In eukaryotic cells, protein synthesis is a complex and multi-step process that has several mechanisms to start the translation including cap-dependent and cap-independent initiation. The translation control of eukaryotic gene expression occurs principally at the initiation step. In this context, it is critical that the eukaryotic translation initiation factor eIF4E bind to the 7-methylguanosine （m7G） cap present at the 5＇- UTRs of most eukaryotic mRNAs. Combined with other initiation factors, elF4E mediates the mRNA recruitment on ribosomes to start the translation. Moreover, the eIF4E nuclear bodies are involved in the export of specific mRNAs from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. In this review, we focus on the elF4E structure and its physiological functions, and describe the role of eIF4E in cancer development and progression and the current therapeutic strategies to target eIF4E.

Since the discovery of the presence of fibrillary forms ofα-synuclein(α-syn)in Lewy bodies(LB)and Lewy neurites in the brain of patients affected by Parkinson’s disease(Pd)and dementia with LB,great effort has been dedicated to study the features ofα-syn *** parallel,the pathological relevance of the different toxic forms ofα-syn has been also matter of *** the last twenty years,scientists have been able to single out thatα-syn fibrillation initiates pathological mechanisms that by contributing to or triggering neurodegeneration/neuroinflammation,may lead to Pd *** notwithstanding,we still ignore the reasons whyα-syn shifts from its natively unfolded conformation to toxic oligomeric and fibrillary *** chameleonic nature of monomericα-syn,and the extremely polymorphic characteristics of aggregated strains,renders it difficult to picture the real nature ofα-syn fibrils,their exact composition and formation ***,sophisticated biophysical methods and microscopy techniques have been exploited to studyα-syn ***,we provide an overview of the most relevant advancement in our understanding ofα-syn fibrils formation and conformation.

Previous work showed that a one-dimensional,hyperbolic,transient five-equation two-fluid model can predict automatically the formation,growth,and subsequent development of slugs in horizontal and near-horizontal *** method was implemented in a finite volume numerical scheme e called 5ESCARGOTS *** with experimental data showed that it can be used to predict the flow pattern and statistical characteristics(slug velocity,length,and frequency).However,the capabilities of this approach have been tested only for water-air flows in a straight horizontal *** this work,we validate the application of the code to some unconventional ***,we test the possibility of slug capturing approach to describe and predict the relevant features of air/high viscosity oils or air/non-Newtonian fluids *** between some slug characteristics and empirical correlations,available in literature,are ***,we move from simple geometries toward more complex conditions that may be representative of actual application cases,also employing high viscous oils as liquid *** against experimental data shows results in reasonable agreement.

The New Caledonia ophiolite(Peridotite Nappe)consists primarily of harzburgites,locally overlain by mafic-ultramafic cumulates,and minor spinel and plagioclase *** this study,a comprehensive geochemical data set(major and trace element,Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes)has been obtained on a new set of fresh harzburgites in order to track the processes recorded by this mantle section and its *** studied harzburgites are low-strain tectonites showing porphyroclastic textures,locally grading into protomylonitic *** exhibit a refractory nature,as attested by the notable absence of primary clinopyroxene,very high Fo content of olivine(91-93 mol.%),high Mg#of orthopyroxene(0.91-0.93)and high Cr#of spinel(0.44-0.71).The harzburgites are characterised by remarkably low REE concentrations(dritic values)and display"U-shaped"profiles,with steeply sloping HREE(dyN/YbN=0.07-0.16)and fractionated LREE-MREE segments(LaN/SmN=2.1-8.3),in the range of modern fore-arc *** modelling shows that the HREE composition of the harzburgites can be reproduced by multi-stage melting including a first phase of melt depletion in dry conditions(15%fractional melting),followed by hydrous melting in a subduction zone setting(up to 15%-18%).However,melting models fail to explain the enrichments observed for some FME(***,Sr,Pb),LREE-MREE and *** enrichments,coupled with the frequent occurrence of thin,undeformed films of Al2 O3,and CaO-poor orthopyroxene(Al2O3=0.88-1.53 wt.%,CaO=0.31-0.56 wt.%)and clinopyroxene with low Na2 O(0.03-0.16 wt.%),Al2 O3(0.66-1.35 wt.%)and TiO2(0.04-0.10 wt.%)contents,point to FME addition during fluid-assisted melting followed by late stage metasomatism most likely operated by subductionrelated melts with a depleted trace element *** isotopic ratios range from unradiogenic to radiogenic(-0.80di≤+13.32)and negatively correlate with Sr isotopes(0.70257≤87Sr/86Sr≤0.70770).Pb isotopes cover a wide range,trendi

In a previous work it has been shown that a one-dimensional,hyperbolic,transient five equations twofluid model is able to numerically describe stratified,wavy,and slug flow in horizontal and nearhorizontal *** statistical characteristics can be numerically predicted with results in good agreement with experimental data and well-known empirical *** this model some approximated and simplified assumptions are adopted to describe shear stresses at wall and at phase *** this paper,we focus on the possibility to account for the cross sectional flow by inserting shape factors into the momentum balance equations of the aforementioned *** profiles are obtained by a pre-integrated model and they are computed at each time step and at each computational *** that the velocity profiles are known,the obtained shape factors are inserted in the numerical *** this way it is possible to recover part of the information lost due to the one-dimensional flow *** profiles computed in stratified conditions are compared against experimental profiles measured by PIV technique;a method to compute the velocity profile during slug initiation and growth has been developed and the computed velocity distribution in the liquid phase was compared against the one-seventh power law.
