Extracellular polymeric substances(EPS)are present externally to the microorganisms and play an important role in attachment and biofilm *** polymers possess antibacterial and antifouling *** this study,the antifouling activity of EPS produced by an epibiotic bacterium associated with macroalga Ulva lactuca was assessed against fouling bacteria and barnacle *** indicate that the EPS isolated from the epibiotic bacterium inhibits the biofilm formation of the bacteria without much antibacterial ***,the EPS reduced the settlement of barnacle larvae on the hard substrate under laboratory *** epibiotic bacterium was identified as Kocuria flava based on 16 S rRNA gene *** EPS was further analysed using Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR),nuclear magnetic resonance(NmR)and X-ray diffraction(XRD)to understand the biochemical *** analysis revealed the presence of polysaccharides,proteins,acetyl amine and succinyl *** electron microscope analysis indicated that the EPS consisted of aggregated and irregular sphere-shaped particles.

Soft corals are an important group of organisms that live in reef ecosystems. In this study, the chemical defense of soft coral Sinularia polydactyla against biofilm-forming bacteria was assessed. The soft coral S. polydactyla was collected from the Obhur creek of the Red Sea and the bioactive compounds were extracted under different conditions using methanol and hexane as solvents. Results revealed that the bioactive compounds produced by the soft coral S. polydactyla were active against the growth, hydrophobicity and extracellular polymeric substances production of the biofilm-forming bacteria. However, the damage or injury in soft coral tissue caused a decrease in the activity against biofilm-forming bacteria. GC-mS analysis revealed that sesquiterpenes were abundant in normal coral sample extract while cembranoids were abundant in damaged coral sample extracts. In general, the results indicated that the soft corals either under stress or with damage may not have a strong chemical defense against the colonizing marine organisms and competitors.

microbial contamination and bacteria growth in the cementing makup water impact cementing operation and *** avoid the premature cement setting caused by microbial growth,the water is usually treated with biocides for microbial control before *** treatment will also prevent biodegradation of the added polymers and stabilize the slurry rheological ***-up water and cementing mix samples were collected from active drilling rigs in the *** 12 hours biocide addition program,the tested biocide at 50,100,250,and 500 ppm for cementing operations revealed acceptable control of both GAB and SRB numbers in one Field,but not in another *** 24 hours biocide addition program,revealed varying levels for control microbial contamination in cementing operations,with higher efficiency with Field B samples opposed to field A,and with better control at higher concentrations of tested biocide at 250,and 500 *** a recommendation therefore,usage of another biocide with a different chemistry at Field A is encouraged once a new biocide is selected.

In continuation of our recent report on molybdates [Appl. Phys. A 124, 44(2018)], the structural, electronic, elastic,and optical properties of ZmoO3(Z = ba and Sr) molybdates are investigated under pressure(10 GPa–50 GPa) comprehensively by deploying the density functional theory. Our investigations show that the studied compounds exhibit stable cubic phase with metallic attributes. The thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy of formation, Debye, and melting temperatures of the compounds are observed to increase with pressure. While the Gr¨uninsen parameter and the coefficient of super-plastic deformation decrease as the pressure increases. mechanical properties elucidate an increase in measured values of hardness, bulk, shear, and young’s moduli with pressure. Our results suggest that the studied compounds are useful in high pressure optoelectronic devices. The optical properties of bamoO3(BmO) and SrmoO3(SmO) are computed for the radiation of up to 35 eV. The present compounds show beneficial optical applications in the anti-reflection coating,lenses, and the high avoiding solar heating applications in the variant applied pressure.

