Neuromuscular electrical stimulation and testosterone did not influence heterotopic ossification size after spinal cor injury: A case series

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation(NMES) and testosterone replacement therapy(TRT) are effective rehabilitation strategies to attenuate muscle atrophy and evoke hypertrophy in persons with spinal cord injury(SCI). However both interventions might increase heterotopic ossification(HO) size in SCI patients. We present the results of two men with chronic traumatic motor complete SCI who also had pre-existing HO and participated in a study investigating the effects of TRT or TRT plus NMES resistance training(RT) on body composition. The 49-year-old male, Subject A, has unilateral HO in his right thigh. The 31-year-old male, Subject b, has bilateral HO in both thighs. both participants wore transdermal testosterone patches(4-6 mg/d) daily for 16 wk. Subject A also underwent progressive NMES-RT twice weekly for 16 wk. Magnetic resonance imaging scans were acquired prior to and post intervention. Cross-sectional areas(CSA) of thewhole thigh and knee extensor skeletal muscles, femoral bone, and HO were measured. In Subject A(NMES-RT + TRT), the whole thigh skeletal muscle CSA increased by 10%, the knee extensor CSA increased by 17%, and the HO + femoral bone CSA did not change. In Subject b(TRT), the whole thigh skeletal muscle CSA increased by 13% in the right thigh and 6% in the left thigh. The knee extensor CSA increased by 7% in the right thigh and did not change in the left thigh. The femoral bone and HO CSAs in both thighs did not change. both the TRT and NMES-RT + TRT protocols evoked muscle hypertrophy without stimulating the growth of preexisting HO.

Machining is a mechanical process where excess material from a work is removed to produce a product. At the moment different ferrous, non-ferrous materials and industrial blue wax have been used for prototype models. However such materials is very expensive. Hence an attempt is made to substitute these materials by the palm oil based bio-wax produced in Malaysia. In this research, the authors will analyze and investigate whether there is a possibility to use the palm oil based bio-wax material to substitute with the petroleum based industrial-wax. Experimental analyses are carried out to investigate the capability and the strength of the palm oil based bio-wax material. The matrix blends were prepared of fatty acids from oleo-chemicals, palm oil wax, natural ash fibre and low linear density polyethylene (LLDPE) by stirring and melt-mixing. Sample blends are machined with lathe machining process. The sample blends showed there was no built edge formation and good smooth surface production.`

The Role of TiO2 Anatase Nano-Filler to Enhance the Physical and Electrochemical Properties of PVA-based Polymer Electrolyte for Magnesium battery Applications

The magnesium conducting solid-state polymer electrolyte PE comprising hybrid of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and magnesium bromide Mgbr 2, phosphomolbidic acid (PMA) H 3 PMo 12 O 40, and tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (TEGDME) as plasticizer and TiO 2 anatase as a nano-filler is prepared at various compositions by solution cast technique. The interactions between the filler and PE chains are studied by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and impedance spectroscopy. Composition of PE is optimized, and maximum conductivity is obtained at 6 wt.% TiO 2 anatase. Filler seems to increase the number of free magnesium cations by de-coordinating the bond between magnesium cations and matrix scheme. The estimated value of Mg + ion transference number is carried out by the combination of complex impedance and D. C. polarization methods and is found to be 0.52 for the highest conducting film. A solid state battery based on the above polymer electrolyte with a configuration Mg|PE|TiO 2 has exhibited a discharge capacity > 8.5 mAh/gm. The discharge characteristics are found to be satisfactory as a laboratory cell.

Pasteurella species is considered the principal pathogen of the respiratory *** haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida were investigated and typed from nasal swabs and tissues taken from sheep,goat and ***,41 lung and 121 nasal swabs samples were collected from animals with respiratory diseases during 2015 to 2017 in six different regions in *** first,a screening of Pasteurella species using the real time PCR(RT-PCR)was carried out,then all isolated strains on agar blood were confirmed by PCR gel based assay specific for *** and *** was evaluated in mice and histopathological examination was done on some of lung *** results revealed that 34 samples of which 28(55%)from nasal swabs and six(38%)from lungs were positive for *** and nine samples of which seven(14%)from nasal swabs and two(13%)from lungs were positive on *** serogroup ***-two percent(72%)isolates were highly pathogenic to mice,which is in accordance with the results obtained by histopathology *** is the first report for widespread infections of Pasteurella(***&***)in ruminants in ***,measures including development of vaccines are highly required to mitigate the impact of the bacteria in animals.

