superhydrophobic poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF) membrane incorporated with nanoparticles was applied in membrane distillation to recover water from phenolic rich solution containing surfactant. The membranes coated on woven support were fabricated using phase inversion with dual bath coagulation and post-modified using silane. The membranes incorporated with TiO_2, siO_2, or a mixture of TiO_2-siO_2 nanoparticles achieved the water contact angle higher than 160°. The addition of TiO_2-siO_2 mixture into PVDF matrix further enhanced the hierarchical roughness of membrane. Hence, PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 membrane achieved the highest permeation flux and rejected 99.9% of gallic acid in the feed(100 g/L). PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 membrane also maintained a relative flux(J/J0) higher than0.9 after 8 h of operation. Even with the presence of surfactant in phenolic rich solution, PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 membrane was able to exhibit relative flux above 0.8. The significant changes on the hydrophobicity and chemical properties of PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 membrane due to fouling were not observed after 50 h of static adsorption test.

Owing to the increasing demand for harvesting energy from environmental vibration for use in self-powered electronic applications, cantilever-based vibration energy harvesting has attracted considerable interest from various parties and has become one of the most common approaches to converting redundant mechanical energy into electrical energy. As the output voltage produced from a piezoelectric material depends largely on the geometric shape and the size of the beam, there is a need to model and compare the performance of cantilever beams of differing *** paper presents the study of strain distribution in various shapes of cantilever beams, including a convex and concave edge profile elliptical beam that have not yet been discussed in any prior literature. both analytical and finite-element models are derived and the resultant strain distributions in the beam are computed based on a MATLAb solver and ANsYs finite-element analysis tools. An optimum geometry for a vibration-based energy harvesting system is ***, experimental results comparing the power density for triangular and rectangular piezoelectric beams are also presented to validate the findings of the study, and the claim, as suggested in the literature, is verified.

The present study was designed to investigate the mechanisms by which P2X7 receptors(P2X7Rs)mediate the activation of vasopressinergic neurons thereby increasing sympathetic hyperactivity in the paraventricular nucleus(PVN) of the hypothalamus of rats with acute myocardial ischemia(AMI). The left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery was ligated to induce AMI in rats. The rats were pretreated with bbG(brilliant blue G, a P2X7R antagonist), nelivaptan(a vasopressin V1b receptor antagonist), or diphenyleneiodonium(DPI) [an nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate(NADPH)oxidase inhibitor]. Hemodynamic parameters of the heart were monitored. Myocardial injury and cardiomyocyte apoptosis were assessed. In the PVN of AMI rats, P2X7R mediated microglial activation, while reactive oxygen species(ROs) and NADPH oxidase 2(NOX2) were higher than in the sham group. Intraperitoneal injection of bbG effectively reduced ROs production and vasopressin expression in the PVN of AMI rats. Moreover, both bbG and DPI pretreatment effectively reduced sympathetic hyperactivity and ameliorated AMI injury, as represented by reduced inflammation and apoptosis of ***, microinjection of nelivaptan into the PVN improved cardiac function and reduced the norepinephrine(AE) levels in AMI rats. Collectively, the results suggest that, within the PVN of AMI rats, P2X7R upregulation mediates microglial activation and the overproduction of ROs, which in turn activates vasopressinergic neuron V1b receptors and sympathetic hyperactivity, hence aggravating myocardial injury in the AMI setting.

The effect of non-linear convection in a laminar three-dimensional Oldroyd-b fluid flow is addressed. The heat transfer phenomenon is explored by considering the non-linear thermal radiation and heat generation/absorption. The boundary layer as- sumptions are taken into account to govern the mathematical model of the flow analy- sis. some suitable similarity variables are introduced to transform the partial differen- tial equations into ordinary differential systems. fifth-order techniques with the shooting method The Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg fourth- and are used to obtain the solutions of the dimensionless velocities and temperature. The effects of various physical parameters on the fluid velocities and temperature are plotted and examined. A comparison with the exact and homotopy perturbation solutions is made for the viscous fluid case, and an excellent match is noted. The numerical values of the wall shear stresses and the heat transfer rate at the wall are tabulated and investigated. The enhancement in the values of the Deborah number shows a reverse behavior on the liquid velocities. The results show that the temperature and the thermal boundary layer are reduced when the non- linear convection parameter increases. The values of the Nusselt number are higher in the non-linear radiation situation than those in the linear radiation situation.

The preparation and some mechanical, thermal and magnetic properties of the as cast bulk composite ***4 （M=Nb, Mo） alloys obtained by suction casting are presented and discussed. The microstructrural results showed the existence of a crystalline a-Fe（si） phase embedded in a glassy matrix. The values of microhardness （/Iv） and yield strength （ay） for the Nb-containing alloy are exceptionally high, i.e. （12.65~0.3） GPa and （4.22~0.10） GPa, respectively. The saturation polarization values are found to be as high as 1.24 T for both composite ~11oys. It is thought that the interplay between the secondary crystalline phases and amorphous matrix could be responsible for the mechanical and magnetic behaviour of these alloys.

In order to improve and stabilize the magnetic properties of nanocomposite Nd2Fe14b/α-Fe magnetic alloys by a compositional adjustment, small amount of Dy and/or Co was added to Nd9Fe84b7 alloys. DTA analysis on the amorphous of the alloys took place as the soft magnetic phases were crystallized, and then the hard magnetic Nd2Fe14b was precipitated from them. While α-Fe and a metastable 1:7 (TbCu7-type) phase were formed simultaneously in Dy and Co-free alloys, they were crystallized separately at different temperatures after Dy or Co was added. This phase separation occurred more clearly in the Dy-treated alloys and the other soft magnetic phase Fe3b was also stabilized by Dy and/or Co. The 1: 7 phase that was stabilized by Dy and/or Co was not eliminated at 700 ℃, decreasing magnetic properties of the alloys. It was eventually disappeared above 725 ℃, but Fe3b was not eliminated even at 750 ℃ when Dy was added more than 0.5 at% or Co was added more than 2.0 at%. Amount of Nd2Fe14b in the alloys tended to increase as Dy addition increased,whereas Co addition did not lead to any appreciable change in the ratio of α-Fe and Nd2Fe14b. Moreover, Dy addition apparently increased coercivity of an alloy while Co addition had a beneficial effect on remanence. The grains in the Dytreated alloys were usually finer than those in the Co-treated alloys. The grain size of both α-Fe and Nd2Fe14b in the alloys exhibiting mr ≥ 0.72 was in the range of 20 ～ 40 nm or even larger 50 nm, which is larger than the theoretical optimum size ( ～ 10 nm). Typical magnetic properties obtained from a Nd7.5Dy1.5Fe82.5Co1.5b7 alloy annealed for 12 min at 725 ℃were iHc=4.85 kOe, br= 11.32 kG, (bH)max = 15.73 MGOe, and mr=0.73.