The present study reports the content of 14 heavy metals (Al, Fe, Ti, Ag, As, ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in twenty-two (n = 22) lipstick products of imported and locally manufactured at the local market in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia using Inductivity Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrophotometer (ICP-OES). The overall average contents of Al, Fe, Ti, Ag, As, ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn were 3131.18 ± 0.09, 9642.92 ± 0.079, 46.59 ± 0.109, 0.545 ± 0.009, 2.041 ± 0.024, 1371.439 ± 0.085, 0.134 ± 0.008, 4.242 ± 0.02, ND, 3.934 ± 0.03, 19.712 ± 0.012, 20.196 ± 0.056, 0.725 ± 0.012, and 858.666 ± 0.083 μg/g, respectively. The correction coefficient of the results is up to 0.9995, showing an excellent linear relationship between metal concentrations in samples. The results also revealed that, the total concentrations of toxic metals in various samples ranged from 1201.35 - 60,800.36 μg/g. The dark-colored lipstick samples 1B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 7B, B8, 9B, and 10B revealed high content of total toxic metals compared to the light-colored lipstick samples 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 4C, 5A, 7A, 8A, 9A, and 10A. The concentrations of Al, Fe, ba, and Zn in the samples within each class under investigation are relatively high whereas the concentrations of Ag, As, Cd, Co, Cu, and Pb are lowest;and Ti, mn, and Ni contents were below 100 μg/g. Chromium was not detected in any sample. Since no safe limits for most of these metals relating to cosmetic products are available in Saudi Arabia, it is hard to ascertain whether the values obtained in this study are relatively high or low. Prolonged use of products containing these elements may pose a threat to human health and could damage the environment.

The aim of this study is to determine the types of heavy metals frequently present in makkah wells and the possible environmental causes of their distribution and accumulation. makkah lies in a mountain range dominated by different types of rocks from the Precambrian and Lower Paleozoic eras, as well as subordinate sedimentary rocks and basaltic lava flow from the Tertiary and Quaternary periods. Natural contaminants in makkah wells water can be attributed to the unique location. many epidemiological studies have identified associations between the ingestion of wells water contaminated with heavy metals and increased risk of some illnesses. This study presents exclusive information on the levels and distribution of 9 heavy metals—arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, mercury, and selenium—in the wells water in various rural and urban areas of makkah city. These naturally occurring elements are considered significant markers of water purity. more than 160 wells were involved in this three-year investigation. Water samples were collected during different seasons in order to assess any changes in the distribution and concentration of these heavy metals throughout the year. The collected water samples were filtered and digested before analysis using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP/mS). We found the following sequence of concentrations of heavy metals in the studied wells: ba > Se >Cr > As > Co > Cu> Hg > Pb > Cd. Arsenic, barium, chromium, and selenium were the most abundant contaminants in the wells studied. The concentrations of the other heavy metals ranged from non-detectable to 3 μg/L. Although low, these values are also reported in comparisons with the local and international strict values and standards which govern the maximum contaminant levels permitted for long-term daily consumption.

This is a continuity of a series of taxonomic papers where materials are examined,described and novel combinations are proposed where necessary to improve our traditional species concepts and provide updates on their *** addition to extensive morphological descriptions and appropriate asexual and sexual connections,DNA sequence data are also analysed from concatenated datasets(rDNA,TEF-a,RBP2 and b-Tubulin)to infer phylogenetic relationships and substantiate systematic position of taxa within appropriate *** new species or combinations are being proposed,we apply an integrative approach(morphological and molecular data as well as ecological features wherever applicable).Notes on 125 fungal taxa are compiled in this paper,including eight new genera,101 new species,two new combinations,one neotype,four reference specimens,new host or distribution records for eight species and one alternative *** new genera introduced in this paper are Alloarthopyrenia,Arundellina,Camarosporioides,Neomassaria,Neomassarina,Neotruncatella,Paracapsulospora and *** new species are Alfaria spartii,Alloarthopyrenia italica,Anthostomella ravenna,***,Arthrinium paraphaeospermum,Arundellina typhae,Aspergillus koreanus,Asterina cynometrae,Bertiella ellipsoidea,Blastophorum aquaticum,Cainia globosa,Camarosporioides phragmitis,Ceramothyrium menglunense,Chaetosphaeronema achilleae,Chlamydotubeufia helicospora,Ciliochorella phanericola,Clavulinopsis aurantiaca,Colletotrichum insertae,Comoclathris italica,Coronophora myricoides,Cortinarius fulvescentoideus,***,***,***,Cunninghamella gigacellularis,Cyathus pyristriatus,Cytospora cotini,Dematiopleospora alliariae,***,Diaporthe aseana,***,Distoseptispora multiseptata,***,***,Dothiora buxi,Emericellopsis persica,Gloniopsis calami,Helicoma guttulatum,Helvella floriforma,***,Hermatomyces subiculosa,Ju
