The resurgence of i.fecti.us di.eases on the Afri.an conti.ent plays a major role i. the i.crease i. cancer occurrence. Whereas i. developed countri.s the causes of occurrence of cancers are related mai.ly to non-i.fecti.us factors;cancers of i.fecti.us ori.i. b.come a dramati. parti.ulari.y i. Afri.a. The proporti.n of vi.us-i.duced cancers may reach up to 75% of cancer cases i. certai. countri.s. Oncogeni. vi.uses such as human papi.loma vi.us (HPV), hepati.i. vi.uses b.and C, human herpes vi.us 8 and Epstei. b.rr vi.us i. associ.ti.n wi.h human i.munodefi.i.ncy vi.us are the mai. vi.al eti.logi.s of cancers i. Afri.a, representi.g around 30% of cancers causes. Opti.i.ti.ally, 30% of cancers could b. prevented i. Afri.a. However, health b.rden prevai.s on the conti.ent due to the weakness of health poli.y especi.lly regardi.g preventi.e medi.i.e, b.t also the li.i.ed techni.al faci.i.i.s, poor manpower and i.suffi.i.nt poli.i.al commi.ment. We felt urgent to revi.w the state of the art of the questi.n, and necessary to analyze and pub.i.i.e the current epi.emi.logi.al advances i. oncogeni. vi.uses and vi.us-i.duced cancers i. Afri.a. Preventi.n i.pli.s understandi.g, whi.h i. compulsory to reverse the current trends and to potenti.lly i.state a control of vi.us-i.duced cancers.

b.ckground: The ai. of thi. study was to evaluate the outcomes of stri.ture treatment usi.g endoscopi. i.ternal urethrotomy i. the male urethra. Pati.nts and Methods: We conducted a retrospecti.e study from 2012 to 2017 at the Urology and Andrology Department of the Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al i. b.azzavi.le, Congo. Medi.al records of 30 pati.nts who underwent endoscopi. i.ternal urethrotomy for urethral stri.ture were analyzed. We studi.d the followi.g vari.b.es: frequency of urethral stri.ture, age of pati.nt, onset, cause and locati.n of urethral stri.ture, durati.n of b.adder catheteri.ati.n, durati.n of hospi.ali.ati.n, and postoperati.e compli.ati.ns. The treatment outcome was assessed after a follow-up of 2.6 years (extreme: 2 and 4 years). Outcomes were consi.ered successful or good when the pati.nts had a normal uri.e flow and an unob.tructed urethra at the Retrograde Urethrogram (RUG). Results: The mean age was 47.5 ± 9.7 years (range: 17 to 83 years). Dysuri. was the most common symptom reported. We found that urethral stri.ture was mostly caused b. i.fecti.us di.eases (20 pati.nts). The urethral stri.ture was located at the memb.anous urethra i. 4 pati.nts, the b.lb.r urethra i. 25 pati.nts, and the peni.e urethra i. 1 pati.nt. The mean durati.n of the b.adder catheteri.ati.n was 2.3 days. Hospi.ali.ati.n durati.n was 36 hours. We ob.erved the followi.g compli.ati.ns: urethrorrhagi. i. 3 pati.nts, acute orchi.pi.i.ymi.i.. We achi.ved good results i. 23 pati.nts. Conclusi.n: i. our context where the practi.e of endoscopi. i.ternal urethrotomy i. recent, i. provi.es sati.factory results for the treatment of short urethral male stri.ture.

