High Frequency Plant Regeneration from Leaf Derived Callus of Dianthus caryophyllusL.

An efficient procedure was developed for in vitro callus induction, proliferation and regeneration of carnation cultivar (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) using leaf, nodal and inter-nodal explants on Murashige and Skoog’s medium (MS) supplemented with exogenous plant growth regulators. For morphogenic callus induction and proliferation from various explants, MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l 2,4-D was highly efficient with 100% callus induction frequency from inter-nodal explants. Leaf explants showed quicker response than nodal and inter-modal explants, for callus initiation within 6 days of inoculation. Best grown callus was obtained from leaf explant. The leaf-derived callus was maintained up to several weeks, which indicated that 8-week incubation period was the most suitable for obtaining well proliferated, morphogenic callus. Temperature variation also affected the growth of in vitro induced morphogenic callus from various explants. Results have shown that 27°C proved to be the best temperature for morphogenic callus induction and proliferation from leaf and inter-nodal explants. Among the auxin-cytokinin combination, MS medium containing 1.0 mg/l N(6)-benzylaminopurin (BAP) and 2.0 mg/l NAA showed the highest efficiency of callus initiation and proliferation from leaf, nodal and inter-nodal explants. Light conditions proved better for callogenesis and proliferation from leaf, nodal and inter-nodal explants. Regeneration response from well grown morphogenic callus was prominent on MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l BAP alone and 1.0 mg/l NAA with 3.0 mg/l BAP.

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Management Course of Paediatric Rheumatic Diseases in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Bangladesh

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on every aspect of life. Like other chronic diseases, pediatric rheumatic diseases (PRDs) also faced unique challenges during the pandemic, including limited access to care, concerns regarding infection risk, drug shortages and social isolation. Objective: The objective of the study was to identify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the management course of children with rheumatic diseases. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the department of paediatrics, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka from April 2021 to March 2022. Two hundred and twenty patients were enrolled. A predesigned questionnaire was completed which included socio-demographic, clinical and laboratory parameters. Disease activity was assessed clinically and from laboratory profile. Data were calculated manually and by using SPSS version 22. Z-proportion test and chi square test were done when applicable. Results: Among the enrolled PRD cases 87.7% were Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), 7.7% were Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and 4.6% were other cases. Irregular follow-ups were found in 69.9% JIA cases, 82.4% SLE cases and 60% other PRD cases. Poor drug compliance was present in 18.2% of cases. A significant number of patients had higher disease activity or flare during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: During COVID-19 pandemic most (70.5%) of the PRD patients were irregular in their follow-ups. Poor drug compliance was also more than in the pre-COVID period. Disease activity status significantly worsened during this period.

Evaluation of Humic Acid Application Methods for Yield and Yield Components of Mungbean

A triplicate field experiment laid out in randomized complete block design was conducted to evaluate different humic acid (HA) application methods at Agricultural Research Farm, of KPK Agricultural University, Peshawar. Three methods of HA application: seed priming, foliar spray and soil application were included in the experiment. Humic acid application methods significantly affected pods plant-1, grains pod-1, 1000 grain weights, and grain yield whereas biological yield was not significantly affected by HA application methods. Humic acid application at the rate of 3 kg·ha-1 resulted in higher number of pods plant-1, thousand grain weights and grain yield, however it was statistically similar to the treatments where HA was soil applied at rate of 1 and 2 kg·ha-1, seed priming with 0% (water soaked), 1%, 2% HA solution and foliar spray with 0.01%, 0.05% and 0.1% of HA solution. It is concluded that HA application in all the three methods significantly enhances grain yield and yield components of mungbean.

为提高骨缺损修复的治疗效果,设计孔隙率为78.8%、70.8%、62.6%和54.4%的梯度多孔钛支架(分别表示为P1,P2,P3和P4),并通过选择性激光熔化技术进行制备。通过模拟和实验方法研究支架的成形性、显微组织、力学性能和渗透性能。模拟结果表明,4种梯度结构的最大等效应力和渗透性分别在569.1~1469.0MPa和(21.7~54.6)×10^(−9)m^(2)范围内,并且P3和P4具有更小的最大等效应力,表明P3和P4具有更高的强度。P3和P4结构支架的显微组织为α'马氏体,屈服强度和弹性模量分别为185.3~250.8MPa和6.1~9.7GPa。相比于P3结构支架,P4结构支架展现出更高的强度和与皮质骨更加匹配的弹性模量,并且其渗透性(18.6×10^(−9)m^(2))在人体骨组织渗透性范围内。因此,具有P4结构支架有望被应用于骨科植入领域。

