Modeling antiphase boundary energies of Ni_(3)Al-based alloys using automated density functional theory and machine learning

Antiphase boundaries(APBs)are planar defects that play a critical role in strengthening Ni-based superalloys,and their sensitivity to alloy composition offers a flexible tuning parameter for alloy ***,we report a computational workflow to enable the development of sufficient data to train machine-learning(ML)models to automate the study of the effect of composition on the(111)APB energy in Ni_(3)Al-based *** employ ML to leverage this wealth of data and identify several physical properties that are used to build predictive models for the APB energy that achieve a cross-validation error of 0.033 J m^(−2).We demonstrate the transferability of these models by predicting APB energies in commercial ***,our use of physically motivated features such as the ordering energy and stoichiometry-based features opens the way to using existing materials properties databases to guide superalloy design strategies to maximize the APB energy.

Boulder block ramps are river engineering structures used to stabilise river beds. Block ramps provide a semi-natural and aesthetically pleasing solution to certain river engineering problems in mountain streams. When constructing block ramps,one can use the dissipative behaviour of large macroroughness elements randomly placed on the river bed to enhance fish migration in an upstream direction thus, in this sense, meeting the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive. Block ramps are often designed and constructed to replace damaged drop hydraulic structures in the channels of mountain streams. This paper investigates the resilience of a particular block ramp placed in the Krzczonówka stream(Polish Carpathians) in terms of the engineering design function and its durability against damaging. A hydrodynamic analysis of a block ramp is presented before and after a flood event that changed the configuration of the blocks. The seminatural unstructured hydraulic structure was built on the Krzczonowka stream to protect gas pipes which are located beneath it. As a result of several floods, the boulder block chute described in this paper was damaged, and some boulders were dislodged and transported downstream. Our post-flood investigations of bathymetry and velocity revealed that even damaged boulder blocks, removed from the chute and displaced downstream of the structure, still provide significant energy dissipation of the flowing water. The novel of our paper is for the first time showing very detailed analysis of unstructured block ramp hydrodynamics parameters done in the *** the novel finding of our investigations shows that before and after the flood event the unstructured block ramp structure, is still fish friendly in terms of hydrodynamics.

An important aspect in the restoration of longitudinal connectivity in rivers and streams is the implementation of fish migration systems at the upstream of the functional hydraulic structures(weirs,drop structures or river sills).The diversity of these existing structures as well as the different locations of these weirs within the river,watershed and riparian zone challenge the design engineers to find new holistic solutions for fish migration *** Azuga River study area requires a new synergistic fish migration design *** a mountain area,rapid increase in water level is quite frequent,especially after heavy or prolonged rainfalls and during spring snow ***,it is necessary to design a specific system for fish migration to meet this location’s *** to the characteristics in this location of the Azuga river,the classic fish migration systems would not be *** indigenous/mountain trout is considered as the target species in this *** this is a good swimming species,the use of classical systems could,due to exhaustion,prevent and/or reduce the movement of fish upstream of the two weirs(also known as river sills).This new,comprehensive solution,presented in this paper includes:(i)the restoration and stabilization works of the right bank in the weir study area by using biotechnical measures and(ii)the upstream migration system itself-for supporting the migration of fish on the Azuga River.

The abundances of trace elements,a low pH of water and soil in areas impacted by the acid mine drainage(AMD)may cause an excessive uptake of potentially toxic elements and nutritional imbalances in ***-tolerant,native plants are used for revegetation of degraded mining *** established levels of selected trace elements and stable sulfur isotopes in the above-ground plant biomass collected in a mining area in south-central *** 2016,20 samples of the most common species were collected from sites with a different influence of acid mine drainage and analyzed for trace elements by the inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry *** the basis of the results obtained in 2016,the most contaminated site was selected for a more detailed study,in which sulfur contents and stable sulfur isotope ratios were determined together with trace elements in 17 *** results confirmed that the plants native to the AMD area efficiently accumulated trace elements,especially As and rare earth *** showed the highest content of trace elements,but exhibited the lowest concentrations of sulfur accompanied by the highestδ34S *** has been shown for the first time that stable sulfur isotope composition of AMD plants in south-central Poland is significantly depleted in the 34S isotope showing an averageδ34 S value of–10.5‰in comparison with positiveδ34S values in local vegetation growing outside the AMD area and in local precipitation.

BACKGROUND Mucinous cystic neoplasm of the liver(MCN-L)and intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct(IPN-B)are two different types of mucin-producing bile duct tumour that may complicate the course of *** the best of our knowledge,we describe herein the first case of MCN-L with spontaneous rupture during pregnancy necessitating complex surgical *** SUMMARY A 24-year-old woman was initially admitted to another hospital in October 2018 with signs of jaundice(serum bilirubin level 12 mg/dL)and upper abdominal pain radiating to the left *** magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)of the abdominal cavity revealed a multilocular cystic tumour of the liver hilum(37 mm×40 mm in diameter)located between segments 3 and 4 of the left liver *** weeks later(December 2018),the patient was found to be 12 wk pregnant and was referred to our institution for further diagnostics and *** admission,a soft,palpable,and tender mass in the left upper abdomen was *** was determined via MRI(with no intravenous contrast in view of the first-trimester pregnancy)to be a large collection of fluid(19 cm×17 cm×10 cm)located close to the liver hilum and below the left liver *** patient did not undergo any diagnostic or therapeutic procedures nor did they have any abdominal trauma in the preceding *** fluid collection proved to be of biliary origin following percutaneous ***,we concluded this was a spontaneous rupture of an MCN-L with the formation of a *** MRI study also revealed the previously found cystic tumour of the liver hilum communicating with the left hepatic duct,which,together with left hepatic duct dilatation,suggested the diagnosis of *** follow-up MRI with intravenous gadolinium contrast performed in the second trimester of pregnancy(week 14)showed,in turn,some features of MCN-L,including enhancement of the internal septations within the cystic liver mass.A precise preoperative differential diagnos
