Utilization of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis of pes planus and pes cavus with a smartphone camera

BACKGROUND Pes planus(flatfoot)and pes cavus(high arch foot)are common foot deformities,often requiring clinical and radiographic assessment for diagnosis and potential subsequent *** diagnostic methods,while effective,pose limitations such as cost,radiation exposure,and accessibility,particularly in underserved *** To develop deep learning algorithms that detect and classify such deformities using smartphone *** An algorithm that integrated a deep convolutional neural network(CNN)into a smartphone camera was utilized to detect pes planus and pes cavus *** case control study was conducted at a tertiary hospital with participants recruited from two orthopaedic foot and ankle *** CNN was trained and tested using photographs of the medial aspect of participants’feet,taken under standardized *** included subjects with standard foot alignment,pes planus,or pes cavus determined by an expert clinician using the foot posture *** model’s performance was assessed in comparison to clinical assessment and radiographic measurements,specifically lateral tarsal-first metatarsal angle and calcaneal inclination *** The CNN model demonstrated high accuracy in diagnosing both pes planus and pes cavus,with an optimized area under the curve of 0.90 for pes planus and 0.90 for pes *** showed a specificity and sensitivity of 84%and 87%for pes planus detection,respectively;and 97%and 70%for pes cavus,*** model’s prediction correlated moderately with radiographic lateral Meary’s angle measurements,indicating the model’s excellent reliability in assessing food arch deformity(P<0.05).CONCLUSION This study highlights the potential of using a smartphone-based CNN model as a screening tool that is reliable and accessible for the detection of pes planus and pes cavus deformities,which is especially beneficial for underserved communities and patients with pain generated by subtle foot ar

Merging bound states in the continuum in an open acoustic resonator

Bound states in the continuum （BICs） are perfectly localized resonances despite embedding in the continuum ***,an isolated BIC is very sensitive to the structure ***,we report merging acoustic BICs in a single open resonator,robust against the structure *** find that both symmetry-protected BIC and Friedrich-Wintgen BIC are sustained in a single coupled waveguide-resonator *** varying the height and length of the resonator,these two BICs move toward each other and merge into a single one at a critical *** to an individual BIC,the merged BIC is robust against fabrication error because its Q-factor is proportional to ΔL-4,whereΔL embodies the structure *** essence of this extraordinary phenomenon is perfectly explained by the two-and three-level approximations of the effective nonHermitian ***,we present direct experimental demonstrations of the moving and merging of BICs in a coupled 3D waveguide-resonator,which are evidenced by the vanishing of the linewidth of Fano resonance in the transmission *** results may find exciting applications in designing high-quality acoustic sources,sensors and filters.

Longitudinal dependence of the forecast accuracy of the ionospheric total electron content in the equatorial zone

The longitudinal dependence of the behavior of ionospheric parameters has been the subject of a number of works where significant variations are *** also applies to the prediction of the ionospheric total electron content(TEC),which neural network methods have recently been widely ***,the results are mainly presented for a limited set of *** paper examines the longitudinal dependence of the TEC forecast accuracy in the equatorial *** this case,the methods are used that provided the best accuracy on three meridians:European(30°E),Southeastern(110°E)and American(75°W).Results for the stations considered are analyzed as a function of longitude using the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Global Ionosphere Map(JPL GIM)for *** results are for 2 h ahead and 24 h ahead *** was found that in this case,based on the metric values,three groups of architectures can be *** first group included long short-term memory(LSTM),gated recurrent unit(GRU),and temporal convolutional networks(TCN)models as a part of unidirectional deep learning models;the second group is based on the recurrent models from the first group,which were supplemented with a bidirectional algorithm,increasing the TEC forecasting accuracy by 2-3 *** third group,which includes the bidirectional TCN architecture(BiTCN),provided the highest *** this architecture,according to data obtained for 9 equatorial stations,practical independence of the TEC prediction accuracy from longitude was observed under the following metrics(Mean Absolute Error MAE,Root Mean Square Error RMSE,Mean Absolute Percentage Error MAPE):MAE(2 h)is 0.2 TECU approximately;MAE(24 h)is 0.4 TECU approximately;RMSE(2 h)is less than 0.5 TECU except Niue station(RMSE(2 h)is 1 TECU approximately);RMSE(24 h)is in the range of 1.0-1.7 TECU;MAPE(2 h)<1%except Darwin station,MAPE(24 h)<2%.This result was confirmed by data from additional 5 stations that formed latitudinal chains in the