In 2019,an oil spill in brazil,of unknown origin,severely impacted coastal environs with the worst environmental disaster ever recorded in any tropical coastal region globally severely damaging South Pirangi Reef area in the state of Rio Grande do Norte(RN).Here we discuss acute and chronic impacts including chemical contamination and economic consequences all over the world and show some evidence of the oil spill in this biodiverse ***,the lapse between the moment of the disastei;and the action to manage it,was hampered by a political agenda coinciding with local and global tragedies that redirected public *** almost 2 years have passed still without the offending party identification or culpability;and poor communities may continue to absorb its deleterious impacts for decades without consideration or *** disaster occurred during the brazilian government's current issues involving extensive environmental mismanagement,resulting in a slow response from an inept *** is with urgent necessity to spotlight this tragedy in this unique and sensitive reef habitat experiencing the ongoing damaging effects that include socio-economic losses not yet addressed.

background/Purpose: Gastroesophageal reflux is common in children with severe neurological impairment. Fundoplication may produce symptomatic improvement but has a high failure rate. Esophagogastric dissociation (EGD) is an alternative procedure for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux. The aim of this study is to evaluate the results of EGD in our institution and compare them with a neurologically matched group of children who had Nissen fundoplication. Methods: Twenty consecutive patients who had EGD were retrospectively evaluated and the results were compared with a neurologically matched group of 20 consecutive patients who had Nissen fundoplication. Results: Twenty patients had EGD, 17 as a primary procedure. There was no operative mortality but 5 have died of other causes. Resolution of reflux-associated symptoms occurred in all patients. Of the 15 survivors, 5 remain on antireflux medication. Twenty patients had fundoplication. There was no operative mortality, but 8 patients have died of other causes. Failure occurred in 5 patients necessitating further surgery. Of the 10 unreoperated survivors, 6 remain on antireflux medication. Conclusions: Esophagogastric dissociation is an effective antireflux procedure when compared with fundoplication. It has a lower failure rate. We recommend EGD as a primary procedure in selected children with severe neurological impairment.

Automatic Analysis Reporting for Hydro-Chemical Data Using Updated DurovPwin Program

Graphical representation of groundwater major dissolved constituents greatly help researchers in understanding the hydro-chemical evolution, grouping and areal distribution. Durov diagram is one of the most widely used technique but it requires a lot of tedious calculations. The DurovPlot program, which is used to plot the expanded Durov diagram as a graphical representation of groundwater major dissolved constituents is working on Disk Operating System (DOS) environment. Therefore, the need of a new program working under windows is a must. The program termed as DurovPwinis developed using Microsoft visual studio 2010. The DurovPwin program not only calculates the Durov coordinates and plot it, but also plots the total dissolved solids (TDS) on logarithmic scale and the measure of the activity of hydrogen ion (pH) of the given samples. The updated DurovPwin adds many features such as interface with Microsoft Office package (Word and Excel) to read the input chemical elements and automatically write result interpretation report. The user facility to group wells based on data features is added and the selection of the electric balance tolerance (10% as default) value is given. Another feature of the modified DurovPwinis has the ability to do useful X-Y plot for different hydro-chemical parameters to assist in data interpretation. The sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) is also calculated and written in the final report. Also, in the present study, the usability of the new version of DurovPwin program has been tested on the chemical data from 59 groundwater samples collected from Al-Jawf area, Saudi Arabia. The collected water samples were mainly from the Secondary-Tertiary-Quaternary (STQ) aquifer and some from Tawil and Jaufaquifers. The grouping of the major ions in the three aquifers have been displayed and presented using the DurovPwin program. The TDS values of Tawil aquifer ranges from 257.9 to 822.3 (2.4115 to 2.915) and for Jawf aquifer from 494.4 to 1,070 (2.6941 t
