Correlates of long-term physical activity adherence in women

background: Little is known about the factors that may influence women's adherence to moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) using longitudinal data. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlates of long-term physical activity(PA) participation among ***: Female data from Waves I, III, and IV(n = 5381) of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health(Add Health) were used for the analysis. The outcome of PA adherence was operationalized as(1) consistently physically active(at least 5 instances during the week)in both Waves III and IV(during adulthood), and(2) consistently not physically active or only physically active in either Wave III or IV. Predictor variables from Wave I(during adolescence) included race/ethnicity, PA level, self-perception of being physically fit, general health status, attempt to change weight, parents' income level, parents' education, well-being, depression, access to PA resources, days of physical education(PE), and grade level. Crude and adjusted logistic regression models were utilized to estimate the adjusted odds ratio(a OR) and 95% confidence interval(95%CI) for the outcome ***: PA levels during adolescence significantly predicted PA adherence(a OR = 1.67, 95%CI: 1.35–2.05). Additionally, wanting to lose weight(a OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.20–1.85), using fitness center in the neighborhood(a OR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.05–1.58), and having 5 days of PE a week(a OR = 1.48, 95%CI: 1.09–2.02) were significant predictors. Women who did not perceive being physically fit(a OR = 0.65, 95%CI: 0.44–0.95)and black, non-Hispanics(a OR = 0.60, 95%CI: 0.44–0.82) were less likely to adhere to ***: The findings suggested that physically active adolescents were more likely to become active adults. Future research should address interventions(e.g., PE program, community resources) that may promote lifetime PA in women, with the goal of decreasing morbidity and mortality.

A simple umbelliferone based fluorescent probe for the detection of nitroreductase

A simple nitrobenzyl-umbelliferone （NCOU1） was synthesised containing a nitroreductase （NTR） trigger moiety. The presence of NTR, resulted in the fragmentation of the parent molecule and release of the highly emissive fluorophore umbelliferone via an NTR-catalyzed reduction of the nitro group. In the presence of the NTR enzyme, NCOU1 gave rise to a 5-fold increase in fluorescence intensity at 455 nm and was selective for NTR over other reductive enzymes. These results indicate that NCOU1 can be used as a simple assay for the detection of NTR.

Leaching of Electronic Waste Using biometabolised Acids

The revolution in information and communication technology has brought huge technical benefits and wealth, but has created a major global problem： the generation of vast amounts of electronic waste, or e-waste through product obsolesce. The challenge in managing e-waste will be in developing sustainable recycling tech- nologies that are able to address the volume and complexity of this waste using cost effective and ecologically sen-sitive methods. In this study, the capability or microorganism metabolic acids in dissolving the metallic tractions from waste printed circuit boards was examined. Several factors were considered in the examination of the activityof the acids-including secondary reactions, solution pH, temperature and the nature of ligands in solutions （or bioacid constituents）. The leaching tests were cgnducted ex-situ, using synthetic organic acids. Leaching was performed for periods of up to 6 hat 70-90 ℃ and 1000 r-min-1.

Nonlinear Optical Properties of Two Different Nanoassemblies of Polydiacetylene (PDA): PDA Nanovesicles and PDA Nanocrystals

We have synthesized and characterized two different nanoassemblies of polydiacetylene (PDA), PDA nanovesicles and PDA nanocrystals, in order to study the influence of chain packing geometry of the two nanoassemblies on their third order nonlinear optical properties. The second molecular hyperpolarizability γ(-ω,ω,-ω,ω)of the two samples was investigated by antiresonant ring interferometric nonlinear spectroscopic (ARINS) technique using femtosecond modelocked Ti:sapphire laser in the spectral range of 720 nm - 820 nm. The observed spectral dispersion of γ has been explained in the framework of three-essential states model involving the ground state, a one-photon excited state and a two-photon excited state. The observed optical nonlinearity has been correlated with the electronic structure of the two samples. The energy of two-photon state, transition dipole moments and line width of the transitions have been estimated. Our studies show that the arrangement of polymer chains in polydiacetylene nanocrystals is more favorable for higher nonlinearity.

