Molecular Determinants of Antibiotic Resistance in the Costa Rican Pseudomonas aeruginosa AG1 by a Multi-omics Approach:A Review of 10 Years of Study

Pseudomonas aeruginosa AG1(PaeAG1)is a Costa Rican strain that was isolated in 2010 in a major *** strain has resistance to multiple antibiotics such asβ-lactams(including carbapenems),aminoglycosides,and ***1 is considered critical(Priority 1)due to its resistance to carbapenems,and it was the first report of a *** isolate carrying both VIM-2 and IMP-18 genes encoding for metallo-β-lactamases(MBL)enzymes(both with carbapenemase activity).Owing to these traits,we have studied this model for 10 years using diverse approaches including *** this review,we summarize the main points of the different steps that we have studied in PaeAG1:preliminary analyses of this strain at the genomic and phenomic levels revealed that this microorganism has particular features of antibiotic *** the multi-omics approach,the genome assembly was the initial step to identify the genomic determinants of this strain,includ-ing virulence factors,antibiotic resistance genes,as well as a complex accessory ***,a comparative genomic approach was implemented to define and update the phylogenetic relationship among complete *** genomes,the genomic island content in other strains,and the architecture of the two MBL-carrying ***,the proteomic profile of PaeAG1 was studied after exposure to antibiotics using 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis(2D-GE).Fourth,to study the central response to multiple perturbations in ***,i.e.,the core perturbome,a machine learning approach was *** analysis revealed biological functions and determinants that are shared by different ***,to evaluate the effects of ciprofloxacin(CIP)on PaeAG1,a growth curve comparison,differential expression analysis(RnA-Seq),and network analysis were *** the results of the core perturbome(pathways that also were found in this perturbation with CIP),it was possible to identify the“exclusive”response and determina

Cutting-edge technologies are extremely useful to develop new workflows in studying ecological data,particularly to understand animal behavior and movement trajectories at the individual *** parental care is a well-studied phenomenon,most studies have been focused on direct observational or video recording data,as well as experimental ***,what happens out of our sight still remains *** high-frequency GPS/GSM dataloggers and tri-axial accelerometers we monitored 25 Bonelli’s eagles Aquila fasciata during the breeding season to understand parental activities from a broader *** used recursive data,measured as number of visits and residence time,to reveal nest attendance patterns of biparental care with role specialization between *** data interpreted as the overall dynamic body acceleration,a proxy of energy expenditure,showed strong differences in parental effort throughout the breeding season and between ***,males increased substantially their energetic requirements,due to the increased workload,while females spent most of the time on the ***,during critical phases of the breeding season,a low percentage of suitable hunting spots in eagles’territories led them to increase their ranging behavior in order to find food,with important consequences in energy consumption and mortality *** results highlight the crucial role of males in raptor species exhibiting biparental ***,we exemplify how biologging technologies are an adequate and objective method to study parental care in raptors as well as to get deeper insight into breeding ecology of birds in general.

Phenol degradation experimental results are presented in a similar wastewater aqueous solution using a non-thermal plasma reactor in a coaxial dielectric barrier discharge. The novelty of the work is that one of the electrodes of the reactor has the shape of a hollow screw which shows an enhanced efficiency compared with a traditional smooth structure. The experimentation was carried out with gas mixtures of 90% Ar-10% O2, 80% At-20% 02 and 0% Ar-100% 02. After one hour of treatment the removal efficiency was 76%, 92%, and 97%, respectively, assessed with a gas chromatographic mass spectrometry technique. For both reactors used, the ozone concentration was measured. The screw electrode required less energy, for all gas mixtures, than the smooth electrode, to maintain the same ozone concentration. On the other hand, it was also observed that in both electrodes the electrical conductivity of the solution changed slightly from ,-0.0115 S m^-1 up to -0.0430 S m^-1 after one hour of treatment. The advantages of using the hollow screw electrode structure compared with the smooth electrode were：（1） lower typical power consumption, （2） the generation of a uniform plasma throughout the reactor benefiting the phenol degradation, （3） a relatively lower temperature of the aqueous solution during the process, and （4） the plasma generation length is larger.

Obesity and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis are increasing in westernized countries, regardless of their geographiclocation. In Latin America, most countries, including Mexico, have a heterogeneous admixture genome with Amerindian, European and African ancestries. However, certain high allelic frequencies of several nutrientrelated polymorphisms may have been achieved by past gene-nutrient interactions. Such interactions may have promoted the positive selection of variants adapted to regional food sources. At present, the unbalanced diet composition of the Mexicans has led the country to a 70% prevalence rate of overweightness and obesity due to substantial changes in food habits, among other factors. International guidelines and intervention strategies may not be adequate for all populations worldwide because they do not consider disparities in genetic and environmental factors, and thus there is a need for differential prevention and management strategies. Here, we provide the rationale for an intervention strategy for the prevention and management of obesity-related diseases such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis based on a regionalized genome-based diet. The components required to design such a diet should focus on the specific ancestry of each population around the world and the convenience of consuming traditional ethnic food.

Continuous room temperature nanowire lasing from silicon-integrated optoelectronic elements requires careful optimisation of both the lasing cavity Q-factor and population inversion *** apply time-gated optical interferometry to the lasing emission from high-quality GaAsP/GaAs quantum well nanowire laser structures,revealing high Q-factors of 1250±90 corresponding to end-facet reflectivities of R=0.73±*** using optimised direct-indirect band alignment in the active region,we demonstrate a well-refilling mechanism providing a quasifour-level system leading to multi-nanosecond lasing and record low room temperature lasing thresholds(~6μJ cm^(−2) pulse−1)for Ⅲ-Ⅴ nanowire *** findings demonstrate a highly promising new route towards continuously operating silicon-integrated nanolaser elements.
