Photodynamic inactivation of microorganisms known as antibacterial photodynamic therapy(APDT)is one of the most promising and innovative approaches for the destruction of pathogenic *** the photosensitizers(PSs),compounds based on cationic porphyrins/metalloporphyrins are most successfully used to inactivate *** of meso-substituted cationic pyridylporphyrins and metalloporphyrins with various peripheral groups in the third and fourth positions of the pyrrole ring have been synthesized in *** aim of this work was to determine and test the most e®ective cationic porphyrins and metalloporphyrins with high photoactivity against gram negative and gram positive *** was shown that the synthesized cationic pyridylporphyrins/metalloporphyrins exhibit a high degree of phototoxicity towards both types of bacteria,including the methicillinresistant *** *** complexes of porphyrins are more phototoxic than metal-free porphyrin *** e®ectiveness of these Zn–metalloporphyrins on bacteria is consistent with the level of singlet oxygen *** was found that the high antibacterial activity of the studied cationic porphyrins/metalloporphyrins depends on four factors:the presence in the porphyrin macrocycle of a positive charge(+4),a central metal atom(Zn2þÞand hydrophobic peripheral functional groups as well as high values of quantum yields of singlet *** results indicate that meso-substituted cationic pyridylporphyrins/metalloporphyrins cannd wider application in photoinactivation of bacteria than anionic or neutral PSs usually used in APDT.

Post herpes zoster (HZ) reactions have been associated with panoply of neoplastic, inflammatory, and fibro-inflammatory cutaneous disorders. Varicella zoster virus (VZV) DNA has not been identified in most of these reports. After an episode of HZ, a healthy, active 90-year-old female developed ulcerative nodules in the affected trigeminal V1 dermatome and the contra-lateral trigeminal region over a 1-year period. Excision and/or biopsy of all these lesions showed similar pathologic changes that consisted of herpetic folliculitis, adjacent dense mixed nodular lymphocytic infiltrates with germinal centers (cutaneous lymphoid hyperplasia (CLH)), and in the deeper excision specimens, an obliterative vasculitis of a vessel with smooth muscle in its wall. Immunophenotype analysis revealed a mixed, predominate T-and B-cell population without loss of pan-T cell antigens or aberrant expression by B cells of T-cell antigens. Polymerase chain reaction for herpetic DNA was po sitive for VZV DNA. Lymphocyte gene rearrangement analysis revealed 2 distinct, anatomically and chronologically, monoclonal B-cell populations and a monoclona l T-cell population in one nodule. Treatment with valacyclovir has lead to almo st complete resolution of her cutaneous nodules after 6 months of therapy. In th is case, it can be surmised that persistence of VZV infection and lack of effect ive cell-mediated immunity lead to development of both immunopathology (vasculi tis) and excessive lymphoid cell proliferation (CLH).

A 56-year-old man with a history of Wegener granulomatosis presented with 6 days of sinus congestion, fever, malaise, myalgias, episcleritis, and a morbilli form rash. An exacerbation of Wegener granulomatosis was the principal concern because of the frequency of flares in that disease. The patient developed acute r enal failure, thrombocytopenia, transaminitis, and, finally, severe myocarditis that led to congestive heart failure. Additional history-taking and the evoluti on of his clinical features led to empirical treatment with doxycycline for huma n monocytic ehrlichiosis(HME). The diagnosis of HME was confirmed by both a poly merase chain reaction assay for Ehrlichia chaffeensis and by the demonstration of morulae within peripheral blood mononuclear cells. The patient improved prompt ly followinginstitution of doxycycline, and his cardiac function returned to nor mal over a period of 4 months.

Numerical simulations of smoke spread during solar roof fires

As the installation of solar roofs increases,so has the concern over *** from a solar roof fire could spread into a building through roof openings and presents a challenge for existing fire protection *** date,there have been insufficient studies on solar roof fire-induced smoke *** this study,we conducted computational fluid dynamics(CDF)simulations using Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS)to better understand the mechanisms of solar roof fire-induced smoke spread and help with solar roof ***,the photovoltaic(PV)combustion model was created in FDS and validated by experimental data.A parametric study was then simulated to investigate the impacts of roof slopes and vent sizes on the smoke spread of the solar *** was found that the roof slope has a significant effect on the fire smoke *** the roof slope increases,the region of separation,where the smoke and air are mixed,can extend from the leeward side of the building to the roof *** a result,smoke could fill the attic and room more slowly,leading to a lower soot density and lower indoor *** design a solar roof,both fire smoke protection and PV energy performance should be considered,especially for the low latitude regions where the PV optimal title angle regarding energy performance is small and leads to a higher risk of smoke infiltration.