Stability Analysis of a Force-Aided Lever Actuation System for Dry Clutches with Negative Stiffness Element

A force-aided lever with a preload spring is not only force-saving but also energy-saving. Therefore, it has great potential to be applied to dry clutch actuations. However, the negative stiffness of the clutch diaphragm spring introduces unstable dynamics which becomes more intensive due to the preload spring. In order to explore the intensified unstability, this paper builds dynamic models for the rotating lever coupling a negative stiffness diaphragm spring and a preload spring. The stability analysis using the Routh-Huiwitz criterion shows that the open-loop system can never be stable due to the negative stiffness. Even if the diaphragm spring stiffness is positive, the system is still unstable when the preload of the spring exceeds an upper limit. A proportionalintegral-derivative(PID) closed-loop scheme addressing this problem is designed to stabilize the system. The stability analysis for the closed-loop system shows that stable region emerges in spite of the negative stiffness; the more the negative stiffness is, the less the allowed preload is. Further, the influences of the dimensions and PID parameters on the stability condition are investigated. Finally, the transient dynamic responses of the system subjected to disturbance are compared between the unstable open-loop and stabilized closed-loop systems.

Treatment strategies for chronic hepatitis C prior to andfollowing liver transplantation

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)-related liver disease is the leading indication for liver transplantation(LT) worldwide. However, HCV is an independent predictor of lower survival following LT, and recurrence of HCV postLT is virtually universal. The historic standard of care during the interferon era of HCV therapy was expectant management-initiation of antiviral therapy in the setting of documented disease progression following LT. With the advent of new direct acting antiviral(DAA) therapies for HCV, the paradigm of expectant treatment for recurrent HCV infection post-LT is shifting. The safety, tolerability, and efficacy of DAAs, even among the sickest patients with advanced liver disease, enables treatment of HCV in the pre-transplant setting among LT waitlist registrants. Finally, emerging data are supportive of preemptive therapy with DAAs in liver transplant recipients as the preferred approach. Expectant management of HCV following LT can rarely be justified in the modern era of HCV therapy.

Samarium doped lead-zinc-phosphate glasses having composition(60-x)P_(2)O_(5)-20PbO-20ZnO-xSm_(2)O_(3) where x=0,0.5,1.0,3.0mol%were prepared by using the melt quenching *** Archimedes method was used to measure their densities,which are used to calculate the molar *** values of densities lie in the range 3.698–4.090 gm/cm^(3) whereas those of molar volume lie in the range of 37.24–40.00 cm^(-3).UV-vis-NIR absorption spectroscopy in the wavelength range 200–2000 nm was carried *** spectra consist of seven absorption peaks corresponding to the transitions from the 6H5/2 ground state to various excited energy *** energy band gap measured from the optical absorbance is found to be in the range of 3.88–4.43 eV and 3.68–4.33 eV for direct and indirect transitions,*** addition,the photoluminescence spectrum shows four prominent emission bands centered at 560,597,642 and 700 nm corresponding to the 4G5/2–6HJ(J=5/2,7/2,9/2,11/2)transitions respectively and the intensity of all the bands are enhanced as the concentration of Sm3+ions increases.

A bentonite-humic acid(b-HA) mixture added to degraded soils may improve soil physical and hydraulic properties, due to effects such as improved soil structure and increased water and nutrient retention, but its effect on soil physicochemical and biological properties, and grain quality is largely unknown. The effect of b-HA, added at 30 Mg ha^(-1), was studied at 1,3, 5 and 7 years after its addition to a degraded sandy soil in a semi-arid region of China. The addition of b-HA significantly increased water-filled pore space and soil organic carbon, especially at 3 to 5 years after its soil addition to the soil. Amending the sandy soil with b-HA also increased the content of microbial biomass(Mb)-carbon,-nitrogen and-phosphorus, and the activities of urease, invertase, catalase and alkaline phosphatase. The significant effect of maize(Zea mays L.) growth stage on soil Mb and enzyme activities accounted for 58 and 84% of their total variation, respectively. In comparison, b-HA accounted for 8% of the total variability for each of the same two variables. b-HA significantly enhanced soil properties and the uptake of N and P by maize in semi-arid areas. The use of b-HA product would be an effective management strategy to reclaim degraded sandy soils and foster sustainable agriculture production in northeast China and regions of the world with similar soils and climate.