Haematology of Pelophylax ridibundus(Amphibia: Ranidae) of Striataand MaculataMorphs in Populations Living in Conditions of Anthropogenic Pollution in Southern Bulgaria

Basic haematological parameters were studied in adult, sexually mature individuals of colour morphs (striata and maculata) in the populations of Pelophylax ridibundus living in biotopes with various degrees of anthropogenic pollution (control, domestic sewage pollution and heavy metal pollution) in Southern Bulgaria. We found that in the polluted biotopes in individuals of both morphs of P. ridibundus the blood parameters: erythrocyte (RBC) and leukocyte (WBS) count, haemoglobin concentration (Hb), haematocrit (PCV) were statistically reliably higher, the number of lymphocytes (Ly) decreased, and the parameters: mean cell haemoglobin (MCH), mean cell haemoglobin concentration (MCHC), mean cell volume (MCV) and differential blood formula changed considerably in comparison with the control group. In terms of anthropogenic pollution, the average values of RBC and Hb were higher in P. ridibundus of striata morph.

Catalyst assisted destruction of trichloro ethylene and toluene in corona discharges

Destruction of trichloro ethylene (C 2HCl 3) by pulsed corona discharge reactor packed with alumina pellets and in absence of packing was investigated. Higher conversion of C 2HCl 3 was observed in presence of alumina than in absence of packing. Furthermore CO/CO 2 ratio in the by products was found to shift in favor of CO 2 by alumina compared with absence of packing. Influence of catalyst porosity on C 2HCl 3 destruction and on by product ozone generation during the processing was also studied. Both alumina Ⅰ and alumina Ⅱ show similar improvement in C 2HCl 3 destruction. However, more important observation was that alumina Ⅰ produces higher by product ozone, while, alumina Ⅱ produces lower by product ozone, than in the case of no packing. The catalyst porosity effect was also investigated for destruction of toluene and was found to be similar. Intermediates of C 2HCl 3 destruction, as identified by GC MS, were COCl 2, CH 2Cl 2CHCl 3, CCl 4 and C 2HCl 5. In presence of alumina the amount of these intermediates was much reduced, indicating the catalytic function of alumina.

An integrated land change modeler and distributed hydrological model approach for quantifying future urban runoff dynamics

Climate and land use changes have a significant impact on the runoff generation process in urban environments, and these effects could get worse in the future. The combined contributions of these changes have increased the risk of ***, there is a need for integrated modeling to better understand the runoff variability, especially in small urban catchments. To quantify and separate the effects of land-use changes and climate change on the hydrological response of urban catchments with a distributed hydrological model(Storm Water Management Model, SWMM), this study introduces a new integrated approach based on the Machine Learning based land use change modeler and climate change scenarios under *** on supervised classification and land use change model analysis, accumulated impervious area increase from 22%(in2023) to 33%(in 2060) was observed in the study area. Furthermore, integrating this projected increase in imperviousness with future climate change into SWMM by considering three different scenarios i.e., S1(Climate Change), S2(Combined Land Use and Climate Change), and S3(Land use Change) resulted that climate change could cause an increase in runoff from 13.2% to18.3% in peak runoff and the contribution of land use could range from 9.1% to 18.6%. Similarly, in response to the coupled effects of climate and land-use change, the runoff would likely change from 24.53% to 39.66%. Conclusively, the study showed that despite climate change, intensive urban development by the substitution of impervious surfaces could also have a severe impact on the microclimate and hydrology of small catchments. Lastly, this study could provide a way forward for the future planning and management of water resources in small catchments which could be extended to larger catchments.

Phytochemical investigation of the whole plant of Commiphora mukul *** in the isolation of two lignans,epiexcelsin（1） and 5′-demethoxyepiexcelsin（2） which are reported for the first time from this *** structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was based on 1D and 2DNMR analysis and by the comparison with the published *** lignans 1 and 2 showed significant inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase with the IC50 of 59.8 ± 3.63455 μM and 75.2 ± 8.1616 μM *** also showed weak inhibitory potential against chymotrypsin with the IC50 of 110 ±0.025 μM and 649 ± 0.013 μM respectively.
