Botulinum Toxin Type A Satisfaction in Different Neurological Disorders

Background: The botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) is used in a wide range of neurological diseases. We aimed to study the overall patients/caregivers’ satisfaction with BoNT-A treatment in different neurological conditions. Methods: Prospective study included patients who had received at least two BoNT-A treatment sessions. They were asked to rate overall treatment satisfaction at the peak of treatment effect on a 1 to 10 scale (1 = not at all satisfied;10 = fully satisfied). Subjects with a rating of 1to3 were classified as not at all satisfied, those with a rating of 4 to7 as somewhat satisfied, and those with a rating of 8 to10 as very satisfied. Treatment satisfaction questionnaire for medicine (TSQM) was assessed at the end of observational period. Quality of life QOL was assessed before BoNT-A treatment and at the last visit. Results: The study was conducted from first April 2014 to August 2021. 548 patients were identified with mean age 43.66 ± 14.50. Most of participants 389 (71%) were female. At the end of observational period, the mean satisfaction was 7.28 ± 1.78. There was a highly significant difference (P P P = 0.001). Conclusion: Satisfaction with BoNT-A therapy for different neurological disorders is overall good. The highest patient satisfaction was observed with primary focal HH, and the least satisfaction was observed in writer’s cramp. BoNT-A therapy improved QOL.

Evaluation of Washington Navel Orange Economic Indicators

In Egypt, oranges are the most important citrus crops for local consumption or export. It represents approximately 72.2% of the total Egyptian citrus production in 2019/2020. The main cultivated variety of orange is the Washington navel orange and it is more popular because of its delicious taste, nutrition, and its seedless besides being rich in vitamin C. Washington navel orange is susceptible to fruit cracking, and it is a common physiological disorder that takes place during fruit development. This work aims to investigate the negative effect of fruit cracking in reducing the yield and quality of Washington navel orange produced in Egypt by studying major economic indicators and estimating an economical evaluation of using treatment of Washington navel orange during the period time of 2007/2008 until 2019/2020. Results showed that fruit areas and production of Washington navel orange represented about 52.9% and 53.2% of fruit areas and production of orange during the study period. However, the yield was unstable with a significant annual growth rate of about 1.1%. Also, the last mentioned treatment achieved a high price for farmers by about 5.1% and total revenue of about 3.2% during the study period. Nowadays, Egypt has become the largest exporter of oranges in the world within the last year and the achieved earnings reached $661 million in 2019/2020. In addition, results showed that evaluation of using a treatment to reduce the rate of Washington navel orange cracking was economical to be applied.

Utilization of Small Size Bolti (<i>Talibia nilotica</i>) and Sardine (<i>Sardina pilchardus</i>) Fish in Preparing Canned Weaning Food Purees

Utilize small size of bolti and sardine fish in preparing fish based weaning foods rich in protein, essential amino acids, fat high in omega 3 fatty acids, minerals and vitamins was investigated. The proximate composition, nutritional value, physical and sensorial properties were evaluated, The results of the chemical composition showed that the moisture content of fish based weaning food purees ranged from 67.73% to 72.05%. On dry weight basis, the five prepared formulations considered rich in protein (37.39% - 44.86%), fat (26.55% - 30.43%), ash (6.53% - 12.23%) and low in carbohydrates (20.70% - 22.18%). Using fish bones with muscles in preparing weaning food puree caused a marked rise in its content of Ca, P, Fe, and Zn levels especially in purees formulated from bolti. Weaning food purees containing sardine fish rich, in fat, were higher in vitamin A and D than those formulated from bolti one. Palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), and myristic acid (C14:0) represented the major saturated fatty acids in the prepared formulations. Weaning food purees containing sardine fish had relatively higher levels of sulfur-containing amino acids and slight lower values of lysine, alanine and glycine than these including bolti fish. Analytical Solution for Acoustic Waves Propagation in Fluids

This paper presents a mathematical model of linear acoustic wave propagation in fluids. The benefits of a mathematical model over a normal mode analysis are first discussed, then the mathematical model for acoustic propagation in the test medium is developed using computer simulations. The approach is based on a analytical solution to the homogeneous wave equation for fluid medium. A good agreement between the computational presented results with published data.

Experimental Study of Acoustic Noise Correlation Technique for Passive Monitoring of Rails

The work presented in this paper aims at investigating the ability of acoustic noise correlation technique for railway infrastructure health monitoring. The principle of this technique is based on impulse responses reconstruction by correlation of random noise propagated in the medium. Since wheel-rail interaction constitutes a source of such noise, correlation technique could be convenient for detection of rail defects using only passive sensors. Experiments have been carried out on a 2 m-long rail sample. Acoustic noise is generated in the sample at several positions. Direct comparison between an active emission-reception response and the estimated noise correlation function has confirmed the validity of the equivalence relation between them. The quality of the reconstruction is shown to be strongly related to the spatial distribution of the noise sources. High sensitivity of the noise-correlation functions to a local defect on the rail is also demonstrated. However, interpretation of the defect signature is more ambiguous than when using classical active responses. Application of a spatiotemporal Fourier transform on data recorded with variable sensor-defect distances has allowed overcoming this ambiguity.