Dry and wet spell probability by Markov chain model-a case study of North Lakhimpur(Assam),India

For the purpose of crop planning and to carry out the agricultural practices,it is important to know the sequence of dry and wet *** present study was undertaken with the objectives to forecast dry and wet spell analysis using Markov chain model and also to find out the exact time of onset and termination of monsoon at study area for North Lakhimpur(Assam),India using weekly rainfall data for a period of 24 *** results indicated that probability of occurrence of dry week is higher from week 1st to 14^(th) and also from week 41^(st) to 52^(nd).The range of probability of occurrence of dry week in these weeks varies from 41.67% to 100%.Probability of occurrence of wet week is higher from week 17^(th) to 40^(th).The range of probability of wet week in these weeks varies from 66.67% to 100%.Week 1^(st) to 4^(th) and 43^(rd) to 52^(nd) of the year remains under stress on an average,as there are 50% to 95.83% chances of occurrence of two consecutive dry *** analysis showed that monsoon starts effectively from week 23^(rd)(4^(th) June to 10^(th) June)in North *** week 25^(th)(18^(th) June to 24^(th) June)is ideal time for initiation of wet land preparation for growing short duration rice ***-monsoon effectively starts from week 14^(th)(2^(nd) April to 8^(th) April).On week 14^(th) sowing of summer maize(rain fed)may be *** 15^(th)(9^(th) April to 15^(th) April)is ideal time for initiation of wet land preparation for growing long duration rice variety.

Bin2vec:learning representations of binary executable programs for security tasks

Tackling binary program analysis problems has traditionally implied manually defining rules and heuristics,a tedious and time consuming task for human *** order to improve automation and scalability,we propose an alternative direction based on distributed representations of binary programs with applicability to a number of downstream *** introduce Bin2vec,a new approach leveraging graph Convolutional Networks(gCN)along with computational program graphs in order to learn a high dimensional representation of binary executable *** demonstrate the versatility of this approach by using our representations to solve two semantically different binary analysis tasks–functional algorithm classification and vulnerability *** compare the proposed approach to our own strong baseline as well as published results,and demonstrate improvement over state-of-the-art methods for both *** evaluated Bin2vec on 49191 binaries for the functional algorithm classification task,and on 30 different CWE-IDs including at least 100 CVE entries each for the vulnerability discovery *** set a new state-of-the-art result by reducing the classification error by 40%compared to the source-code based inst2vec approach,while working on binary *** almost every vulnerability class in our dataset,our prediction accuracy is over 80%(and over 90%in multiple classes).

Inferring topological transitions in pattern-forming processes with self-supervised learning

The identification of transitions in pattern-forming processes are critical to understand and fabricate microstructurally precise materials in many application *** supervised methods can be useful to identify transition regimes,they need labels,which require prior knowledge of order parameters or relevant microstructures describing these ***,we develop a self-supervised,neural-network-based approach that does not require predefined labels about microstructure classes to predict process parameters from observed *** show that assessing the difficulty of solving this inverse problem can be used to uncover microstructural *** demonstrate our approach by automatically discovering microstructural transitions in two distinct pattern-forming processes:the spinodal decomposition of a two-phase mixture and the formation of binary-alloy microstructures during physical vapor deposition of thin *** approach opens a path forward for discovering unseen or hard-to-discern transitions and ultimately controlling complex pattern-forming processes.

Non-destructive experimental testing and modeling of electrical impedance behavior of untreated and treated ultra-soft clayey soils

The characterization of ultra-soft clayey soil exhibits extreme challenges due to low shear strength of such ***,inspecting the non-destructive electrical impedance behavior of untreated and treated ultra-soft clayey soils gains more *** shear strength and electrical impedance were measured experimentally for both untreated and treated ultra-soft clayey *** shear strength of untreated ultra-soft clayey soil reached 0.17 kPa for 10% bentonite content,while the shear strengths increased to 0.27 kPa and 6.7 kPa for 10% bentonite content treated with 2% lime and 10% polymer,*** electrical impedance of the ultra-soft clayey soil has shown a significant decrease from 1.6 kΩ to 0.607 kΩ when the bentonite content increased from 2% to 10% at a frequency of 300 ***10%lime and 10% polymer treatments have decreased the electrical impedances of ultra-soft clayey soil with 10%bentonite from 0.607 kΩ to 0.12 kΩ and 0.176 kΩ,respectively,at a frequency of 300 kHz.A new mathematical model has been accordingly proposed to model the non-destructive electrical impedancefrequency relationship for both untreated and treated ultra-soft clayey *** new model has shown a good agreement with experimental data with coefficient of determination（R;）up to 0.99 and root mean square error（RMSE） of 0.007 kΩ.
