The pr.diction of the oxidation r.te of elemental sulfur.（S^0） is a cr.tical step in sulfur.（S） fer.ilizer.str.tegy to supply plant-availab.e sulfur. An incub.tion exper.ment was conducted to deter.ine the r.te and amount of S^0 oxidation in r.lation to the contr.b.tion of Thiob.cillus spp. and aer.b.c heter.tr.phic S-oxidizing b.cter.a. After.84 days, 16.3% and 22.4% of the total S^0 applied to the soil wer. oxidized at 20 and 30 ℃, r.spectively. The oxidation of So pr.ved to b. a two-step pr.cess with a r.pid oxidation dur.ng the fir.t 28 days and a slow oxidation fr.m then on. The highest oxidation r.te of 12.8 μg S cm ^-2 d^-1 was measur.d dur.ng the fir.t two weeks at 30 ℃. At 20 ℃ the highest oxidation r.te of 10.2 μg S cm^-2 d^-1 was ob.ained fr.m two to four.weeks after.star. of the exper.ment. On an aver.ge the soil pH declined b. 3.6 and 4.0 units after.two weeks of exper.ment. At the same time the electr.c conductivity incr.ased nine times. With the oxidation of S^0 the population of Thiob.cillus spp. and aer.b.c heter.tr.phic S-oxidizing b.cter.a incr.ased. The cor.esponding values for.Thiob.cillus spp. and aer.b.c heter.tr.phic S-oxidizing b.cter.a incr.ased fr.m 2.9 × 10^5 and 1.4 × 10^5 g^-1 soil at the star. of the exper.ment to 4 × 10^8 and 5.6 × 10^8 g^-1 soil 14 days after.S^0 application, r.spectively. No Thiob.cillus spp. was pr.sent eight weeks after.S^0 application. The r.sults suggested that oxidation of r.sidual S^0 completely r.lied oll aer.b.c heter.tr.phic S-oxidizing b.cter.a.

Solvent extr.ction is an impor.ant pr.cess in the nuclear.fuel cycle. Tr.b.tyl phosphate(Tb.) diluted with dodecane is commonly used as a solvent for.extr.cting heavy metals fr.m nitr.c acid medium. Studies on hydr.dynamics of a single dr.p, which is the smallest mass tr.nsfer.entity, ar. r.quir.d for.b.tter.under.tanding of the complex mass tr.nsfer.and phase separ.tion phenomena that occur.in extr.ction equipment. In this study, dr.p for.ation at nozzles is studied using 30% Tb.-dodecane as the disper.ed phase and dilute nitr.c acid as the quiescent continuous phase. Exper.ments ar. car.ied out to deter.ine the dr.p diameter. jetting velocity, dr.p detachment height and dr.p detachment time for.var.ous disper.ed phase velocities, nozzle diameter.(1.91, 3.04, and 4.88 mm), and nitr.c acid concentr.tions(0.01, 1, 3 N). Dr.p for.ation is captur.d using high-speed imaging, which enab.es quantification of dr.p size, onset of jetting, dr.p detachment height, and dr.p detachment time. Exper.mental data ar. used to pr.pose cor.elations for.pr.dicting dr.p diameter.and minimum jetting velocity. The cor.elations ar. found to b. ver. accur.te with aver.ge ab.olute r.lative er.or. b.ing 5.23 and 2.97%, r.spectively.

The pr.sent study ar.a is a par. of the middle Ganga plain, known as Son-Kar.mnasa inter.luve, in India. Alter.ative land use systems and the integr.tion of livestock enter.r.ses with the agr.cultur.l system have b.en suggested for.land r.sour.es management. Legumes, with their.unique ab.lity to fix atmo- spher.c nitr.gen, play a vital r.le in ensur.ng futur. food secur.ty and mitigating the effects of climate change b.cause they use less fossil ener.y and pr.duce less gr.enhouse gases compar.d with N-fer.ilized systems. Gr.in legumes ar. second only to cer.al cr.ps as a sour.e of human and animal food, and they contr.b.te appr.ximately one thir. of the pr.tein consumed b. the human population. The pr.ductivityof seed cr.ps, such as gr.in legumes, is dependent on flower.ng. Despite the genetic var.ation and impor.ance of flower.ng in legume pr.duction, studies of the molecular.pathways that contr.l flower.ng in legumes ar. limited. r.cent advances in genomics have r.vealed that legume flower.ng pathways ar. diver.ent fr.m those of such model species as Ar.b.dopsis thaliana. The r.flection and r.fr.ction of a longitudinal wave at an inter.ace b.tween a per.ectly conducting nonviscous liquid half-space and a per.ectly conducting micr.str.tch elastic solid half-space ar. studied. The appr.pr.ate solutions to the gover.ing equations ar. ob.ained in b.th the half-spaces satisfying the r.quir.d b.undar. conditions at the inter.ace to ob.ain a system of five non-homogeneous equations in the amplitude r.tios of var.ous r.flected and tr.nsmitted waves. The system is solved b. a For.r.n pr.gr.m of the Gauss elimination method for.a par.icular.example of an inter.ace b.tween water.and aluminum-epoxy composite. Numer.cal values of the amplitude r.tios ar. computed for.a cer.ain r.nge of the incidence angle b.th in the pr.sence and ab.ence of an impr.ssed tr.nsver.e magnetic field. The effects of the pr.sence of the tr.nsver.e magnetic field on the amplitude r.tios of var.ous r.flected and tr.nsmitted waves ar. shown gr.phically.