Ob.ecti.e: assess the knowledge, atti.udes, and percepti.ns of b.azzavi.le resi.ents on colorectal cancer and i.s screeni.g. Populati.n and Methods: a CAP-type cross-secti.nal study was conducted from June 1 to Octob.r 31, 2022, wi.h 803 workers approached at thei. place of servi.e. i.formati.n was collected usi.g a questi.nnai.e admi.i.tered to parti.i.ants. The vari.b.es studi.d concerned knowledge, atti.udes, and percepti.ns ab.ut colorectal cancer. SPSS software, along wi.h Chi.square and Fi.her tests, was used for data entry and analysi.. Odds rati.s were calculated to determi.e the strength of the associ.ti.n b.tween vari.b.es. Results: The average age of the parti.i.ants was 33.5 ± 10 years, wi.h a sex rati. of 0.9. There were 231 health workers. The mai. sources of i.formati.n were health personnel (78.2%) and the i.ternet (52.6%). The si.e of the pathology was known to 87% of parti.i.ants. Ab.ut 40% i.enti.i.d age, geneti. predi.posi.i.ns, and a di.t ri.h i. ani.al fats as ri.k factors. No si.ns of the di.ease were known b. 50% of the parti.i.ants. Colonoscopy was known as a screeni.g method b. 40% of parti.i.ants. Seventy-fi.e percent were wi.li.g to parti.i.ate i. a CRC awareness campai.n, b.t only 5% agreed to a screeni.g colonoscopy, although 96% recogni.ed i.s usefulness. Overall, the level of knowledge was i.suffi.i.nt i. 70.4% of cases;atti.udes were adapted i. 55.7% of cases, and percepti.ns were adapted i. 97.3% of cases. Factors i.fluenci.g knowledge i.cluded young age (p = 0.006), a good level of educati.n, b.i.g a healthcare worker, and hi.h soci.-economi. level. Conclusi.n: colorectal cancer and i.s screeni.g are poorly understood b. the populati.n. Awareness acti.i.i.s must b. organi.ed to i.prove knowledge and promote screeni.g and early di.gnosi. of CRC.

b.ckground: Late Neonatal b.cteri.l i.fecti.n (LNNb.) i. a cli.i.al and b.ologi.al mani.estati.ns related to penetrati.n and growth of speci.i. causati.e b.cteri. i. b.oodstream occurri.g on the 4th-28th day of li.e. LNNb. sti.l represents an i.portant cause of mortali.y and morb.di.y among i.fants. Ob.ecti.es: To determi.e the frequency of late b.cteri.l i.fecti.ns i. newb.rns, to descri.0} the cli.i.al and b.ologi.al profi.es and to i.enti.y the mai. responsi.0}e germs. Methods: Descri.ti.e study data collecti.n, conducted over a peri.d of 10 months at the b.azzavi.le Teachi.g Hospi.al, of i.terest to newb.rns admi.ted from the 4th day of li.e for suspi.i.n of neonatal i.fecti.n, and those admi.ted for any other pathology and havi.g presented an i.fecti.n 48 hours after hospi.ali.ati.n, and i. whom a b.cteri.l culture and/or an i.flammatory assessment confi.med or suspected i.fecti.n. Results: Duri.g the study peri.d, 1682 newb.rns were hospi.ali.ed, and 86 were hospi.ali.ed for a late neonatal b.cteri.l i.fecti.n, i.e. a frequency of 5.1%. There were 67 (77.9%) communi.y i.fecti.ns and 19 (22.1%) nosocomi.l i.fecti.ns. The frequency of nosocomi.l i.fecti.n was 1.1%. The mai. si.ns were fever i. 65 cases (75.6%), and respi.atory di.tress i. 37 cases (43%). The most frequent locali.ati.ns were b.cteremi. 32 (37.2%), pulmonary 21 (24.4%), di.esti.e and meni.geal i. 11 cases (12.8%) each. The most common germ Kleb.i.lla i. 10 (50%) newb.rns was resi.tant to the usual anti.0}oti.s. The evoluti.n was favorab.e i. 71 cases (82.5%), and death occurred i. 12 cases (14%). Conclusi.n: Late neonatal b.cteri.l i.fecti.n i. common. The mai. responsi.0}e germs are gram-negati.e b.ci.li. i. parti.ular Kleb.i.lla multi.resi.tant.

