Melatonin is a versatile indolamine synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland in response to the photoperiodic information received by the retinohypothalamic signaling *** has many benefits,such as organizing circadian rhythms and acting as a powerful *** aimed to show the antitumor effects of melatonin in both in vivo and in vitro models through the mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)signaling pathway and the Argyrophilic Nucleolar Regulatory Region(AgNOR),using the Microcomputed Tomography(Micro CT).Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC)cells were administered into the mice by subcutaneous *** with solid tumors were injected intraperitoneally with 50 and 100 mg/kg melatonin for 14 *** measurements for the taken tumors were made with micro-CT imaging,immunohistochemistry(IHC),real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and ***,the tumor tissue volume in the Tumor+100 mg/kg melatonin group was significantly lower than that in the other groups in the data obtained from micro-CT *** the IHC analysis,the groups treated with Tumor+100 mg/kg melatonin were compared when the mTOR signaling pathway and factor 8(F8)expression were compared with the control *** was determined that there was a significant decrease(p<0.05).Significant differences were found in the total AgNOR area/nuclear area(TAA/NA)ratio in the treatment groups(p<0.05).Furthermore,there were significant differences between the amount of mTOR mRNA for the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K),AKT Serine/Threonine Kinase(PKB/AKT)genes(p<0.05).Cell apoptosis was evaluated with Annexin V in an in vitro study with different doses of melatonin;It was observed that 100µg/mL melatonin dose caused an increase in the apoptotic cell *** this study,we have reported anti-tumor effects of melatonin in cell culture studies as well as in mice *** characterization of the melatonin-mediated cancer inhibitory effects will be valuable in advanc

This study was designed to investigate whether Petroselinum crispum(PC)extract has protective effects on the brain in the scopolamine-induced Alzheimer’s disease(AD)rat *** rats were divided into;control,scopolamine(1 mg/kg,i.p.),galantamine(1.5 mg/kg,i.p.)and PC extract(2 g/kg,p.o.)-treated scopolamine *** day 14,the novel object recognition test(NORT)and Morris water maze test(MWMT)were performed and then the rats were ***-induced cognitive impairments observed in the NORT and MWMT,significantly improved with PC extract and galantamine *** reduced M_(1) receptor expression,Bcl-2/Bax ratio,and glutathione levels in the hippocampus and frontal cortex,while malondialdehyde levels,caspase-3/9 expressions,and acetylcholinesterase(AChE)activity were found to be *** the other hand,PC and galantamine treatments reversed these *** conclusion,PC extract has shown an ameliorative effect on the spatial and recognition memory,M_(1) receptor expression,apoptosis,oxidative stress,and increased AChE ***,it was concluded that PC could prevent AD-like conditions and can be used as a functional ***,since animal models do not completely mimic those of humans,based on the data obtained in this study,the importance of PC on human AD should be demonstrated in future studies.

Dynamic Recrystallization Behavior of a Fe-Cr-Ni Super-Austenitic Stainless Steel

The super-austenitic stainless steels are extensively utilized in the seamless tubes production for oil extraction industries. Due to the importance of thermo-mechanical processing in the production of these tubes, the dynamic recrystallization （DRX） characteristics of a Cr-Ni super austenitic stainless steel （1.4563） were investigated in the present study. This was performed using the hot compression testing method in the temperature range of 950-1150℃ and the strain rate of 10^-3-10^-1 s^-1. The initiation and evolution of DRX were examined through microstructural analysis. The results indicated that the recrystallized grain formed a necklace type structure at the prior austenite grain boundaries at higher strain rates. In addition, DRX nucleation occurs by bulging and successive strain induced boundary migration （SIBM）.

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)-based therapy has displayed some promises in ischemia heart diseases although its efficacy may be affected by changes in surrounding *** study evaluated the role of autophagy insuf-ficiency using Beclin1 haploinsufficiency(BECN^(+/−))on intra-myocardial MSC transplantation-evoked effect against myocardial *** MSCs from C57BL/6 mice were labelled with cell-tracker CM Dil and were delivered into LV free wall adjacent to infarct region in wild-type(WT)and BECN^(+/−) recipient mice following ligation of left main coronary artery(MI-MSCs).Ten days following MI,myocardial function was assessed using *** contractility and intracellular Ca^(2+) were monitored using cardiomyocytes from the area-at-risk adjacent to ***-Dil labeled cells were tracked in MSCs recipient mice using fluorescence ***,Masson trichrome staining and Western blot analysis were employed to determine cardiomyocyte area,scar fibrosis,apoptosis and *** insult triggered scar fibrosis,LV chamber dilation,decreased fractional shortening,ejection fraction,cardiomyocyte shortening,maximal velocity of shortening and relengthening as well as prolonged relength-ening,which were abrogated or attenuated by MSCs therapy in WT but not BECN^(+/−)*** decreased intracellular Ca^(2+) rise and decay in response to electrical stimuli without affecting resting intracellular Ca^(2+),which were reconciled by MSCs in WT but not BECN^(+/−) *** further attenuated MI-induced mitochondrial ultrastructural injury,apoptosis,inflammation and autophagy defects in periinfarct area in WT but not BECN^(+/−)***,our results suggested that autophagy insufficiency dampened in MSCs-elicited cardioprotection associated with dampened apoptosis and inflammation.

