The development and adoption of conservation tillage systems on the Canadian Prairies

One of the major agricultural innovations on the Canadian Prairies over the last 40 years has been the introduction of conservation tillage(CT).Conservation tillage-a system that includes minimum and zero tillage(ZT)-was introduced as an alternative to traditional(conventional)tillage(TT)to control soil degradation and to promote agricultural *** development and adoption of CT systems involved pioneer farmers,engineers,scientists,and farmer *** the end of the 1970s,CT started to take shape on the Prairies,but for a number of economic,technical,political and social reasons,the adoption of CT did not occur on any major scale before the ***,more than 75%of the Prairie’s cropland is under some form of CT with more than 50%under *** this paper,the factors behind the development and adoption of conservation tillage technology on the Prairies in the period between 1930 and 2011 are ***,some of the benefits of the adoption of CT on the Prairies are *** data show that CT and ZT became profitable for the majority of farmers during and after the 1990s,and that the increased use of CT contributed to the dramatic decrease in the area under summerfallow and to the increase in the area sown to canola and pulse *** changes contributed to the reduction of all forms of land degradation and to decreases in agricultural greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions.

The Origin of the Giant Hall Effect in Metal-Insulator Composites

Near the metal-insulator transition, the Hall coefficient R of metal-insulator composites (M-I composite) can be up to 104 times larger than that in the pure metal called Giant Hall effect. Applying the physical model for alloys with phase separation developed in [1] [2], we conclude that the Giant Hall effect is caused by an electron transfer away from the metallic phase to the insulating phase occupying surface states. These surface states are the reason for the granular structure typical for M-I composites. This electron transfer can be described by [1] [2], provided that long-range diffusion does not happen during film production (n is the electron density in the phase A. ub>A b>and ub>bb> are the volume fractions of the phase A (metallic phase) and phase b (insulator phase). β is a measure for the average potential difference between the phases A and b). A formula for calculation of R of composites is derived and applied to experimental data of granular Cub>1-yb>(SiOb>2b>)b>yb> and Nib>1-yb>(SiOb>2b>)b>yb> films.

从快速生长的甘蓝型油菜的小孢子培养中共获得23个再生植株。经倍性鉴定,其中自发加倍成二倍体的有10株,单倍体13株。单倍体再用秋水仙碱处理后获得DH系,所得材料对油菜功能基因组学的研究可能有一定的价值。

＜正＞The island of Nisyros （Greece） is a Quaternary volcano located at the eastern end of the Hellenic arc. The magmas are typical calc-alkaline. Volcanic activity started with submarine basaltic andesites followed by subaerial lavas and pyroclastics ranging in composition from basaltic andesites to rhyolites （pre-caldera units）. 目的　探讨超低出生体重 (ELbW )儿减少红细胞输注的可能性。方法　对 1989～ 1997年 9年间 2 5 6例超低出生体重儿的红细胞输注进行临床分析。在此期间红细胞输注指征进行了 3次制订 ,对检验样本的采血量进行了严格的控制 ,部分病例应用了重组人促红细胞生成素治疗。结果　 1994年以后有 1/ 4的ELbW儿不需要输注红细胞 ,1989～ 1997年平均输血次数由 7次降至 2 7次 (P bW儿更加不成熟 ,平均胎龄由 2 7 4周减至 2 6 0周 ,平均出生体重由 833g降至 741g。存活率仍达 78% ,住院时间没有延长 ,严重并发症如视网膜病、动脉导管未闭、脑室出血的发生率没有增加。结论　制订严格的红细胞输注指征有助于减少输血次数和接受供血者人数。

采用农杆菌介导法,以下胚轴为转化受体,将溶血性磷脂酸酰基转移酶(LPAAT)和酮脂酰辅酶A合成酶(KCS)基因导入2种不同基因型(“Drakkar”和“Maplus”)的甘蓝型油菜,共获得247株再生植株,其再生频率分别为15.1%和2.0%。PCR检测和Southern杂交分析证实,外源基因已整合到油菜基因组中,转化频率分别为3.6%和0.7%。种子中芥酸含量因外源基因的导入使零芥酸油菜“Drakkar”提高到10.5%,高芥酸品种“Maplus”提高了5.0%,最高达62.8%。
