Influence of socio-economic status and environmental factors on serologically diagnosed Japanese encephalitis cases in the state of West bengal, India during 2005-2010

Objectives: The main aim of the current study is to examine the influence of socio-economic status and environmental factors on serologically diagnosed Japanese encephalitis cases in the state of West bengal, India during 2005-2010. Materials and methods: A total of 648 blood/CSF specimens were collected and/or referred from the suspected AES cases, admitted in the different medical colleges and hospitals of the state during the year of 2005-2010. These specimens were subjected to JE Mac ELISA to determine the actual JE case amongst these AES. The association of the socio-economic status and environmental factors with the serologically diagnosed JE positive cases was studied by a statistical analysis through Normal Deviate test or Z test. Result: Out of 648 specimens, only 175 (27.0%) specimens were reactive to JE IgM antibody, of which 60.0% were from the male individuals and 40.0% from the female population. Major cases were observed in the age group of 0 - 10 years;followed by 11 - 20 years. Regarding literacy, only 58.3% cases had no education and 41.7% were from the literate with varying level of education, i.e., from primary level to post gra- duate level. A total of 65.7% cases were from low income group where as only 34.3% cases were from high income group. Regarding house type, 62.3% cases lived in mud house and 37.7% cases lived in the brick house. In most of the cases (74.3%), persons were living in close proximity to rice fields/lakes/ponds. 69.7% cases were found to occur in the monsoon and post-monsoon period whereas 30.3% cases were reported in the pre-monsoon period. Conclusion: Our study concludes that socio-economic status and environmental conditions were statistically significant contextual risk factors for serologically diagnosed JE incidences in West bengal where JE is proved to be endemic in nature and such study constitutes a new report of this kind in the region.

Timely investigating post-disaster situations to locate survivors and secure hazardous sources is critical,but also very challenging and *** first responders putting their lives at risk in saving others,human-physical limits cause delays in response time,resulting in fatality and property *** this paper,we proposed and implemented a framework intended for creating collaboration between heterogeneous unmanned vehicles and first responders to make search and rescue operations safer and *** framework consists of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs),unmanned ground vehicles(UGVs),a cloud-based remote control station(RCS).A light-weight message queuing telemetry transport(MQTT)based communication is adopted for facilitating collaboration between autonomous *** effectively work under unfavorable disaster conditions,antenna tracker is developed as a tool to extend network coverage to distant areas,and mobile charging points for the UAVs are also *** proposed framework’s performance is evaluated in terms of end-to-end delay and analyzed using architectural analysis and design language(AADL).Experimental measurements and simulation results show that the adopted communication protocol performs more efficiently than other conventional communication protocols,and the implemented UAV control mechanisms are functioning *** scenarios are implemented to validate the overall effectiveness of the proposed framework and demonstrate possible use cases.

Anti-viral role of toll like receptor 4 in hepatitis b virus infection: An in vitro study

AIM Toll like receptors plays a significant anti-viral role in different infections. The aim of this study was to look into the role of toll like receptor 4(TLR4) in hepatitis b virus(HbV) *** Real time PCR was used to analyze the transcription of TLR4 signaling molecules, cell cycle regulators and HbV DNA viral load after triggering the Hep G2.2.15 cells with TLR4 specific ligand. Nuclear factor(NF)-κb translocation on TLR4 activation was analyzed using microscopic techniques. Protein and cell cycle analysis was done using Western blot and FACS *** The present study shows that TLR4 activation represses HbV infection. As a result of HbV suppression, there are several changes in host factors which include partial release in G1/S cell cycle arrest and changes in host epigenetic marks. Finally, it was observed that anti-viral action of TLR4 takes place through the NF-κb *** The study shows that TLR4 activation in HbV infection brings about changes in hepatocyte microenvironment and can be used for developing a promising therapeutic target in future.

Sense of courage:The mediating role of courage between emotional reflexivity and work-life integration among nurses in Indian hospitals

Reliable seed yield estimation is an indispensable step in plant breeding programs geared towards cultivar development in major row *** objective of this study is to develop a machine learning(ML)approach adept at soybean(Glycine max L.(Merr.))pod counting to enable genotype seed yield rank prediction from in-field video data collected by a ground *** meet this goal,we developed a multiview image-based yield estimation framework utilizing deep learning *** images captured from different angles were fused to estimate the yield and subsequently to rank soybean genotypes for application in breeding *** used data from controlled imaging environment in field,as well as from plant breeding test plots in field to demonstrate the efficacy of our framework via comparing performance with manual pod counting and yield *** results demonstrate the promise of ML models in making breeding decisions with significant reduction of time and human effort and opening new breeding method avenues to develop cultivars.

