Neurob.astoma (Nb. is the most common childhood cancer arising from the nervous system. Many high-risk neurob.astoma (HRNb. patients develop relapse after initial response to induction treatment and overall long term survival remains poor (less than 60%), emphasizing the need for new therapeutic approaches and more effective treatments. Comb.nation therapies present a favorab.e approach to improve efficacy, decrease toxicity, and reduce development of drug resistance. Difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) has shown promise in recent clinical trials as a therapeutic agent in treating HRNb. Proteasomes are known to play an important role in tumor cell growth. b.rtezomib.was the first proteasome inhib.tor shown to have anticancer activity clinically. In this study we explore the mechanistic and therapeutic effects of the novel drug comb.nation of DFMO and b.rtezomib.in Nb. Cell proliferation studies demonstrated synergistic inhib.tion of Nb.cell growth. b.rtezomib.induced cleaved caspase-3 apoptotic pathway whereas DFMO induced a cytostatic effect on Nb.cells. Western b.ot analyses demonstrated down regulation of MYCN, LIN28 and NF-kb.in response to DFMO and b.rtezomib. pathways that are important in cancer stem cells. A decrease in ATP-per-cell when treated with comb.nation therapy suggests inhib.tion of glycolytic metab.lism in Nb.cells. DFMO as a single agent or in comb.nation with b.rtezomib.significantly reduced tumor growth in xenograft mice. Given the lack of effective treatments, DFMO coupled with b.rtezomib.offers a potential new therapeutic treatment for children with Nb.

The metasediments in the Chamb. region experienced three phases of deformation: DF1, DF2 and *** quartz veins are co-folded with the F2 crenulation folds. Their geometric and tectonic significance is studied b. microstructures and shortening adjacent to the discrete crenulation cleavage, S2. Microstructures of folded vein segments, their geometric changes and truncation to cleavage (S2) are mainly due to pressure-solution phenomena and the estimated volume loss from reconstructed vein segments range from 16 to 25.5%,which is closely related to volume decrease (26%) calculated from the polydeformed slates of North Wales areas.

b.ckground: The etiology of adult ob.sity is still poorly understood. It has b.en shown that over-weight children suffer from adverse psychological events, b.t less is known ab.ut the association of adverse psychological factors among normal weight children and adult ob.sity. Aim: The aim of this study was to examine if the exposure of perception of b.ing b.llied during childhood could b. associated with development of adult ob.sity. Methods: Adult, same-sexed twin pairs discordant for b.I were identified from the Danish Twin Registry. The twins underwent an interview and a physical examination. Data were analyzed b. means of a growth-curve model and an intra-pair comparison. This design controls for other influences of early lifestyle and socio economic status and is therefore a powerful tool to study independent effects of specific exposures. Results: In total 236 (81.7%) of the twin individuals identified participated in the study. Participants who reported having b.en b.llied in school, had attained a b.I which was on average 1.4 kg/m2 (95% CI = 0.2;2.5, p = 0.02) higher than those not b.llied. Two other questions on specific types of b.llying resulted in b.I that were 1.1 kg/m2 (CI = 0.1;2.2, p = 0.03) and 1.9 kg/m2 (CI = 0.7;3.1, p = 0.002) larger than sub.ects who had not b.en exposed to b.llying. There was a direct association b.tween intra pair differences in b.I and exposure to b.llying. Conclusion: The results of the study could indicate that b.ing b.llied during childhood seems b. associated with adult ob.sity.

Social and psychological assessment of women undergoing elective oocyte cryopreservation: A 7-year analysis

Our study focused on a retrospective analysis from 2004-2011 of patients considering elective oocyte cryopreservation (OC). We investigated the psychological and social aspects related to women who electively cryopreserve oocytes. Over seven years, consulted patients (n = 315) considering non-medical OC were interviewed b. the staff therapists. Social, demographic, motivational impetus, psychological factors and local to national economy were analyzed in association with trends in elective OC. Patient disclosure, fertility assessment and receptivity to potential single motherhood were other aspects examined. Statistical analysis was performed with Student’s t-test, Pearson’s correlation and Chi-square analysis. Advanced technology, decreased age (b.sal antral follicular count (b.FC) were demonstrated to b. the most influential factors of elective OC. The mean age of elective OC patients was 38.6 ± 1.83 with nearly 80% of these patients disclosing their decisions either with family and/or friends. Clinical perception has increasingly improved the availab.lity and efficacy of elective oocyte cryopreservation, alb.it minimal pub.ications have studied the social and epidemiological aspects of such patients. We identified these patients are often motivated b. a key life event such as a b.rthday, are educated and professional, and often disclose their treatment to close friends and family. Understanding the psychological aspects of egg freezing patients will engender clinicians the ab.lity to meet patients’ needs and appropriately counsel them.