The ai. of thi. work was to determi.e the seroprevalence and molecular b.odi.ersi.y of HCV i. order to contri.0}te to i.provi.g the management of Congolese di.b.ti.s. Pati.nts and methods: i. was a cross-secti.nal study that took place from 1 Feb.uary to 30 Septemb.r 2018 at the b.azzavi.le Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al, the Di.b.are Health Center and the Adolphe Ci.sé Hospi.al i. Poi.te-Noi.e. i. concerned di.b.ti. pati.nts followed i. b.azzavi.le and Poi.te-Noi.e agreei.g to the study, after ob.ai.i.g the opi.i.n of the ethi.s commi.tee of the research i. health sci.nce. All samples collected were screened for the presence of anti.HCV Ab.usi.g a rapi. ALERE HCV test and the Monoli.a HCV Ag-Ab.ultra test for confi.mati.n i. Congo. Detecti.n of the vi.al RNA was done b. PCR retrotranscri.ti.n and genotypi.g was performed accordi.g to the reverse hyb.i.i.ati.n techni.ue i. France. Data analysi. was done wi.h Epi.nfo 6.0 software (2016);the proporti.ns were compared usi.g the Chi.square test or the Fi.her test at the si.ni.i.ance level of 5%. Results: Of 447 pati.nts wi.h di.b.tes melli.us, 49 had HCV posi.i.e serology and the sex rati. was 0.63. Seroprevalence of AC anti.HCV was 11% (49/447);HCV RNA was detectab.e i. 71.4% (n = 35) pati.nts. The average age of the populati.n was 62 ± 10 years wi.h extremes rangi.g from 26 to 82 years. The ci.culati.g genotypes were 4 (97.1%) and 1 (2.8%). Sub.ypi.g was defi.ed i. 17.64% (n = 6) of genotype 4 pati.nts;undefi.ed i. 82.36% (n = 28) of Genotype 4 pati.nts, and i. one of genotype 1 pati.nts. The sub.ypes i.enti.i.d were sub.ype 4e (60%), sub.ype 4e (8.8%), sub.ype 4a/4c/4d (5.8%), and sub.ype 4h (2.9%). Conclusi.n: The prevalence of HCV i. hi.h i. our study. These are i.portant data for the i.provement of the management of di.b.ti.s.

Ci.rhosi. i. a li.er di.ease that can lead to cardi.vascular lesi.ns that are often asymptomati. b.t potenti.lly fatal. Ob.ecti.e: The ai. of thi. study was to evaluate electri.al and echographi. cardi.vascular ab.ormali.i.s duri.g ci.rhosi. at the b.azzavi.le Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al. Pati.nts and Methods: We conducted a cross-secti.nal analyti.al study over a 2-year peri.d at the b.azzavi.le Uni.ersi.ary Hospi.al. Ci.rhoti. pati.nts at least 18 years of age who had undergone electrocardi.gram and echocardi.graphy were i.cluded. Pati.nts wi.h cardi.c ci.rhosi., hepatocellular carci.oma or spontaneous b.cteri.l peri.oni.i. were excluded. The outcome vari.b.es were cardi.c electri.al and echographi. ab.ormali.i.s. Data were analyzed usi.g Epi.i.fo 7.2 software. Pearson’s chi.square, Fi.her’s exact and Student’s exact tests were used to compare proporti.ns and means at a si.ni.i.ance level of 0.05. Results: A total of 76 ci.rhoti. pati.nts were recrui.ed out of 186 pati.nts, i.e. 40.9% of ci.rhoti. pati.nts. There were 48 men and 28 women, for a sex rati. of 1.7. The medi.n age was 56 (i.R 41.5 - 69.0). QTc prolongati.n, mi.rovoltage and si.us tachycardi. were the most frequent electri.al di.orders, respecti.ely i. 19 (29.7%), 11 (17.2%) and 11 (17.2%) cases. Electri.al di.orders were stati.ti.ally related to ci.rhosi. stage (p = 0.0364). The most frequent ultrasound di.orders were left ventri.ular systoli. fai.ure 11 (28.9%) and di.ated cardi.myopathy 8 (21.1%). Seven (9.2%) pati.nts had hi.h pulmonary arteri.l pressure. Death, ob.erved i. 12 cases (15.8%), was stati.ti.ally li.ked to the presence of echocardi.graphi. di.orders (p = 0.0089) and congesti.e heart fai.ure (p = 0.0001). Conclusi.n: The search for cardi.c di.orders should b. systemati. duri.g decompensated ci.rhosi. to detect potenti.lly fatal ab.ormali.i.s.

