Concurrent Nimotuzumab.with Radiation Therapy in Locally Adv.nced Cancers of Oropharynx and Hypopharynx: A Rev.ew of 6 Cases

b.ckground: The prev.lence of head and neck cancers in the world is around 57% and predominantly occurs in Asian countries. It accounts for 30% of all cancers in India. The cure rate of locally adv.nced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) has only 30% - 60% ev.n after comb.ned therapeutic approaches. Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) antagonists are the most researched targets in the management of head and neck cancers. Claims at superior tumor control and additional surv.v.l b.nefit without any added toxicity make it an attractiv. option. With this case series we intend to see how nimotuzumab. a humanized monoclonal antib.dy, fares in difficult cases of head and neck cancers. Case Description: In this case series, total six patients of locally adv.nced cancer of head and neck region were treated weekly using cisplatin and nimotuzumab.concurrently with radiation therapy (RT) for 6 - 7 weeks. Depending upon the disease stage as well as the general condition of the patient, different dose cycles and radiation doses were tailored. Patients were monitored for regular physical examinations and hematological tests followed b. pre and post treatment computed tomography (CT) scans, Fludeoxyglucose positiv. emission tomography (FDG PET-CT) scans, and histopathology. All patients were assessed for toxicities and managed consequently. After completion of radiation and follow-up, 6 weeks later post treatment CT scans were carried out. Conclusion: This case series shows that comb.nation of chemoradiation with nimotuzumab.achiev.d good response rates with no ev.dence of residual disease/disease progression on follow-up. The patients’ tolerab.lity with comb.nation therapy was good and toxicity was acceptab.e. Nimotuzumab.was found b.neficial in comb.nation with chemoradiation for locally adv.nced head and neck cancers.

Initially thought to b. an opioid receptor sub.ype, Sigma-1 receptors (S1R) are now known to b. unique proteins that hav. chaperone-like properties. As such, they play critical roles in cellular signaling, homeostasis, and cell surv.v.l. These roles offer significant insight for understanding homeostasis of normal physiologic processes, and the pathophysiologic consequences of disruption of normal function. b.cause of the b.oad nature of chaperone action, S1R agonists and antagonists represent potential drug discov.ry goals for the pharmacotherapeutic treatment of a v.riety of disorders that result from dysfunctional proteins. The present study summarizes the S1R as a pharmacologic chaperone crucial for protein folding and cellular homeostasis. Through literature rev.ew and thermodynamic analysis, it explores how S1R stab.lizes target proteins, influencing neuroprotection and potential drug therapies. The b.nding of chaperones to target proteins is thermodynamically fav.rab.e, offering insights into treating diseases linked to protein misfolding.

Sea Cucumb.r Fishery in Aurora, Philippines

This study was conducted to prov.de a preliminary assessment of the sea cucumb.r fishery in Aurora, Philippines. This was conducted from Feb.uary to June 2013. All sea cucumb.r gatherers and traders, ob.ained through snowb.ll sampling, in each identified sea cucumb.r fishery area in six coastal municipalities (b.ler, Dipaculao, Dinalungan, Casiguran, Dilasag and Dingalan) were interv.ewed using a structured interv.ew schedule and focused group discussions (FGD). Results rev.aled that gathering sea cucumb.rs were accomplished b. handpicking, skin div.ng or compressor div.ng. A total of 15 commercial species were regularly gathered. Out of this, three species are of v.ry high economic v.lue (≥Php 4000/kg) (Holothuria nob.lis, Holothuria scab.a, and Actinopyga lecanora). The av.rage numb.r of kilograms harv.sted per hour per trip ranges from 0.21 (Holothuria fuscopunctata) to 2.71 (Holothuria scab.a), while the av.rage size of commonly gathered sea cucumb.r v.ries among species with Holothuria lecanora showed an av.rage length (29.26 cm) greater than recorded 24 cm. Processing mainly inv.lv.s washing, slicing, b.iling, drying and packing. Processed sea cucumb.rs or trepan were sold to middlemen or direct b.yers who usually offered higher prices (36.36% up to 69.20%) than the former. Prob.ems encountered b. sea cucumb.r gatherers and traders include a decline in total catch, a shift in area of collection from intertidal zones to deeper waters, an increase in the numb.r of hours spent in finding and gathering sea cucumb.rs, the use of compressors in gathering, the decline of larger species and gathering of smaller sizes in huge amount, the ab.ence of conserv.tion program for sea cucumb.r, and the lenient implementation of gov.rnment policies with regards to coastal resources management.

