the association of pollutants (nutrients, heavy metals and organic compounds) with colloidal and suspended particle matter(SPM) plays a dominant role in determining their transport, fate, biogeochemistry, bioavailability and toxicity in natural waters. A scheme for the fractionation and composition of colloidal and suspended particulate matter from river waters has been tested. Sieving, continuous flow centrifugation and tangential flow filtration were used to collect gram amounts of colloidal and particulate matters. the separation scheme was able to process large samples(100L), within reasonable times(1 day) and the apparatus was portable. the aquatic colloid was also separated with high resolution, and sized using sedimentation field\|flow fractionation technique. the mass\|based particle size distribution for the river water sample showed a broad size distribution between 0\^05 and 0\^4 μm with the maximum around 0\^14 μm. there was a systematic increase in the content of organic carbon, Mg, Ca, Na, Cu and Zn with decreasing particle size, highlighting the importance of the colloidal(tion.

Ribosome biogenesis and protein synthesis are fundamental rate-limiting steps for cell growth and *** ribosomal proteins(RPs),comprising the structural parts of the ribosome,are essential for ribosome assembly and *** addition to their canonical ribosomal functions,multiple RPs have extra-ribosomal functions including activation of p53-dependent or p53-independent pathways in response to stress,resulting in cell cycle arrest and *** in ribosome biogenesis,translation,and the functions of individual RPs,including mutations in RPs have been linked to a diverse range of human congenital disorders termed *** are characterized by tissue-specific phenotypic abnormalities and higher cancer risk later in *** discoveries of somatic mutations in RPs in multiple tumor types reinforce the connections between ribosomal defects and *** this article,we review the most recent advances in understanding the molecular consequences of RP mutations and ribosomal defects in ribosomopathies and *** particularly discuss the molecular basis of the transition from hypo-to hyper-proliferation in ribosomopathies with elevated cancer risk,a paradox termed"Dameshek's riddle."Furthermore,we review the current treatments for ribosomopathies and prospective therapies targeting ribosomal *** also highlight recent advances in ribosome stress-based cancer ***,insights into the mechanisms of resistance to therapies targeting ribosome biogenesis bring new perspectives into the molecular basis of cancer susceptibility in ribosomopathies and new clinical implications for cancer therapy.

In situ inflow and outflow permeability tests with the bAt probe at SarapuíII soft clay test site are presented.A description of the bAt permeability test is provided,discussing its advantages and shortcomings,especially in the case of very soft clays under low *** pressures were monitored during probe installation and were found to be slightly lower than piezocone u2 pore pressures,consistent with the position of the *** role of filter tip saturation was investigated after the usual saturation procedure provided an unsatisfactory pore pressure response during probe *** show that the vacuum saturation procedure provides adequate response during installation and increases the reliability of the coefficient of permeability determination in early *** inflow and outflow tests yielded similar results,indicating that careful execution of the test can lead to good test repeatability regardless of the loading *** sequences of alternated inflow and outflow tests have yielded similar results,indicating that soil reconsolidation and filter clogging were negligible in the tests *** are presented concerning the relationship between index parameters and the in situ coefficient of permeability for SarapuíII clay,which plot outside the range of existing databases.

Cyclic oxidation behavior of two-phaseγ+γ'-Ni-22Al-5 and -10 Pt alloys in air with and without 30 vol.%H_2O at 1000℃was *** oxidation of 5 and 10 Pt alloys in air was initially rapid and followed by a slow steady-state *** oxidation during this steady-state stage was followed the parabolic rate law,and the parabolic rate constants for the two different Pt content alloys were *** the mass change of 5 Pt alloy during the initial rapid oxidation stage was much higher than that of 10 Pt,and it resulted in higher oxidation mass gain on 5 Pt alloy after 500 *** oxidation behavior,initial rapid followed by slow steady-state,was observed when the alloys were oxidized in air+30%H_2O,however the initial oxidation mass change in the wet atmosphere was much higher for both alloys than in ***,the oxidation rate constants for both alloys during the steady-state stage significantly decreased in the atmosphere with water ***,oxidation mass gain on the 5 Pt alloy was not observed after about 100 cycles of oxidation.

Short-reach optical interconnects among massive serves in data centers have attracted extensive research recently. Increasing capacity, cost and power efficiency as well as wavelength switching between data center network nodes are still key challenges for current optical interconnects. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate the real-time intermode optical wavelength switching technique, for high-speed wavelength flexible data center interconnects. A10 Gbit/s 1 550 nm single mode vertical cavity surface emitting laser(VCSEL) is optically injected and used to control a 10 Gbit/s multimode VCSEL carrier at 850 nm. Results show that a clearly open eye diagram is achieved at back-to-back analysis, implying a successful wavelength switch and error-free operation at 10 Gbit/s. A fully optical wavelength conversion of a multimode VCSEL operation at 850 nm using a single mode VCSEL subject to external optical injection at 1 550 nm is reported. this work opens new perspectives towards the development of a cost effective high-speed real-time inter-band wavelength switching technique between servers and network devices operating at different transmission windows at network nodes, for current and future optical interconnects.

