To comprehensively support national and international initiatives for sustainable development,land cover products need to be reliably and routinely generated within operational *** with consistent semantics and taxonomies,ensuring confidence in mapping land cover for multiple time periods,facilitates informed decision-making at scales appropriate to multiple policy *** United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation(FAO)Land Cover Classification System(LCCS)provides a taxonomy that comparable at different scales,level of detail and geographic *** Open Data Cube(ODC)initiative offers a framework for operational continental-scale land cover mapping using analysis-ready Earth Observation *** study utilised the FAO LCCS framework and the Landsat sensor data through Digital Earth Australia(DEA;Australia’s ODC instance)to generate consistent and continent-wide land cover mapping(DEA Land Cover)of the Australian *** Land Cover provides annual maps from 1988 to 2020 at 25 m *** maps were validated with∼12,000 independent validation points,giving an overall map accuracy of 80%.DEA Land Cover provides Australia with a nationally consistent picture of land cover,with an open-source software package using readily available global coverage data and demonstrates a pathway of adoption for national implementations across the world.

Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy in women and is second to lung cancer in terms of cancer mortality. Treatment of BC remains a challenge as current therapies are limited by toxicity and drug resistance. Graviola (Annona muricata) is a tree that grows in the tropics of North and South America. Traditionally, the leaves and stems from the graviola tree have been used for a wide range of human diseases including cancer.?In vitro?and?in vivo?studies demonstrate anticancer activity in BC however clinical studies are lacking. We present the first case demonstrating clinical benefit without side effects using graviola in a patient with BC whose disease was refractory to multiple lines of chemotherapy including anthracyclines and taxanes.

Biomimetic stimulation of the retina with neurotransmitters,the natural agents of communication at chemical synapses,could be more effective than electrical stimulation for treating blindness from photoreceptor degenerative *** studies have demonstrated the feasibility of neurotransmitter stimulation by injecting glutamate,a primary retinal neurotransmitter,into the retina at isolated single ***,we demonstrate spatially patterned multisite stimulation of the retina with glutamate,offering the first experimental evidence for applicability of this strategy for translating visual patterns into afferent neural *** accomplish pattern stimulation,we fabricated a special microfluidic device comprising an array of independently addressable microports connected to tiny on-chip glutamate reservoirs via *** device prefilled with glutamate was interfaced with explanted rat retinas placed over a multielectrode array(MEA)with the retinal ganglion cells(RGC)contacting the electrodes and photoreceptor surface contacting the *** independently and simultaneously activating a subset of the microports with modulated pressure pulses,small boluses of glutamate were convectively injected at multiple sites in alphabet patterns over the photoreceptor *** found that the glutamate-driven RGC responses recorded through the MEA system were robust and spatially laid out in patterns strongly resembling the injection *** stimulations were also highly localized with spatial resolutions comparable to or better than electrical retinal *** findings suggest that surface stimulation of the retina with neurotransmitters in pixelated patterns of visual images is feasible and an artificial chemical synapse chip based on this approach could potentially circumvent the limitations of electrical retinal prostheses.

BACKGROUND Early hospital readmissions(EHRs)after kidney transplantation range in incidence from 18%-47%and are important and substantial healthcare quality *** can adversely impact clinical outcomes such as graft function and patient mortality as well as healthcare *** have been extensively studied in American healthcare systems,but these associations have not been explored within a Canadian *** to significant differences in the delivery of healthcare and patient outcomes,results from American studies cannot be readily applicable to Canadian populations.A better understanding of EHR can facilitate improved discharge planning and long-term outpatient management post kidney *** To explore the burden of EHR on kidney transplant recipients(KTRs)and the Canadian healthcare system in a large transplant *** This single centre cohort study included 1564 KTRs recruited from January 1,2009 to December 31,2017,with a 1-year *** defined EHR as hospitalizations within 30 d or 90 d of transplant discharge,excluding elective *** Cox and linear regression models were used to examine EHR,late hospital readmissions(defined as hospitalizations within 31-365 d for 30-d EHR and within 91-365 d for 90-d EHR),and outcomes including graft function and patient *** In this study,307(22.4%)and 394(29.6%)KTRs had 30-d and 90-d EHRs,*** such as having previous cases of rejection,being transplanted in more recent years,having a longer duration of dialysis pretransplant,and having an expanded criteria donor were associated with EHR *** cumulative probability of death censored graft failure,as well as total graft failure,was higher among the 90-d EHR group as compared to patients with no *** multivariable models found no significant association between EHR and patient mortality,patients with EHR were at an increased risk of late hospital readmissions,poorer kidney fun
