Critical review of the use and scientific basis of forensic gait analysis

The Fushe Kuqe costal aquifer is a typical confined alluvial *** aquifer medium consists of alternating and discontinuous layers of gravel and sand-gravel and silt-clay impermeable layers which have conditioned its multilayer *** aquifer recharge occurs mainly through water infiltration from the Mat river in the North,and from Droja river in the South,while its natural discharge proceeds to the Adriatic ***(Total Solids Dissolved)concentration varies from 200-500 mg/l in the North-Eastern area up to over 1,000 mg/l near the coastal *** a wide range of TDS values is also confirmed by high(11.89° dH)value of its standard *** HCO3-Ca-Mg and HCO3-Mg-Ca hydrochemical water types dominate in the eastern-north-eastern aquifer sectors,Na-Mg-HCO3-Cl,Na-Cl-HCO3 type in central-western area and,finally,Na-Cl type along the coastal parts of the *** of carbonates and sulphate minerals and silicate weathering seems to be the primary processes for the formation of the chemical composition of the ***-Alkaline Indices CAI-1 and Chadha’s classification diagram distinguished two groundwater compositional groups derived from water-medium chemical reactions and fresh groundwater-seawater mixture,respectively.

A Preliminary Geochemical and Isotopic Appraisal of Sea Water Intrusion in the Fushe Kuqe Aquifer(Northwestern Albania)

The Fushe Kuqe costal aquifer is a typical confined alluvial *** aquifer medium consists of sand-gravel and silt-clay layers intercalation which gave it a multilayer *** aquifer recharge occurs mainly by water infiltration from the Rver Mat in the North,and from River Droja in the *** water flow direction is from northeast to southwest and from southeast to northwest,discharging to the Adriatic *** on the chloride and TDS(Total Solids Dissolved)content in groundwater,an advancement of sea water intrusion into aquifer was *** direction of sea water wedge is from coastal south-western sectors towards the north-eastern *** No.6,8,9 and 10 show chloride concentrations over 100 mg/l and Na/Cl ratios less than 0.86 implying that the groundwater is impacted by sea water ***(Simpson Ratio)values of 1.15 and 1.09 for water sample No.8 and 10 are indications of a slight seawater influence,while groundwater of sample no.6 and 9 have SR values of 6.02 and 12.35 which are typical for a highly contamination by sea *** the points of sampled groundwater fall above the GMWl,indicating that they have suffered a preliminary evaporation before entering the aquifer,likely in the hydropower lakes of Ulza and Shkopet upstream the River Mat *** the narrow range ofδ18O andδ2H values(-6.80‰to-8.00‰and-54.00‰to 42.00‰,respectively),the points of sample No.6,8,9,10 fall on the fresh water-seawater mixing line,indicating the influence of the seawater intrusion.

Iron and Manganese in Groundwater of Rrogozhina Aquifer, Western Albania

This paper aims to advance previous studies on the iron and manganese content in groundwater of Rrogozhina aquifer （western Albania） and to show the factors which control the content of both iron and manganese in groundwater of this aquifer. Rrogozhina aquifer represents an important groundwater source of the country whose relevance was highly increased during recent years because of the demographic expansion in this region. This is a typically multi-layered artesian aquifer which consists of sandstone and conglomerate with high heterogeneous permeability. The groundwater mostly belongs to HCO3-Mg-Ca hydrochemical type. The content of soluble iron and manganese in groundwater ranges from 0.004 mg/l to 0.7 mg/l, and from 0.0 mg/l to 1.147 mg/l, respectively. Deeper the groundwater occurs and longer the distance from the recharge zone, higher is the content of Fe2＋ in groundwater due to gradual depletion of Oe in groundwater. The content of iron is higher than that WHO and EU recommended, which were 21% and 25% respectively, while the content of manganese were 17% and 23%, respectively. Abstraction of groundwater with high quantities by deeper wells would be accompanied by increase of dissolved iron and manganese content in groundwater which should be treated （with aeration） in order to decrease the content of these two elements in the water before using it.