In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a vertical cavity surface emitting laser(VCSEL)-based simultaneous 45.2 Gbit/s(2×22.6 Gbit/s) 4-PAM data and 8 GHz(2×4 GHz) phase modulated reference frequency(RF) clock signal transmission dense wavelength division multiplexing(DWDM) system for optical interconnects. two low-cost power-efficient 10 G VCSEL channels with central wavelengths at 1 550.71 nm and 1 551.11 nm are separately modulated with 22.6 Gbit/s 4-PAM data, therefore doubling the channel bit rate. Carrier spectral efficiency per channel is further maximized by exploiting the phase attribute in transmission of a 4 Hz RF clock signal. to further maximize the network capacity, the two VCSEL channels are densely multiplexed at 0.4 nm spacing. We therefore experimentally achieve the network data rate of 45.2 Gbit/s with 8 GHz phase modulated RF clock signal. the results show that receiver sensitivities of-11.02 dbm and-9.98 dbm are experimentally achieved for VCSEL channels of 1 550.71 nm and 1 551.11 nm respectively without the phase modulated RF clock signal. However, the introduction of a phase modulated clock signal contributes to a maximum interference penalty of 0.57 dbm and 0.41 dbm for the considered channels respectively. Simultaneous distribution of transmission data and reference clock signal over shared network structure maximizes the carrier spectral efficiency and network capacity with low cost.

A unified approach is proposed for making a continuity adjustment on some control charts for attributes, e.g., np-chart and c-chart, through adding a uniform (0, 1) random observation to the conventional sample statistic (e.g., and c b>i b>). the adjusted sample statistic then has a continuous distribution. Consequently, given any type I risk α (the probability that the sample statistic is on or beyond the control limits), control charts achieving the exact value of α can be readily constructed. Guidelines are given for when to use the continuity adjustment control chart, the conventional Shewhart control chart (with ±3 standard deviations control limits), and the control chart based on the exact distribution of the sample statistic before adjustment.

An attempt is made in the present study to obtain the relationships among process parameters and physical dimensions of AA6063 aluminium alloy coating on IS2062 mild steel obtained through friction surfacing and their impact on strength and ductility of the coating. Factorial experimental design technique was used to investigate and select the parameter combination to achieve a coating with adequate strength and ductility. Spindle speed, axial force and table traverse speed were observed to be the most significant factors on physical dimensions. It was observed that the thickness of the coating decreased as the coating width increased. In addition, the width and thickness of the coatings are higher at low and high torques. At intermediate torque values, when the force is high, the width of the coating is high, and its thickness is thin; and when the force is low, the width and thickness are low. the interaction effect between axial force(F)-table traverse speed(Vx) and spindle speed(N)-table traverse speed(Vx) produced an increasing effect on coating width and thickness, but other interactions exhibited decreasing influence. It has also been observed that sound coatings could be obtained in a narrow set of parameter range as the substrate-coating materials are metallurgically incompatible and have a propensity to form brittle intermetallics.

Systematic Screening of the Serotonin Receptor 1A (5-Ht1A) Gene in Chronic tinnitus

Objective Chronic tinnitus is a highly prevalent condition and has been hypothesized to result from an innate disturbance in central nervous serotonergic transmission. Given the frequent comorbidity with major depression and anxiety, we argue that candidate genes for these disorders are likely to overlap. the present study addresses the gene encoding for the 5-Ht1A receptor as a putative risk factor for tinnitus. Methods In 88 subjects with a diagnosis of chronic subjective tinnitus who underwent a detailed neurootological examination, the entire 5-Ht1A gene was amplified using overlapping PCR products. Amplicons were custom sequenced bidirectionally and were screened for variants in multiple alignments against the human genome reference. Results We identified a synonymous C > t exchange at residue 184 (Pro) in 7/88 subjects, but detected no missense variants in the population under study. Specifically, the following residues were fully conserved: 16 (Pro), 22(Gly), 28(Ile), 98 (Val), 220(Arg), 267 (Val), 273 (Gly), and 418 (Asn). Discussion the present data count against the causation of chronic tinnitus by a change in the 5-Ht1A receptor’s amino acid sequence. However, the allele frequency for the 184Pro minor allele (0.04) reached twice the frequency reported in control cohorts from the same ethnicity. Additional investigations are invited to clarify the role of the 5-Ht1A polymorphism in larger samples, and to control for comorbid affective disorders.
