The transient heat transfer behaviours in a packed bed have been studied using coupled computational fluid dynamics(CFD)and discrete element method(DEM).Intra-particle thermal diffusion,which is a crucial but rarely explored issue,is considered by introducing a one-dimensional diffusion equation in the DEM *** achieve a sufficiently long physical time of simulations,we further reduce the computational cost by applying periodic boundary condition to a small segment of the packed *** study demonstrates a shifting peak heat flow rate from the bottom to the top of the packed bed during the initial warming *** affirm that the influence of thermal diffusion within a particle is noteworthy only for particles exhibiting a high biot number(e.g.,bi=1.2).This insight enriches our understanding of heat transfer mechanisms in packed beds and their practical engineering applications.

Gas-solid fluidized beds have found extensive utilization in frontline manufacturing,in particular as low-velocity *** fluidization status,the bubbling or turbulent flow regime and the transition in between,determine the system performance in practical *** the convoluted hydrodynamics are quantitively evaluated through numerous data-processing methodologies,none of them alone can reflect all the critical information to identify the transition from the bubbling to the turbulent ***,this study was to exploit a coupling data processing methodology,in the combination of standard deviation,power spectrum density,probability density function,wavelet transform,and wavelet multiresolution method,to jointly explain the micro-flow structure at the regime transition from bubbling to turbulent *** transient differential pressure fluctuation was measured for the evaluation in a fluidized bed(0.267 m i.d.×2.5 m height)with FCC catalysts(d_(p)=65μm,ρ_(p)=1780kg/m^(3))at different superficial gas velocities(0.02–1.4 m/s).The results show that the onset of turbulent fluidization starts earlier in the top section of the bed than in the bottom *** wavelet decomposition displays that the fluctuation of differential pressure mainly concentrates on the sub-signals with an intermediate frequency *** sub-signals could be synthesized into three types of scales(micro-scale,meso-scale,and macro-scale),representing the multi-scale hydrodynamics in the fluidized *** micro-scale signal has the characteristic information of bubbling fluidization,and the characteristic information of turbulent fluidization is mainly represented by the meso-scale *** work provides a systematic comprehension of fluidization status assessment and serves as an impetus for more coupling analysis in this sector.

Salinity is a crucial property of water body and is essential for the restoration of paleoecology and ***,the theoretical method of application of elemental geochemical proxies to paleosalinity reconstruction is still ***,accurate determination and reconstruction of paleosalinity and its variation in an offshore lacustrine basin have been extremely challenging thus *** study presents detailed elemental geochemical investigations from the Zhanhua Sag in the southern bohai bay basin to reconstruct the salinity variation in the Paleogene Eocene Shahejie Formation(50.8-33.9 Ma).based on the variation of strontium barium ratio(Sr/ba)and boron gallium ratio(b/Ga),we determined three typical salinity types of water body:salty water(Sr/ba>0.5,b/Ga>6),brackish water(0.2bab/Gabab/Gabonate-sourced strontium(Sr).The salinity values following Couch’s paleosalinometer r anged from 3.1 to 11.9,reflecting the overall characteristics of oligohaline(0.5brackish *** proxies yielded similar trends in paleosalinity variation,demonstrating a clear trend of rising and then declining from 50.8 Ma to 33.9 *** considered that the b/Ga ratio had the highest reliability and resolution in determining the salinity types of water body in the study *** environmental factors causing paleosalinity variation were also thoroughly analysed based on the temporal relationship among the salinity types of watermasses,paleoclimate characteristics from pollen records,and marine transgression events from marine *** research established a model of paleoclimatic and eustatic mechanisms to explain paleosalinity variation,providing reasonable and integral driving forces for the salinity variation of all offshore lacustrine basins.

Implications of the Stellar Mass Density of High-z Massive Galaxies from JWST on Warm Dark Matter

A significant excess of the stellar mass density at high redshift has been discovered from the early data release of James Webb Space Telescope(JWST),and it may require a high star formation ***,this will lead to large number density of ionizing photons in the epoch of reionization(EoR),so that the reionization history will be changed,which can arise tension with the current EoR *** dark matter(WDM),via the free streaming effect,can suppress the formation of small-scale structure as well as low-mass *** provides an effective way to decrease the ionizing photons when considering a large star formation efficiency in high-z massive galaxies without altering the cosmic reionization *** the other hand,the constraints on the properties of WDM can be derived from the JWST *** this work,we study WDM as a possible solution to reconcile the JWST stellar mass density of high-z massive galaxies and reionization *** find that,the JWST high-z comoving cumulative stellar mass density alone has no significant preference for either CDM or WDM *** using the observational data of other stellar mass density measurements and reionization history,we obtain that the WDM particle mass with mw=0.51_(-0.12)^(+0.22) keV and star formation efficiency parameter f_(*)^(0)> 0.39 in 2σ confidence level can match both the JWST high-z comoving cumulative stellar mass density and the reionization history.

To evaluate the safety of the bulb tubular turbine,the dynamic hydraulic characteristics of a hydropower station system during the load rejection process are studied through numerical simulations and a prototype *** the developed model,a dynamic grid technology(DGT)controls the closure of the guide vane and the blade,whilst the moment balance equation and the user-defined function(UDF)provide the runner’s rotation *** 3-D transient simulation method can well predict the rotation speed and mass flow curves in the state of load *** simulation outcomes of the system performance are basically consistent with the measurement data of the *** observed,the runner is subjected to the reversely increased torque and axial force,the system is in a braking phase,and the maximum speed peaks at 144.6%of the rated ***,the internal flow of the runner is greatly affected by the closure of the guide vane,and the draft tube forms an eccentric spiral vortex *** breaks downstream,aggravating the instability of the draft ***,the transient characteristics span for the first five seconds,demonstrating the importance of establishing an efficient governing *** obtained results are useful for designing the turbine’s flow channel with a double regulating function and comprehending the turbine’s transient characteristics.

Cortical Organoid-on-a-Chip with Physiological Hypoxia for Investigating Tanshinone IIA-Induced Neural Differentiation

Cortical organoids represent cutting-edge models for mimic human brain development during the early and even middle stage of pregnancy, while they often fail to recreate the complex microenvironmental factors, such as physiological hypoxia. Herein, to recapitulate fetal brain development, we propose a novel cortical organoid-on-a-chip with physiological hypoxia and further explore the effects of tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) in neural differentiation. The microfluidic chip was designed with a micropillar array for the controlled and efficient generation of cortical organoids. With low oxygen, the generated cortical organoids could recapitulate key aspects of early-gestational human brain development. Compared to organoids in normoxic culturing condition, the promoted neurogenesis, synaptogenesis and neuronal maturation were observed in the present microsystem, suggesting the significance of physiological hypoxia in cortical development. based on this model, we have found that Chinese herbal drug Tan IIA could promote neural differentiation and maturation, indicating its potential therapeutic effects on neurodevelopmental disorders as well as congenital neuropsychiatric diseases. These results indicate that the proposed biomimetic cortical organoid-on-a-chip model with physiological hypoxia can offer a promising platform to simulate prenatal environment, explore brain development, and screen natural neuroactive components.