Controllable synthesis of a hollow Cr2O3 electrocatalyst for enhanced nitrogen reduction toward ammonia synthesis

As a fascinating alternative to the energy-intensive Haber-Bosch process,the electrochemically-driven N_(2) reduction reaction(NRR)utilizing the N_(2) and H_(2)O for the production of NH3 has received enormous *** development and preparation of promising electrocatalysts are requisite to realize an efficient N_(2) conversion for NH3 *** this research,we propose a template-assisted strategy to construct the hollow electrocatalyst with controllable *** a paradigm,the hollow Cr_(2)O_(3) nanocatalyst with a uniform size(~170 nm),small cavity and ultrathin shell(~15 nm)is successfully fabricated with this *** promising hollow structure is favourable to trap N_(2) into the cavity,provides abundant active sites to accelerate the three-phase interactions,and facilitates the reactant transfer across the *** to these synergetic effects,the designed catalyst displays an outstanding behaviour in N_(2) fixation for NH3 production in ambient *** the neutral electrolyte of 0.1 mol·l^(-1) Na_(2)SO_(4),an impressive electrocatalytic performance with the NH3 generation rate of 2.72μg·h^(-1)·cm^(-2) and a high FE of 5.31%is acquired respectively at-0.85 V with the hollow Cr_(2)O_(3) *** by this work,it is highly expected that this approach could be applied as a universal strategy and extended to fabricating other promising electrocatalysts for realizing highly efficient nitrogen reduction reaction(NRR).

Does Hypothyroidism Cause Hyponatremia?

Background: According to most clinical guidelines hypothyroidism should be excluded as a cause in the analysis of euvolemic hyponatremia. Although this axiom has been well established in clinical practice, relatively little evidence supports a relation between hypothyroidism and hyponatremia. The current study was conducted to prove an association between hypothyroidism and the occurrence of hyponatremia. In addition, we sought to determine the effect of l-thyroxine replacement therapy on plasma sodium levels. Methods: Data from 2009 to 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. The database included blood samples in which both thyroid function and plasma sodium were determined. Regression analysis and ANOVA were performed to reveal an association between hypothyroidism and hyponatremia. Results: linear regression analysis of plasma sodium on plasma TSH revealed no relationship (R2 = 0.005). The corresponding gradient belonging to the regression line was ﹣0.427 mmol/log plasma TSH (p = 0.22). No significant relation between plasma sodium and TSH concentration could therefore be found. 32 hypothyroid patients who were treated with l-thyroxine, were identified. No clear change in plasma sodium could be discerned with regression analysis (0.707 mmol/l per year, p = 0.147). Conclusion: Hypothyroidism is not a common cause of hyponatremia. Screening for thyroid function does not seem warranted in the initial analysis of a hyponatremic patient.

Molecular Structure of Feeds in Relation to Nutrient Utilization and Availability in Animals： A Novel Approach

The invention and development of new research concepts, novel methodologies, and novel bioanalytical techniques are essential in advancing the animal sciences, which include feed and nutrition science. This article introduces a novel approach that shows the potential of advanced synchrotron-based bioanalytical technology for studying the effects of molecular structural changes in feeds induced by various treatments （e.g., genetic modification, gene silencing, heat-related feed processing, biofuel processing） in relation to nutrient digestion and absorption in animals. Advanced techniques based on synchrotron radiation （e.g., synchrotron radiation infrared microspectroscopy （SR-IMS） and synchrotron radiation X-ray techniques） have been developed as a fast, noninvasive, bioanalytical technology that, unlike traditional wet chemistry methods, does not damage or destroy the inherent molecular structure of the feed. The cutting-edge and advanced research tool of synchrotron light （which is a million times brighter than sunlight） can be used to explore the inherent structure of biological tissue at cellular and molecular levels at ultra-high spatial resolutions. In conclusion, the use of recently developed bioanalytical techniques based on synchrotron radiation along with common research techniques is leading to dramatic advances in animal feed and nutritional research.