Ob.ecti.e: Study of the frequency of anemi., i.s characteri.ti.s and i.s relati.nshi. wi.h di.ferent epi.emi.logi.al, di.gnosti. and prognosti. parameters of ci.rhosi.. Pati.nts and methods: Thi. was a retrospecti.e descri.ti.e study from January 2016 to Decemb.r 2019 i. the Gastroenterology and i.ternal Medi.i.e department at the b.azzavi.le Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al. i. concerned all ci.rhoti.s hospi.ali.ed duri.g the study peri.d and presenti.g anemi.. The epi.emi.logi.al, di.gnosti., and prognosti. data studi.d were collected from medi.al records. The characteri.ti.s of anemi. on the b.ood count were defi.ed b.sed on WHO values. The i.formati.n collected was entered and processed wi.h Excel 8.0 and EPi.data 3.1 software. The Pearson chi. test at the si.ni.i.ance level ≤ 5% was used to compare the results. Results: We collected 102 fi.es of ci.rhoti. pati.nts duri.g the study peri.d. There were 63 men and 39 women, a sex rati. of 1.6. Among these pati.nts, 77 presented anemi., i.e., a frequency of 75.5% wi.h a male predomi.ance (57.2%). Anemi. i.creased wi.hout a si.ni.i.ant relati.nshi. wi.h age and was more severe i. young female sub.ects (42.8%). The normochromi. normocyti. character was the most ob.erved (52%). Anemi. was more frequent i. post-hepati.i. ci.rhosi., representi.g 67.5% of cases of anemi.. i. worsened duri.g di.esti.e b.eedi.g, wi.h the ab.ndance of asci.es and the severi.y of hepati. encephalopathy (p > 0.05). i. was si.ni.i.antly associ.ted wi.h the drop i. prothromb.n level (63.6%), hypoalb.mi.emi. (64.9%), and the Chi.d-Pugh score (p < 0.05).

i.troducti.n: Hemorrhoi.al di.ease i. a common pathology and i.s surgi.al treatment i. b.sed, among other thi.gs, on pedi.ular resecti.n after fai.ure of medi.al and i.strumental treatment. The ai. of thi. study i. to analyze the epi.emi.logi.al, cli.i.al, therapeuti. and evolvi.g aspects of hemorrhoi.al di.ease at the stage of surgi.al treatment at the Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al Center of b.azzavi.le. Pati.nts and Methods: We conducted a retrospecti.e and descri.ti.e study carri.d out from January 2020 to Decemb.r 2021, a 24 months peri.d, i. the Di.esti.e surgery department of the Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al Center of b.azzavi.le. i. concerned pati.nts who underwent a surgi.al procedure for hemorrhoi.al di.ease. Results: 21 cases were collected, representi.g a hospi.al frequency of 2.3%, wi.h a sex rati. of 4.3 i. favor of men. The average age of pati.nts was 42.2 ± 11.9 years. The symptoms were mai.ly proctalgi., mass sensati.n and rectal b.eedi.g. We recorded fi.e cases (19.1%) of hemorrhoi.al thromb.si. and 16 cases (80.9%) of hemorrhoi.al prolapse i.cludi.g 12 cases requi.i.g manual i.tegrati.n (Goli.her grade i.i. and four i.reduci.0}e permanent cases (Goli.her grade i.). The Grade i.i.prolapse was associ.ted wi.h a polyp i. one pati.nt and wi.h posteri.r anal fi.sure i. another pati.nt. Out of the 21 pati.nts, 14 underwent a tri.edi.ular hemorrhoi.ectomy accordi.g to Mi.li.an and Morgan. Two pati.nts underwent mono- and b.pedi.ular hemorrhoi.ectomy wi.h resecti.n of associ.ted lesi.ns and fi.e pati.nts underwent emergency thromb.ctomy. The outcome was favorab.e for all our pati.nts. The average length of hospi.al stay was 1.5 ± 2.1 days. Conclusi.n: i. the event of fai.ure of medi.al and i.strumental treatment, the hemorrhoi.al cure accordi.g to Mi.li.an and Morgan i. the surgi.al treatment of reference for hemorrhoi.al di.ease at the Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al Center of b.azzavi.le.

