Sediment Quality Assessment on bartlett Pond in Laredo, Southern Texas, USA

This study evaluates the dynamics of trace metals impacts on the ecosystems of the bartlett Pond, a small shallow wetland pond located in Laredo, Texas by analyzing sediment samples taken from four quadrants of the pond. The concentrations of trace elements in sediment samples are highest for iron (Fe), followed by chromium (Cr), then lead (Pb), with lower concentration of antimony (Sb), cobalt (Co), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and the lowest concentration being thallium (Tl) within bartlett Pond. The sediment quality of the pond is acceptable for organisms and the environment as trace element concentrations (e.g. As, Cd, Cr, and Pb) are within the probable effect concentration (PEC) of National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) guidelines although the PEC values for Co, Fe, Sb and Tl are not given. bivariate and multivariate correlation analysis shows that most trace elements exhibit a strong positive correlation among them indicating the same anthropogenic sources and biogeochemical processes control these trace elements concentrations within the pond. We provided a comprehensive snapshot of trace element concentrations in sediments through descriptive analysis, laying the foundation for future environmental risk assessments. Correlation analysis of eight trace elements helped identify relationships, offering insights into pollution sources and potential health impacts. Additionally, univariate and multivariate predictive analyses generated numerous models, extending beyond the interpretation of partial and full regression coefficients. We also included graphical analyses of trace element variations, which are critical for understanding environmental processes and geochemical patterns. These findings advance our understanding about trace metals dynamics in sediments and may be a valuable reference for ecosystems and environmental management of different landscapes.

【目的】缺水是影响干旱区葡萄种植的主要因素之一,因此有必要筛选抗旱鲜食葡萄品种和葡萄抗旱的相关指标。【方法】以丽红宝、晶红宝、无核翠宝等11个鲜食葡萄品种幼苗为材料,进行自然干旱处理,测定其电导率、叶绿素含量和叶绿素荧光参数,利用相关性分析、主成分分析、聚类分析和灰色关联度分析相结合的方法,综合评价幼苗抗旱性差异并筛选相关指标。【结果】干旱胁迫对植株相对电导率、叶绿素含量和叶绿素荧光参数均有显著影响。相关性分析表明,Rfd与NPQ,F_(m)与Fp、F_(v)、F_(v)/F_(m),Fp与F_(v)、F_(v)/F_(m),F_(v)与F_(v)/F_(m),叶绿素a含量与总叶绿素含量呈极显著正相关(p秋红宝>茉莉香>巨茉莉>无核白>晶红宝>火焰无核>晚黑宝>无核翠宝>克瑞森无核>早霞玫瑰。聚类分析将11个葡萄品种分为3个抗旱级别,第1类是高抗旱品种(秋红宝和丽红宝);第2类是中抗旱品种(晶红宝、无核白、巨茉莉和茉莉香);第3类是低抗旱品种(克瑞森无核、晚黑宝、早霞玫瑰、无核翠宝和火焰无核)。灰色关联度分析显示叶绿素a含量、叶绿素b含量、类胡萝卜素含量、总光合色素含量、根系相对电导率和NPQ 6个指标与葡萄幼苗抗旱性密切相关。【结论】秋红宝和丽红宝抗旱性较强,适合在干旱及半干旱地区推广种植。叶片的光合色素含量、根系相对电导率和NPQ可作为评价葡萄抗旱性的可靠指标。

We report on commissioning experiments at the high-energy,high-temperature(HHT)target area at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH,Darmstadt,Germany,combining for the first time intense pulses of heavy ions from the SIS18 synchrotron with high-energy laser pulses from the PHELIX laser *** demonstrate the use of X-ray diagnostic techniques based on intense laserdriven X-ray sources,which will allow probing of large samples volumetrically heated by the intense heavy-ion beams.A new target chamber as well as optical diagnostics for ion-beam characterization and fast pyrometric temperature measurements complement the experimental *** platform is designed for experiments at the future Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Europe GmbH(FAIR),where unprecedented ion-beam intensities will enable the generation of millimeter-sized samples under high-energy-density conditions.

The Role and Heterogeneity of Visual Pollution on the Quality of Urban Landscape Using GIS;Case Study: Historical Garden in City of Maraqeh

The urban landscape heterogeneity has been influenced by the visual, unpleasant and unacceptable face of which there is no charm in it. The present study is formed according to visual pollution and its impact on the appearance and vitality of a city. Preliminary studies and theoretical studies led to the hypothesis with the following themes: 1) There is relationship between the pollution, heterogeneity and visual disturbances urban landscape and urban vitality;2) Improving the quality, aesthetics and identity of public spaces will increase urban vitality. Therefore, the design process within the theoretical principles, concepts, television and urban landscape, urban art, visual pollution aspects (color, light, and visual symbol) and the quality of urban vitality and explain causal relationships, analytical framework developed and more samples case (garden historic town of Maraqeh1) and the area under study were selected using GIS. After designing the questionnaire to evaluate the objectives, assumptions and questions of research and its analysis, the results indicate that the relationship between visual pollution and urban vitalitys, as well as proving hypotheses and vitality after the final analysis, model was introduced based on the components of comfort visual editing and proposed at three levels: micro, middle and macro for objectives, strategies and policies to regulate visual pollution and improve the aesthetic quality of the environment and the promotion of vitality.

