Introduction: The birth of a baby is a moment of joy and celebration. However, the neonatal period is a very delicate phase of life. Neonatal mortality rates remain high in low-income countries. In Guinea, after 20 years, this rate has fallen from 34.2% in 1998 to 32% in 2018. Objective: To identify the main risk factors for neonatal mortality. Methods: This was an observational, analytical case-control study, lasting 6 months from January 1 to June 30, 2019, conducted at the Institut de Nutrition et de la Santé de l’Enfant (INSE) at Donka National Hospital. Results: We collected 242 cases and 242 controls, i.e. a total of 484 records. 748 patients were registered, with 32.35% deaths. 82.86% of deaths occurred in the early neonatal period. Statistical analysis revealed the main risk factors: prematurity (RQ 7.39 95% CI 3.27 - 16.61 p = 0.0000003), hypothermia (RQ 2.29 95% CI 1.51 - 3.46 p = 0.0001), acute fetal distress (RQ 2.13 95% CI 1.33 - 3.43 p = 0.0016), low birth weight (QR 1.91 95% CI 1.12 - 3.24 p = 0.016), home birth (QR 3.26 95% CI 1.25 - 8.46 p = 0.015). Conclusion: Neonatal mortality is a health problem in the INSE neonatology department. To reduce the mortality rate in this referral facility, it is essential to equip it and provide ongoing training for staff.

blood transfusion saves lives and reduces morbidity and mortality for a large number of diseases and clinical conditions, but it is not without danger. The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of HIV and hepatitis b in blood donors received at the regional blood Transfusion Centre of N’Zérékoré (Guinea). This was a 5-year retrospective analytical study. We included records of blood donors aged 18 to 60 years admitted to the N’Zérékoré Regional blood Transfusion Centre for blood donation from January 2016 to December 2020. We performed a descriptive analysis followed by Chi-2 or Fish-er-exact tests and the Student or Wilcoxon test, followed by multivariate logistic regression. In this study, donor age ranged from 18 - 60 years, with a pre-dominance of donors aged 25 - 34 (44.2%). Male donors were the most represented in our study (79.0% versus 21.0% female). More than half of the donors were blood group O (55.6%). We observed a seroprevalence of 3.6% for HIV, 13.4% for HbsAg and 0.2% for co-infection. In our series, age 25 - 34 (OR = 1.89 and P = 0.001) and 35 - 44 for HIV (OR = 2.01 and P = 0.001), HbsAgserostatus (OR = 3.04 and P = 0.001) and blood donation history (OR of 3.04 and P = 0.001) were factors associated with HIV positivity (P blood donation history (OR = 0.01 and P = 0.001) were factors associated with HbsAgseropositivity. We reported a high prevalence of HIV and HbsAg. Sex, serological status and blood donation history were associated factors.

Introduction: Orthostatic Hypotension (OH) is a frequent situation during consultation in hypertensive patients. The prevalence in the general population increases with age and it is recommended to systematically search for it in patients with multiple comorbidities. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of orthostatic hypotension;describe their socio- demographic profile, the various clinical and paraclinical aspects and the predisposing factors of orthostatic hypotension in treated hypertensives, controlled or not. Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study, from January 2 to June 30, 2022 in the cardiology department of the Ignace Deen National Hospital. Included in this study were all patients who presented with orthostatic hypotension under antihypertensive treatment, regardless of age and sex, and who agreed to participate in the study. The non-inclusion criteria were hypertensive patients without OH and those who had not agreed to participate in the study. Each patient had blood pressure and heart rate measured in the supine position at room temperature and with an empty bladder. Then the measurement is taken again three (3) minutes after the switch to orthostatism. We retained the diagnosis of OH if the SbP drops by at least 20 mmHg and/or the PAD by at least 10 mmHg three (3) min after the transition to orthostatism. Our data obtained were analyzed in the Epi-info 7.4.0 software. Results: During our study period, we investigated 385 presented with OH, 12.2%. The mean age of the patients was 60.83 years ± 10.01 years and hypertensive patients, 47 of whom the M/F sex ratio was 0.81. In our study, blood pressure was not controlled in 36.2% of our patients with a predominance of grade 3 hypertension, a rate of 55.32%. Renal failure, anemia, heart failure and stroke were the main comorbidities associated with the occurrence of HO. The objective of this study was to develop allometric models for estimating the biomass of Sclerocarya birrea (***) Hoscht and boscia senegalensis (Pers.) Lam. ex Poir. The inventory of these ligneous was carried out at Widou Thiengoly (North of Senegal). The sample consists of 43 individuals of boscia senegalensis and 15 individuals of Sclerocarya birrea. The selected individuals were dendrometrically characterized before being cut, compartmentalized (trunk, branches, and twigs) and weighed entirely. Simple regression tests were performed to examine the most explanatory dendrometric parameter (x) for biomass (y) according to two types of models: the linear model (y = ax + b) and the polynomial model of degrees 2 (y = ax2 + bx + c). The criteria for selection and validity of the models are based firstly on the tests of normality, nullity, heterogeneity and autocorrelation of the residues. The results showed that the most explanatory dendrometric parameter of the biomass was the crown surface for boscia senegalensis and the 1.30 m diameter for Sclerocarya birrea of all the tests performed, the second-order Polynomial model is the best predictor of above ground biomass for these two species. Thus, the allometric models established to predict the biomass of these two species are: y = 0.0023x2 + 0.4851x - 0.0519 for boscia senegalensis and y = 0.35x2 + 10.35x - 12.90 for S. birrea;with very significant correlation coefficients (R2) of 0.85 and 0.94 respectively. These results can be used for a sequestered carbon assessment study and will play a role in monitoring the carbon market in Africa.