Numerical Investigation of Effect of Porosity and Fuel Inlet Velocity on Diffusion Filtration Combustion

Methane-air diffusion filtration combustion in a radiative round-jet burner was numerically investigated in this *** purpose of this study was focused on the effects of porous media porosity and gas velocity on temperature distribution and CO and NO_(x)*** chemical kinetics was used where air and methane were assumed to be at their stoichiometric ratio,while thermo-physical properties were varied per the solid matrix porosity *** characteristics were evaluated based on conduction and radiation as the two primary heat transfer modes within the solid *** simulations were carried out based on a packed bed with 3 mm alumina *** show that combustion temperature increases while the temperature gradient decreases with the increase in porosity,yielding higher NO_(x),and lower CO ***,the combustion temperature is the lowest and most uniformly distributed with 1 m/s and 3 m/s gas velocities,wherewith 3 m/s gas velocity,combustion occurs outside of the porous *** corresponding NO_(x)and CO emissions are the lowest with 1 m/s gas velocity and increase with the increase in gas velocity from 1 m/s to 10m/s.

First-principles techniques for electronic transport property prediction have seen rapid progress in recent ***,it remains a challenge to predict properties of heterostructures incorporating fabrication-dependent ***-learning(ML)approaches are increasingly being used to accelerate design and discovery of new materials with targeted properties,and extend the applicability of first-principles techniques to larger ***,few studies exploited ML techniques to characterize relationships between local atomic structures and global electronic transport *** this work,we propose an electronictransport-informatics(ETI)framework that trains on ab initio models of small systems and predicts thermopower of fabricated silicon/germanium heterostructures,matching measured *** demonstrate application of ML approaches to extract important physics that determines electronic transport in semiconductor heterostructures,and bridge the gap between ab initio accessible models and fabricated *** anticipate that ETI framework would have broad applicability to diverse materials classes.

Testing of new ionospheric models along the meridian 110°E over the Northern Hemisphere

Despite the continuous improvement of the widely used empirical model international reference ionosphere(IRI),the recently appeared new models must be tested *** along the meridians has the advantage of dealing with the latitudinal dependent *** paper uses new models of parameters foF2(critical frequency),TEC(total electron content),andτ(equivalent slab thickness of the ionosphere),which are of great importance for evaluating the effects of space ***-Plas,NNT2F2,and NTSM models were tested using data from 6 ionosondes located along the meridian 110°E in March *** is shown that the IRI-Plas model provides the closest values to experiment with respect toτ,while the NTSM model provides a rather limited reflection of the latitude *** of foF2(NNT2F2)have shown that,the NNT2F2 model provides good conformity with experimental values in this area,but it is very dependent on the TEC processing *** latitudinal dependences of foF2 obtained with TEC and polynomial dependenceτ(Appr)showed the presence of positive deviations from medians not only during disturbances but also quiet periods,longitudinally at the meridian.

Singular integrals in axisymmetric problems of elastostatics

Singular integral equations arisen in axisymmetric problems of elastostatics are under consideration in this *** equations are received after applying the integral transformation and Gauss-Ostrogradsky’s theorem to the Green tensor for equilibrium equations of the infinite isotropic ***,three-dimensional problems expressed in Cartesian coordinates are transformed to cylindrical ones and integrated with respect to the circumference ***,the three-dimensional axisymmetric problems are reduced to systems of one-dimensional singular integral equations requiring the evaluation of linear integrals *** thorough analysis of both displacement and traction kernels is accomplished,and similarity in behavior of both kernels is *** kernels are expressed in terms of complete elliptic integrals of first and second *** second kind elliptic integrals are nonsingular,and standard Gaussian quadratures are applied for their numerical *** of external integrals proved the existence of logarithmic and Cauchy’s *** numerical treatment of these integrals takes into account the presence of this integrable *** numerical examples are provided to testify accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method including integrals with logarithmic singularity,Catalan’s constant,the Gaussian surface *** comparison between analytical and numerical data has proved high precision and availability of the proposed method.