2-D delineation of individual citrus trees from UAV-based dense photogrammetric surface models

One of the challenges of remote sensing and computer vision lies in the three-dimensional(3-D)reconstruction of individual trees by using automated methods through very high-resolution(VHR)data ***,a successful and complete 3-D reconstruction relies on precise delineation of the trees in two *** this paper,we present an original approach to detect and delineate citrus trees using unmanned aerial vehicles based on photogrammetric digital surface models(DSMs).The symmetry of the citrus trees in a DSM is handled by an orientationbased radial symmetry transform which is computed in a unique ***,we propose an efficient strategy to accurately build influence regions of each tree,and then we delineate individual citrus trees through active contours by taking into account the influence region of each *** also present two efficient strategies to filter out erroneously detected canopy regions without having any height *** are carried out on eight test DSMs composed of different types of citrus orchards with varying densities and canopy *** comparisons to the state-of-the-art approaches reveal that our proposed approach provides superior detection and delineation performances through supporting a nice balance between precision and recall measures.

This paper presents a standard scalable and reconfigurable design for testability (SR DfT) in order to increase ac- cessibility to deeply embedded A/MS cores and to limit application of costly off-chip mixed-signal testers. SR DfT is an oscilla- tion-based wrapper compatible with digital embedded core-based SoC test methodologies. The impact of the optimized oscilla- tion-based wrapper design on MS SoC testing is evaluated in two directions: area and test time. Experimental results are presented for several SoCs from the ITC’02 test benchmarks with inclusion of eight analog filters.

Oxidative stress and stress signaling: menace of diabetic cardiomyopathy

Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in the diabetic population and is currently one of the leading causes of death in the United States and other industrialized countries. The health care expenses associated with cardiovascular disease are staggering, reaching more than US$350 billion in 2003. The risk factors for cardiovascular disease include high fat/cholesterol levels, alcoholism, smoking, genetics, environmental factors and hypertension, which are commonly used to gauge an individual's risk of cardiovascular disease and to track their progress during therapy. Most recently, these factors have become important in the early prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Oxidative stress, the imbalance between reactive oxygen species production and breakdown by en- dogenous antioxidants, has been implicated in the onset and progression of car- diovascular diseases such as congestive heart failure and diabetes-associated heart dysfunction (diabetic cardiomyopathy). Antioxidant therapy has shown promise in preventing the development of diabetic heart complications. This review focuses on recent advances in oxidative stress theory and antioxidant therapy in diabetic cardiomyopathy, with an emphasis on the stress signaling pathways hypothesized to be involved. Many of these stress signaling pathways lead to activation of reactive oxygen species, major players in the development and progression of diabetic cardiomyopathy.

The number of intracorneal ring segments in asymmetric and central cones

Background:To compare the results of single versus double intracorneal ring segment(ICRS)(KeraRing)implantation in keratoconus with respect to different cone ***:Twenty-two eyes of 18 patients with totally asymmetric cones(20-80%or 0-100%distribution along steep axis)were implanted with single ICRS(Group 1),38 eyes of 32 patients with central or partially asymmetric cones(50-50%or 40-60%distribution along steep axis)were implanted with double ICRS(Group 2),at a depth of 80%of the site of implantation,in channels created with femtosecond laser *** patients had uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuities(UDVA and CDVA,respectively)of≤0.3 Snellen ***:In both groups,patients had median UDVA and CDVA gain of 3 Snellen lines(P>0.05).Postoperative improvement in indices of vertical asymmetry and height decentration in Group 1;simulated keratometry,corneal astigmatism and anterior corneal asphericity values in Group 2 were greater(P<0.05).A total of 10 eyes(45.5%)in Group 1 were recommended double ring implantation by the manufacturer’s nomogram,but underwent single ICRS implantation and achieved visual,refractive,tomographic outcomes comparable to that in Group 2,although corneal cylindrical correction was less and final topographic astigmatism was ***:Double ICRS implantation seems to be superior in terms of keratometry,corneal astigmatism and anterior corneal asphericity *** ICRS implantation in totally asymmetric cones seems to provide satisfactory visual,refractive and tomographic results,similar to double ICRS implantation in central and partially asymmetric cones,by inducing central shift of the cone.