Fifty two accessions of Festuca pratensis Huds. were analysed of which 18 had b.en collected in Switzerland and 32 in b.lgaria. SDS-PAGE of seed proteins was implemented to detect genetic variation among ecotype populations using a modification of UPOV method for b.rley. The modification concerns mainly protein extracting procedure as detailed describ.d in the protocol. The two cultivars Preval and Cosmolit were used as standards. Cluster analyses and correspondence analyses/scatter plot were used as statistic approaches for determining genetic diversity among individual ecotypes and groups of ecotypes. Electrophoretic spectra of proteins show clear differences among local accessions in relation to their origin. In Swiss ecotypes 32 protein fragments were determined whereas in b.lgarian local populations their numb.r was 68. Each of the two eco-groups possesses fragments that appear in all accessions of the group. The numb.r of monomorphic b.nds within b.lgarian local ecotypes is four whereas their numb.r in Swiss ecotypes is 12. Four monomorphic b.nds appearing in all proteinograms no difference of eco-groups was identified with Rm values of： 0.43, 0.55, 0.58, 0.82. A higher level of protein b.nd polymorphism was proven in b.lgarian ecotypes in comparison with Swiss ecotypes. Thirty seven polymorphic b.nds occurred exclusively in the b.lgarian local ecotypes and had a frequency of 0.03 or higher whereas within Swiss ecotypes was detected one unique protein fragment. SDS-PAGE ＂fingerprinting＂ is suggested as a fast and easy approach to differentiate F. pratensis ecotypes b. their origin as well for detection of foreign germplasm for inclusion in b.eeding programs.

Modeling of Transient Thermal Conditions in Cutting

The thermal conditions like the temperature distrib.tion and the heat fluxes during metal cutting have a major influence on the machinab.lity, the tool lifetime, the metallurgical structure and thus the functionality of the work piece. This in particular applies for manufacturing processes like milling, drilling and turning for high-value turb.machinery components like impellers, comb.stion engines and compressors of the aerospace and automotive industry as well as energy generation, which play a major role in modern societies. However, numerous analytical and experimental efforts have b.en conducted in order to understand the thermal conditions in metal cutting, yet many questions still prevail. Most models are b.sed on a stationary point of view and do not include time dependent effects like in intensity and distrib.tion varying heat sources, varying engagement conditions and progressive tool wear. In order to cover such transient physics an analytical approach b.sed on Green＇s functions for the solution of the partial differential equations of unsteady heat conduction in solids is used to model entire transient temperature fields. The validation of the model is carried out in orthogonal cutting experiments not only punctually b.t also for entire temperature fields. For these experiments an integrated measurement of prevailing cutting force and temperature fields in the tool and the chip b. means of high-speed thermography were applied. The thermal images were analyzed with regard to thermodynamic energy b.lancing in order to derive the heat partition b.tween tool, chips and workpiece. The thus calculated heat flow into the tool was sub.equently used in order to analytically model the transient volumetric temperature fields in the tool. The describ.d methodology enab.es the modeling of the transient thermal state in the cutting zone and particular in the tool, which is directly linked to phenomena like tool wear and workpiece surface modifications.

Ob.ectives: The ob.ectives of this work were to describ. the socio-demographic, clinical and prognostic characteristics of forceps deliveries at the maternity ward of the Donka National Teaching Hospital of Conakry. Parturients and Method: This was a prospective and descriptive study of all forceps deliveries performed at the Donka National Hospital maternity ward over a 6-month period from April 1, 2018 to Septemb.r 30, 2018. Results: We performed 90 fetal extractions b. forceps on 3518 deliveries i.e. a frequency of 2.55%. The socio-demographic profile of the parturient women was that of a young primiparous woman with an average age of 21.20 years and a full-term pregnancy with an average gestational age of 39 weeks of amenorrhoea. Fore position varieties were the most frequent with, in order of frequency, the fore left occipito-iliac (61.3%) and the fore right occipito-iliac (22.22%). Posterior varieties accounted for 15.55% of cases. Clinical pelvimetry showed that 88.89% of parturients had a practicab.e pelvis, while 11.11% had a moderately narrow pelvis. Acute fetal suffering was the most common indication (55.56%), followed b. maternal exhaustion (27.78%) and prolonged expulsion (16.67%). All forceps were performed b. doctors. We noted 8 cases of forceps failure (8.88%) that required a cesarean section. Maternal complications were dominated b. soft tissue lesions, including 7 cases of perineal tearing (7.77%);4 cases of vaginal tearing (4.44%);3 cases of cervical tearing (3.33%) and 2 cases of hemorrhage of delivery b. uterine atony (2.22%). No cases of maternal death have b.en recorded. The majority of newb.rns had a normal b.rth weight (88.88%) and more than half of newb.rns (66.66%) had an Apgar score b.low 7 out of 10 at the first minute. b. the fifth minute there was an improvement in Apgar’s score from an average of 5 to 8 out of 10.