Curcumin reverses T cell-mediated adaptive immune dysfunctions in tumor-bearing hosts

Immune dysfunction is well documented during tumor progression and likely contributes to tumor immune ***81 cytotoxic T lymphocytes(CTLs)are involved in antigen-specific tumor destruction and CD41 T cells are essential for helping this CD81 T cell-dependent tumor *** often target and inhibit T-cell function to escape from immune *** dysfunction includes loss of effector and memory T cells,bias towards type 2 cytokines and expansion of T regulatory(Treg)*** has previously been shown to have antitumor activity and some research has addressed the immunoprotective potential of this plant-derived polyphenol in tumor-bearing *** we examined the role of curcumin in the prevention of tumor-induced dysfunction of T cell-based immune *** observed severe loss of both effector and memory T-cell populations,downregulation of type 1 and upregulation of type 2 immune responses and decreased proliferation of effector T cells in the presence of ***,in turn,prevented this loss of T cells,expanded central memory T cell(TCM)/effector memory T cell(TEM)populations,reversed the type 2 immune bias and attenuated the tumor-induced inhibition of T-cell proliferation in tumor-bearing *** investigation revealed that tumor burden upregulated Treg cell populations and stimulated the production of the immunosuppressive cytokines transforming growth factor(TGF)-b and IL-10 in these ***,however,inhibited the suppressive activity of Treg cells by downregulating the production of TGF-b and IL-10 in these *** importantly,curcumin treatment enhanced the ability of effector T cells to kill cancer ***,our observations suggest that the unique properties of curcumin may be exploited for successful attenuation of tumor-induced suppression of cell-mediated immune responses.

Reproductive development of two groundnut cultivars as influenced by boron and light

boron is an important micronutrient that enhances reproductive growth of crops such as *** also plays an important role for pegging of *** has been little information on the application of boron and light in groundnut in bangladesh.A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of boron and light on the reproductive development of two groundnut *** considered as two groundnut cultivars,viz.,‘Dhaka-1(C1)’and‘bARI Chinabadam-8(C2)’,three levels of boron(b),viz.,0-kg b ha^-1(b0),1-kg b ha^-1(b1)and 2-kg b ha^-1(b2),and two levels of light,viz.,normal day light(≈12-h light)and normal day light+6-h extended red light at night(≈18-h light).Result revealed that the reproductive development,yield and shelling percentage of groundnut were markedly increased with the application of *** to imposition of light all of reproductive units increased but decrease number of pods and pod *** highest reproductive unit and yield were observed from‘bARI Chinabadam-8’.Therefore,reproductive development could be improved by application of boron in improved cultivars(bARI Chinabadam-8)but not for under extended light.

Nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin＇s disease occurs in 5% of all cases of Hodgkin＇s disease. It occurs more commonly in male. Only 5% of all Hodgkin＇s lymphoma cases develop spinal cord compression and in only 0.2% cases, spinal cord compression occurs as the initial presentation. So our case is rare both in the form of the unique variety of Hodgkin＇s disease and also in the form of presentation.

Nickel Decorated Single-Wall Carbon Nanotube as CO Sensor

based on spin-polarized density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the interaction between nickel cluster decorated single-wall carbon nanotube (CNT) and CO molecule has been investigated. DFT calculations are performed with generalized gradient approximation (GGA) using Perdew-burke-Ernzerhof (PbE) functional. Interaction of CNT and cluster induces spin polarization in the CNT. Nickel decorated CNT has a large magnetic moment of 4.00 μb which decreases to 0.10 μb when CO molecule is absorbed to it. Such a drastic reduction in magnetization may be detected by SQUID magnetometer. Hence by measuring magnetization change, CNT-cluster system may be used as gas detectors. The charge transfer between the systems has been discussed through Mulliken charge analysis for different orientations of the adsorbed CO molecule. We observed that CNT-cluster system acts as electron donor and CO molecule acts as electron acceptor in this study.

Interaction of boron-Nitrogen Substitued Graphene Nanoribbon with Nucleobases: The Idea of biosensor

In this paper we have designed a biosensor device built from b-N substituted graphene nanoribbon within density functional based tight-binding (DFTb) framework. We have investigated the interaction of the nucleobases adenine (A), Guanine (G), Cytosine (C) and Thymine (T) with device. Our calculation suggests that all the nucleobases have different interaction strength when they interact with device and shows that guanine has stronger interaction with device than other nucleobases. It reveals that the absorption energy shows the hierarchy: G > C > T > A. Our results also demonstrate the transport properties of the device and how the transport properties change due to the absorption of nucleobases on the device.