Influence of Nitrogen Fertilizer and Foliar Application of Salicylic Acid on Wheat

Two cemented plots experiments were carried out during the winter seasons of 2012/2013 and 2013/2014, Soil Salinity Laboratory, Alexandria, Egypt, to study the effect of three levels of salicylic acid (SA) (0, 50, 100 ppm) and three rates of nitrogen fertilizer (75, 100, 125 kg N/feddan) on yield and yield components of wheat (Sakha 93). The experimental design was split plot with four replicates. The results indicated that increasing nitrogen fertilizer rates resulted in significant increase in plant height (cm), number of grain/spike, number of spikes/m2, 1000 grain weight (gm), grain yield (gm/plot), straw yield (gm/plot), and biological yield (gm/plot). Increasing salicylic acid rates resulted in significant increase in all the previous characters, in addition to grain weight/spike (gm). The interactions had no significant effect on the studied characters. The path analysis revealed that 1000 grain weight was the most important character with direct effect of 0.54 followed by number of spikes/m2 with direct effect of 0.33 followed by number of grain/spike with direct effect of 0.16.

Optimization and Comparisons for Separation, Detection and Quantification of 12 Aminoglycosides Using 2 Chromatographic Conditions by LC-MS/MS

Aminoglycosides are a family of antibiotics with important applications in veterinary medicine. Their ionic character, the similarity structures and the high polarity due to the presence of two or more amino and hydroxyl groups cause a difficulty in separation and make these compounds poorly retained on the reversed phase column. An analytical method for the separation and detection of 12 aminoglycosides has been optimized using two kinds of chromatographic conditions (HILIC, Ion pairing). In Hydrophilic Interaction, ZIC_HILIC column was used, by which the following parameters for the mobile phase were evaluated: concentration of ammonium acetate buffer, percentage of formic acid and effect of acid type. The maximum and adequate concentration of ammonium acetate for the majority of analytes was set to 30 mM. The percentage 0.1% of formic acid increases the response for the majority of analytes. On the other side, the use of 0.1% of trifluoroacetic acid improves the response when compared with the response obtained with 0.1% of formic acid except for Spectinomycin Dihydrostreptomycin and Streptomycin. For ion pairing chromatography, the concentration of pentafluoropropionic acid was tested and the greatest value appeared to be 9.2 mM. Therefore, the comparison between the two separation methods shows that the response area of the majority of analytes tested increases when using the ion pair mode. Also, the high value of S/N and the lower detection limit (5 - 15 μg m·L﹣1 for most aminoglycosides studied make the ion pairing method more preferable than HILIC interaction.

Global warming has become a global challenge having dire consequences on different aspects of the environment due to the melting of glaciers, excess carbon dioxide (CO2), and excess warming of water bodies among others. At a faster pace recently, climate change is affecting the marine environment, causing numerous alterations. Here, we address its consequences and the numerous alterations, which are more vital for researchers and global agencies to advocate more on why it’s essential to lessen the impact of climate change. Our review showed that the impacts of climate change are articulated at several stages of the marine ecosystem where it affects the inhabitants and their habitats. In response to climate change (ocean warming) marine species shift their latitudinal range to find suitable conditions leading to the redistribution of species. In addition, we found that growth reduction, sub-optimal behaviors, and reduced immune-competence of marine organisms, are as a result of thermal stress due to climate change. Also, the periodic changes in temperature above or below the optimum have a meditative reproductive effect on marine species, including fish. Finally, we discovered that due to higher water temperatures, several diseases showcase greater virulence in the sense that the marine species become less resistant to these diseases due to stress, increased virulence stimuli, or increased transmission.

Wastewater Decontamination from Microorganisms by Electrospraying Corona Discharge

A novel water treatment technique, based on a combination of electrospraying and pulsed corona discharge, has been used for bio-decontamination of wastewater. The electrospraying process has been found to increase the surface area of the treated wastewater, and hence increases the efficiency of the corona treatment process. The phase diagram of the discharge, which characterizes the discharge regimes, has been identified experimentally. The survival ratio of the microorganisms has been investigated experimentally as a function of the applied voltage and the numbers of treatment runs using air and oxygen as working gases. Microorganism surface has been examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM), which enabled in understanding the decontamination mechanisms of the treated microorganism. A complete decontamination has been achieved after only one run for an applied voltage higher than 16 kV when the discharge system was operated in oxygen gas. Optical emission spectrum of the electrosprayed water confirmed the existence of OH-radicals responsible for decontamination process.