When blood pressure values remain above the target in a hypertensive patient treated concomitantly with three anti-hypertensive drugs including a diuretic, maximum well-tolerated doses, this is a resistant arterial hypertension. In this case, it is advisable to look for a secondary cause such as a drug intake that influencing the blood pressure or the presence of obstructive sleeping syndrome (OSAS). We report a clinical case of a patient with a high cardiovascular risk at the age of 50, hypertensive and diabetic, with dyslipidemia and obesity. He was on anti-hypertensive triple therapy at an optimal dose. Her diabetes was balanced with 6.4% glycated hemoglobin. Dyslipidemia has being treated. Despite healthy diet including a low sodium diet and weight loss, blood pres- sure target was not reached. With self-measurement, the mean arterial pressure was 180/110 mmHg and on ABPM it was 167/113 mmHg. The ventilatory polygraphy finds a severe OSA with an IAH = 56.6. Treatment with PCP (Con- tinuous positive pressure) allowed this patient to control blood pressure. The search for OSA should be systematic in face of resistant hypertension, in par- ticular in overweight or obese patients.

Introduction: Heart and kidney diseases are common among patients admitted to hospital and they coexist in a significant number of cases. The interactions between the cardiovascular system and the kidney have been known and described for many years and have led to the description of cardio-renal syndrome. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency;to describe the clinical, etiological and prognostic aspects of acute renal failure in patients hospitalized for chronic congestive heart failure. Method: This was a descriptive retrospective study from January 2, 2018 to December 31, 2022. Included in this study were all the complete records of patients hospitalized for chronic congestive heart failure with serum creatinine ≥120 μmol/I. We’re not included in this study, incomplete files, records of patients hospitalized for other pathologies, records of patients hospitalized for chronic congestive heart failure with normal renal function. Our study variables were qualitative and quantitative divided into clinical, paraclinical and prognostic data. Our data were analyzed using the EPI-info 7.***.2.6 software. Data entry and presentation were carried out using Word, Excel and PowerPoint from the 2016 Office Pack. Results: We collected 830 files of which 114 met our selection criteria, a frequency of 13.73%. The mean age of the patients was 47 ± 19 years. The F/M sex ratio was 1.23. The dominant etiologies were hypertension followed by diabetes with respectively 60.5% and 23.7%. Toxic factors including tobacco accounted for 7.9% of cases. Dyspnea accounted for 86.8%. Most of our patients were grade 3 or 36% based on systolic blood pressure on admission with an average of 164.16 ± 33.95 mmHg and an average diastolic blood pressure of 93.24 ± 20.40 mmHg. biologically, the serum creatinine revealed a high frequency of 201 - 400 μmol/l (33% of cases) with an average value of 586.49 ± 631.44 μmol/l with the extremes 2.960 and 2448.68 μmol/I.
