by multistage sampling technique from July to September 2017. A pretested, interviewer-administered questionnaire was administered to obtain socio-demographic and behavioural information. Lipid analysis, anthropometric, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose measurements were done according to protocols. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 25;bivariate analysis was done using Chi-square. Level of significance was at 5%. Results: The mean age of respondents was 46.0 ± 6.7 years. The proportion of participants with good knowledge of risk factors was 57.7%. The proportion of respondent with hypertension, visceral obesity, general obesity, diabetes, smoking and physical inactivity was 40.4%, 35.0%, 52.2%, 38.2%, 5.8% and 75.8% respectively. Introduction: Malaria retinopathy refers to retinal abnormalities unique to malaria resulting from prolonged parasitization by Plasmodium falciparum. Identifying these features and treating them promptly could prevent lethal complications of malaria. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify and compare retinal findings in severe and uncomplicated malaria. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 260 subjects was equally divided into two groups of severe and uncomplicated malaria. Direct ophthalmoscopy was done at recruitment for all subjects. Information on sociodemographics, physical examination, nutritional status, and retinal abnormalities were recorded. A p-value Results: There were 141 (54.2%) males and 70 (26.9%) aged between 13 - 24 months. Severe anaemia, multiple convulsions, prostration, and cerebral malaria were the predominant forms of severe malaria. Twenty-three (17.7%) subjects with severe malaria and none with uncomplicated malaria had retinopathy. Retinal whitening (17.7%), vessel changes (16.2%), and retinal haemorrhages (5.4%) were the major forms of retinopathy. Retinopathy occurred in 43.8% of those with cerebral malaria. Retinal whitening and vessel changes were significantly associated with multiple convulsions, cerebral malaria, and metabolic acidosis;retinal haemorrhage was associated with cerebral malaria and haemoglobinuria (p = 0.022) and vessel changes with hypoglycaemia (p = 0.037). Cerebral malaria was an independent predictor of retinal whitening (p = 0.004) and vessel changes (p = 0.008) while haemoglobinuria was an independent predictor of retinal haemorrhages (p = 0.007). Conclusion: Ophthalmoscopy is an important examination in children with severe malaria which could assist in early detection and with prompt treatment, reduce morbidities and mortalities.

Flyrock is a significant environmental and safety concern in mining and *** arises from various geological and blast design factors,posing risks to workers,machinery,and nearby *** study examined how these factors affect the rate and distance of flyrock projections caused by *** address this issue,advanced machine learning(ML)models were used to predict flyrock distances in the Akoko Edo dolomite *** models examined included bidirectional recurrent neural networks(BRNNs),support vector regression(SVR)with different kernels(SVR-S,SVR-RBF,SVR-L,SVR-P),long short-term memory(LSTM)networks,and random forest(RF)algorithms.A case study was conducted using 258 blasting data samples to develop these *** factors influencing flyrock were identified:blast hole burden distance,maximum instantaneous charge,and rock brittleness *** these factors,a flyrock possibility assessment chart was created to enhance the safety of small-scale mining *** model’s prediction accuracy was evaluated using correlation coefficients and four performance *** LSTM model stood out,achieving the highest coefficient of correlation(R2=0.99)for both training and testing *** indicates that the LSTM model accurately predicts blast-induced flyrock *** study also revealed that the Gaussian-RBF kernel SVR has high prediction accuracy when compared to other SVR variants(SVR-S,SVR-L,and SVR-P).In conclusion,the study compared various ML models for flyrock reduction and found that the LSTM model was the most effective in estimating blast-induced flyrock distances.