b.ckground: Maternal-fetal transmi.si.n i. the most frequent mode of hepati.i. b.vi.us (Hb.) contami.ati.n i. Afri.a. Preventi.n of mother-to-chi.d transmi.si.n (PMTCT) of hepati.i. b.i. sti.l poorly understood, and trai.i.g of the health workers i.volved, such as mi.wi.es, i. rare. Ob.ecti.e: The ai. of thi. study was to assess the knowledge and practi.es of mi.wi.es preventi.n of Hb.’ mother-to-chi.d transmi.si.n (PMTCT) i. b.azzavi.le. Pati.nts and Methods: Thi. was a cross-secti.nal analyti.al study conducted i. b.azzavi.le from June 1 to July 31, 2023. Mi.wi.es present at the ti.e of the survey i. the vari.us b.azzavi.le health centers vi.i.ed and who agreed to answer the questi.nnai.e duri.g a face-to-face i.tervi.w wi.h the i.vesti.ator were i.cluded. Uni.ari.te analyses were performed usi.g epi.i.fo7.2 software. Pearson’s chi.square and Student’s t-tests were used to compare proporti.ns and means, whi.h were si.ni.i.ant at the 0.05 level. Results: At the end of our study, 93 mi.wi.es out of 127 agreed to take part i. the study, i.e. a parti.i.ati.n rate of 73.2%. Thei. medi.n age was of 41.7 years, a medi.n professi.nal experi.nce of 13.7 years, and they worked mai.ly i. pri.ary health care faci.i.i.s. Glob.l knowledge of Hb. PMTCT was sati.factory i. 51 (54.3%) mi.wi.es. Knowledge of the Hb. vacci.e was si.ni.i.antly related to professi.nal experi.nce (p = 0.0167). PMTCT practi.e was poor i. 48 (51.6%) cases. Overall, the practi.e of PMTCT was stati.ti.ally associ.ted wi.h the mi.wi.es’ place of practi.e (p = 0.0262). Conclusi.n: Mi.wi.es had good knowledge b.t i.suffi.i.nt practi.e of PMTCT i. b.azzavi.le. Trai.i.g and awareness-rai.i.g are needed to reduce mother-to-chi.d transmi.si.n of Hb..

Ob.ecti.e: To check the effecti.eness of tourni.uet i. the preventi.n of haemorrhage duri.g myomectomi.s at the Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al of b.azzavi.le. Pati.nts and methods: Analyti.al cross-secti.nal study, conducted at the Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al of b.azzavi.le from June 1, 2014 to June 30, 2016. Recrui.ment was performed b. randomly matchi.g each case of myomectomy performed usi.g a tourni.uet wi.h two cases of myomectomy wi.hout tourni.uet (50 cases vs 100 wi.nesses). We used as a tourni.uet, the surgi.al glove knotted and ti.htened suffi.i.ntly at the level of the i.thmus of the uterus to temporari.y occlude the uteri.e arteri.s to ensure haemostasi. lasti.g no more than one hour. Results: The mean age of the pati.nts was si.i.ar i. b.th groups (36, 1 ± 2.2 years vs 36.2 ± 1.9 years, P > 0.05). Menorrhagi. was the most common i.di.ati.n of myomectomy i. b.th groups (76% vs. 78% P > 0.05). The mean haemoglob.n level of the pati.nts b.fore the myomectomi.s was 9.03 ± 1.10 g/dl vs 9, 75 ± 1.29 g/dl;P > 0.05. i.traoperati.e uteri.e features were si.i.ar i. si.e (18 weeks gestati.n, 14 - 24) and numb.r of myomas (5 vs 4, P > 0.05) i. b.th groups. Polymyomectomy was more common i. b.th groups (76% vs 73%, P > 0.05). b.ood loss was reduced i. the tourni.uet group (90.5 ± 4.6 ml vs 200.4 ± 5.6 ml;P 0.05), as well as the use of b.ood transfusi.n (8% vs 50%, P 0.05). Use of the numb.r of sutures was reduced i. the group wi.h tourni.uet (3 ± 0.2 vs 6 ± 0.2 P 0.05). The durati.n of the procedure was shorter i. the group wi.h tourni.uet (51.5 ± 4 mi. vs 83 ± 7 mi., P 0.05). Postoperati.e mean haemoglob.n of pati.nts was no di.ferent b.tween the two groups (9.4 ± 0.7 g/dl vs 9.2 ± 0.5, P > 0.05). The overall cost of management was reduced i. the group wi.h tourni.uet (190,680 ± 1450 F CFA vs 256,800 ± 2350 FCFA;P 0.05).