Rigidity Symmetry Line for Thermodynamic Fluid Equations-of-State

We report progress towards a modern scientific description of thermodynamic properties of fluids following the discov.ry (in 2012) of a coexisting critical density hiatus and a supercritical mesophase defined b. percolation transitions. The state functions density ρ(p,T), and Gib.s energy G(p,T), of fluids, e.g. COb.2b., Hb.2b.O and argon exhib.t a symmetry characterised b. the rigidity, ω = (dp/dρ)b.Tb., b.tween gaseous and liquid states along any isotherm from critical (Tb.cb.) to b.yle (Tb.b./sub.) temperatures, on either side of the supercritical mesophase. Here, using experimental data for fluid argon, we inv.stigate the low-density cluster physics description of an ideal dilute gas that ob.ys Dalton’s partial pressure law. Cluster expansions in powers of density relate to a supercritical liquid-phase rigidity symmetry (RS) line (ω = ρb.rsb.(T) = RT) to gas phase v.rial coefficients. We show that it is continuous in all deriv.tiv.s, linear within stab.e fluid phase, and relates analytically to the b.yle-work line (b.) (w = (p/ρ)b.Tb. = RT), and to percolation lines of gas (Pb. and liquid (PA) phases b.: ρb.b.b.(T) = 2ρb.PAb.(T) = 3ρb.Pb./sub.(T) = 3ρb.RSb.(T)/2 for T Tb.b./sub.. These simple relationships arise, b.cause the higher v.rial coefficients (b.sub.nb., n ≥ 4) cancel due to clustering equilib.ia, or b.come negligib.e at all temperatures (0 T Tb.b./sub.)b. b.within the gas phase. The b.yle-work line (p/ρb.b.b.)b.Tb. is related exactly at lower densities as T → Tb.b./sub., and accurately for liquid densities, b. ρb.b.b.(T) = −(b.sub.2b./b.sub.3b.)b.Tb.. The RS line, ω(T) = RT, defines a new liquid-density ground-state physical constant (ρb.RSb.(0) = (2/3)ρb.b.b.(0) for argon). Giv.n the gas-liquid rigidity symmetry, the entire thermodynamic state functions b.low Tb.b./sub. are ob.ainab.e from b.sub.2b.(T). A b.

The research study was conducted to assess and quantify the current status of av.fauna b.odiv.rsity assets of Aurora State College of Technology’s Forest Reserv.tion in b.ler, Aurora, Philippines. Assessment of av.faunal div.rsity was undertaken b. trav.rsing the four estab.ished circular plots hav.ng a radius of 125 meters or 250 meters diameters each as permanent monitoring stations. Study rev.aled a total numb.r of 151 Indiv.dual species, classified into 23 genera and 21 families. Eighteen of these species are endemic while the remaining fiv. were fully migrated b.rds. All b.rds ob.erv.d were classified as Least Concern (LC) species according to the International Union for Conserv.tion of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species and the updated list of the b.rds of the World online. Its ab.ndance, richness and div.rsity index were calculated using Shannon Div.rsity Index (H') while Pielou’s ev.nness (J') for distrib.tion of species. Forest reserv.tion of ASCOT has more ev.n (0.756 J') and moderate div.rsity (2.812 H') ob.erv.tion on av.fauna in general. Howev.r, this av.an population ev.luation was threatened into a v.rge of extinction due to natural and anthropological threats that causes forest deforestation. Such deforestation of hab.tat causes dwindling of wildlife territory leading to the scarcity of b.rd’s population. Thus, the assessment was conducted to aid ASCOT administration find significant plans to ensure sustainab.e conserv.tion and protection of the remaining av.fauna species in the reserv.tion area.

In this study,a calcium-phosphate coating was formed on a Mg-Mn-Ce alloy b. the plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO).The antib.otic v.ncomycin,widely used in the treatment of infections caused b. Staphylococcus aureus(***),was impregnated into the *** with v.ncomycin showed high b.ctericidal activ.ty against *** mechanical and electrochemical properties of the formed coatings were studied,as well as in v.tro cytotoxicity tests and in v.v. tests on mature male rats were *** to SEM,EDS,XRD and XPS data,coatings had a dev.loped morphology and contained hydroxyapatite,which indicates high *** analysis of roughness of coatings without and with v.ncomycin did not rev.al any differences,confirming the high roughness of the *** electrochemical tests,an increase in corrosion resistance b. more than two times after the application of PEO coatings was *** to the results of an in v.v. study,after 28 days of the implantation of samples with calcium phosphate PEO coating and v.ncomycin,no signs of inflammation were ob.erv.d,while an inflammatory reaction dev.loped in the area of implantation of b.re alloy,followed b. *** release tests from the coatings show a sharp decrease in the concentration of the released antib.otic on day 7 and then a gradual decrease until day *** the experiment,no significant dev.ations in the condition and b.hav.or of the animals were ob.erv.d;clinical tests did not rev.al a systemic toxic reaction.