bACKGROUND Holoprosencephaly(HPE)is a congenital malformation with various degrees of incomplete separation of the cerebral hemispheres due to differentiation disorders of the *** HPE with diabetes insipidus due to associated pituitary dysfunction has been reported,HPE with the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion(SIADH)is very ***,a vasopressin V2 receptor antagonist,is effective in adults with ***,there is no report of its efficacy in infants with *** purpose of this report is to demonstrate that tolvaptan is effective for SIADH in infants and that administration of tolvaptan eliminates the need for restriction of water intake and sodium *** SUMMARY A 2414-g female infant was born at 38 wk by normal vaginal *** anomalies and head magnetic resonance imaging indicated semilobar *** birth,she had hyponatremia due to SIADH and was treated using water and sodium ***,she developed an exaggerated response to the fluid restrictions,resulting in large fluctuations in serum sodium *** administration of tolvaptan improved the fluctuations in serum sodium levels without the need for adjustment of water or sodium *** sodium was maintained within the normal range after discontinuation of tolvaptan at 80 d of *** were no side effects,such as hypernatremia or liver dysfunction,during the administration of *** This is the first report on the safety and efficacy of tolvaptan in an infant with SIADH associated with HPE.

background: Malnutrition, a serious public health concern, is influenced by various factors. Objective: The study aims to explore malnutrition issues among infants under five years old in Guéra Province. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional design and a two-stage cluster sampling method to select participants. The study population was infants aged between 0 - 24 months. Data collection was done between June 2023 and September 2024;it included anthropometric measurements, blood analyses, and interviews. Anthropometric parameters were calculated using ENA for SMART software. Statistical analyses were performed by R Studio to investigate associations between different characteristics, using logistic regression models to identify risk factors. A p-value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The study included 377 infants in eight villages in Guéra Province, Chad. The sample was predominantly girls (55.3%), with a median age of 16 months. Most infants (94%) were mixed-fed, and only 6% were exclusively breastfed. We found that 7.3% of children were globally malnourished, with higher rates in boys 9.6%. A significant disparity existed between boys and girls in global acute malnutrition (GAM) rates, with boys having a higher prevalence of 17.9%. A substantial proportion of Infants were underweight, with males 27.4%. Stunting was prevalent 20.1%. Several factors were associated with malnutrition, including gender, feeding practices, infectious diseases, and socioeconomic factors. Diarrhea, malaria, limited access to drinking water, and early diet diversification were significantly associated with malnutrition. Conclusion: Targeted interventions are necessary to address these issues and improve the nutritional status of children in the Guéra province.

Water contamination in areas of formal and informal polymetallic mining is a growing concern in the Peruvian highlands. At the same time, there are agricultural activities that use contaminated water from these rivers for irrigation. This could contaminate the agricultural products grown on these lands, such as potatoes. It is, therefore, necessary and a priority to determine the adsorption characteristics of these derivatives and to be able to use these natural adsorbents to decontaminate water contaminated with heavy metals.

以秸秆纤维为原料,经氯化胆碱/尿素-微生物联合预处理之后,依次通过填充不同添加量的杨木纤维、调控湿强剂组合种类以及利用自主研发的纳米木质素聚合物作表面涂层,制备改性秸秆纤维基地膜(MSFM),分析改性处理对可降解秸秆纤维基地膜力学性能、韧性、疏水性、降解性及水稻生长等的影响。研究结果表明:杨木纤维的填充可有效降低细小秸秆纤维流失率;优选杨木纤维与秸秆纤维质量比为4∶6,湿强剂硫酸铝(AS)添加量1.5%、阳离子分散松香胶(CDR)1.5%,纳米木质素聚合物表层涂布量2~2.5 g/m^(2)时,获得的改性秸秆纤维基地膜(MSFM)抗张指数为30.33 N·m/g、湿抗张指数9.23 N·m/g、撕裂指数5.16 mN·m^(2)/g、耐破指数2.36 kPa·m^(2)/g,应变由0.48%提高到1.13%,增幅达135.42%,且表现出优异的疏水性和湿稳定性。地膜降解试验结果表明:第9周时MSFM失重率达62%,同时盆栽试验期杂草抑制率达81.20%,且具有良好的土壤保温及水稻促生作用。生物可降解秸秆纤维地膜能够从源头减少污染物和化石资源投入,在农田土壤覆盖应用领域前景广阔。

Knotting ligands to control metal coordination geometry

Zinc is a metal of particular importance for life [1]. It is the most abundant transition metal in biological systems after iron and contributes both structural and catalytic roles to many cellular processes. The properties of ZnⅡ, unlike those of any other first-row transition metal ions, explain its biological relevance. Due to its filled d-shell orbitals, ZnⅡis redox-stable, has a ligand-field energy stabilization of zero and, consequently, no typical coordination number and geometry.
