Plant infection by two different viruses induce contrasting changes of vectors fitness and behavior

Insect-vectored plant viruses can induce changes in plant phenotypes,thus influencing plant-vector interactions in a way that may promote their dispersal according to their mode of transmission (i.e.,circulative ***).This indirect vector manipulation requires host-virus-vector coevolution and would thus be effective solely in very specific plant-virus-vector species *** studies suggest this manipulation may depend on multiple factors relative to various intrinsic characteristics of vectors such as transmission *** anintegrative study,we tested the effects of infection of the Brassicaceae Camelina sativa with the noncirculative Cauliflower mosaic virus (CamV)or the circulative Turnip yellows virus (TuYV)on the host-plant colonization of two aphid species differing in their virus transmission efficiency:the polyphagous myzus persicae,efficient vector of both viruses,and the Brassicaceae specialist Brevicoryne brassicae,poor vector of TuYV and efficient vector of *** confirmed the important role of virus mode of transmission as plant-mediated effects of CamV on the two aphid species induced negative alterations of feeding behavior (i.e.,decreased phloem sap ingestion)and performance that were both conducive for virus fitness by promoting dispersion after a rapid *** addition,virus transmission efficiency may also play a role in vector manipulation by viruses as only the responses of the efficient vector to plant-mediated effects of TuYV,that is,enhanced feeding behavior and performances,were favorable to their acquisition and further ***,this work demonstrated that vector transmission efficiency also has to be considered when studying the mechanisms underlying vector manipulation by *** results also re- inforce the idea that vector manipulation requires coevolution between plant,virus and vector.

Comparison of Deep Learning Architectures for Late Blight and Early Blight Disease Detection on Potatoes

Potato late blight and early blight are common hazards to the long-term production of potatoes, impacting many farmers around the world, particularly in Africa. Early detection and treatment of the potato blight disease are critical for promoting healthy potato plant growth and ensuring adequate supply and food security for the fast-growing population. As a result, machine-driven disease detection systems may be able to overcome the constraints of traditional leaf disease diagnosis procedures, which are generally time-consuming, inaccurate, and costly. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have been shown to be effective in a variety of agricultural applications. CNNs have been shown to be helpful in detecting disease in plants because of their capacity to analyze vast volumes of data quickly and reliably. However, the method hasn’t been widely used in the detection of potato late blight and early blight diseases, which reduce yields significantly. The goal of this study was to compare six cutting-edge CNN architectural models, taking into account transfer learning for training and four hyperparameters. The CNN architectures evaluated were AlexNet, GoogleNet, SqueezeNet, DenseNet121, EfficientNet b7, and VGG19. Likewise, the hyperparameters analyzed were the number of epochs, the batch size, the optimizer, and the learning rate. An open-source dataset containing 4082 images was used. The DenseNet121 architecture with a batch of 32 and a Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) optimizer with a learning rate of 0.01 produced the best performance, with an accuracy of 98.34% and a 97.37% f1-score. The DenseNet121 model was shown to be useful in developing computer vision systems that aid farmers in improving their disease management systems for potato cultivation.

Effects of springs on a pendulum electromechanical energy harvester

This paper studies a model of energy harvester that consists of an electromechanical pendulum system subjected to nonlinear springs. The output power is analyzed in terms of the intrinsic parameters of the device leading to optimal parameters for energy harvesting. It is found that in an appropriate range of the springs constant, the power attains higher values as compared to the case without springs. The dynamical behavior of the device shows transition to chaos.

Soil chemical fertility change over four decades in the morvan mountains and influence of tree species (Burgundy, France)

Background: Intensive silvicultural practices and the planting of monospecific forests of coniferous, that are more productive compared to hardwoods may threaten over the mid to long-term the sustainability of soil chemical fertility of forest ecosystems, and are a major concern for forest managers and ***: We investigated the tree species effect(Quercus sessiliflora Smith, Fagus sylvatica L., Picea abies Karst.,Pseudotsuga menziesii mirb. Franco., Abies nordmanniana Spach. and Pinus nigra Arn. ssp. laricio Poiret var. corsicana) on the change over time of soil chemical properties and nutrient pool sizes in the mineral and organic layers of the soil during the 45 years after the plantation of the Breuil-Chenue common garden experiment(Burgundy,France). The organic and mineral soil layers down to 70-cm depth were sampled in the different monospecific plots in 1974, 2001 and ***: Exchangeable Ca and mg pools and soil pH increased on average over time in the 0–70 cm soil profile in most stands. However, in the topsoil layers(0–15 cm), the decrease of pH, the increase of exchangeable acidity over time under the coniferous stands and the decrease of exchangeable K pools in most stands highlighted that soil acidification is still on-going at Breuil-Chenue site but the intensity of this process depends on the tree ***, three groups of species could be distinguished: i) Nordmann fir(Abies nordmanniana Spach.)/Norway spruce(Picea abies Karst.) where acidolysis and chelation occurred, resulting in the most pronounced pH decrease in the topsoil, ii) Douglas fir(Pseudotsuga menziesii mirb.
