The acoustic properties of supersonic jet noise from a convergent-divergent nozzle with a baffle have been studied experimentally over the range of nozzle pressure ratios from 2.0 to 8.0. Acoustic measurements were conducted in a carefully designed anechoic room providing a free-field environment. A new approach for screech noise suppression by a cross-wire is proposed. Schlieren photographs were taken to visualize the shock wave patterns in the supersonic jet with and without the cross-wire. The effects of the baffle and the cross-wire on acoustic properties are discussed. It is shown that the baffle has little effect on the screech frequency for the underexpanded supersonic jet without the cross-wire. Also, the cross-wire introduced in supersonic jets is found to lead to a significant reduction in overall sound pressure level.

AIM: To investigate the effect of a fat rich diet onnon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAID)-induced mucosal damage in the murine small ***: C57BL6 mice were fed 4 types of diets with or without *** group was fed standard laboratory *** other groups were fed a fat diet consisting of 8% w/w fat,beef tallow(rich in SFA),fish oil,(rich in omega-3 PUFA),or safflower oil(rich in omega-6 PUFA).Indomethacin(3 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally from day 8 to day *** day 11,intestines and adhesions to submucosal microvessels were ***: In the indomethacin-treated groups,mucosal damage was exacerbated by diets containing beef tallow and fish oil,and was accompanied by leukocyte infiltration(P < 0.05).The mucosal damage induced by indomethacin was significantly lower in mice fed the safflower oil diet than in mice fed the beef tallow or fish oil diet(P < 0.05).Indomethacin increased monocyte and platelet migration to the intestinal mucosa,whereas safflower oil significantly decreased monocyte and platelet recruitment(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: A diet rich in SFA and omega-3 PUFA exacerbated NSAID-induced small intestinal damage via increased leukocyte ***,a diet rich in omega-6-PUFA did not aggravate inflammation as monocyte migration was blocked.

Low stress polishing is required for the manufacture of advanced integrated circuits(IC) with node sizes of 45 nm and ***,the CMP community achieved the low stress by reducing the down force that press the wafer against a rotating *** reduced down force also decrease the removal rate of the wafer. As a result,the productivity *** order to cope with this problem,an electrical potential is applied to the copper layer during polishing,in this case,the chemical oxidation is accelearated and hence the removal rate. Alternatively,the rotating pad must be softened to minimize the defects of wafers caused by CMP. In this research,we report a simpler solution to achieve low stress polishing without investing in new equipment and in developing new pad *** conventional CMP is proceeded by dressing the pad with a PCD dresser that can form 10×more asperities on the pad *** fluffy surface can then polish delicate IC without using the brutal *** a result,the removal rate of wafers can be maintained without causing defectivity on the IC layer.

Long-Term Outcomes of Systemic-to-Pulmonary Artery Shunt in Patients with Functional Single Ventricle and Heterotaxy Syndrome

Objectives: We sought to determine the long-term outcomes and mortality-associated factors after systemic-topulmonaryartery shunt (SPS) in patients with heterotaxy syndrome. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed allpatients with a functional single ventricle and heterotaxy syndrome who underwent SPS at our center from January2001 to April 2022. Results: This study involved 84 patients. Restrictive pulmonary blood flow requiringearly modulation was presented in 34 (40%) patients. Compared with patients without restrictive pulmonaryblood flow (N = 50 [60%]), the postnatal survival of these 34 patients was significantly lower at 10 years (log rank:p = 0.04), but the statistical significance disappeared at 20 years (log rank: p = 0.18). Among 31 patients whounderwent SPS, 11 (35%) had extracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC). The survivalrate after SPS was 80% at 10 years. Cox regression analysis showed that extracardiac TAPVC (hazard ratio6.44, 95% confidence interval 1.23–33.7, p = 0.03) and pulmonary venous obstruction (PVO) at TAPVC repair(hazard ratio 11.2, 95% confidence interval 2.13–58.5, p = 0.004) were significantly associated with death. In25 patients who underwent bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt (BCPS), surgical interventions on the pulmonaryartery (PA) were performed after SPS in 7 of 9 patients with PA coarctation, 3 of 4 with non-confluent PAs, and4 of 12 with normal PAs. At SPS, primary central PA plasty was performed in three patients with PA coarctationand 2 with non-confluent PAs. There was no significant difference in the PA index before BCPS between patientswith and without primary central PA plasty (p = 0.49). Among 20 patients who underwent total cavopulmonaryconnection (TCPC), adverse events occurred in 7 (35%) patients, including death in 1 (5%), intervention for pulmonaryarteriovenous malformation (PAVM) in 3 (15%), and surgical intervention for PVO in 3 (15%). BACKGROUND Electroconvulsive therapy(ECT)is used to treat major depressive disorder(MDD).Relapse is often observed even after successful ECT,followed by adequate pharmaceutical treatment for *** To investigate the diagnostic factors and treatment strategies associated with depression *** We analyzed the relationships between relapse,the diagnostic change from MDD to bipolar disorder(BP),and treatment after the initial *** performed a 3-year retrospective study of the prognoses of 85 patients of the Shiga University of Medical Science *** relative risk of relapse of depressive symptoms was calculated based on the diagnostic change from MDD to BP.A receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was generated to evaluate the predictive accuracy of diagnostic changes from MDD to BP based on the duration between the first course of ECT and the relapse of depressive *** Eighty-five patients initially diagnosed with MDD and successfully treated with ECT were enrolled in the *** with the MDD participants,more BP patients experienced relapses and required continuation and/or maintenance ECT to maintain remission(65.6%vs 15.1%,P<0.001;relative risk=4.35,95%CI:2.19-8.63,P<0.001).Twenty-nine patients experienced relapses during the three-year *** 21(72.4%,21/29)patients with relapse,the diagnosis was changed from MDD to *** duration from the first course of ECT to relapse was shorter for the BP patients than for the MDD patients(9.63±10.4 mo vs 3.38±3.77 mo,P=0.022);for most patients,the interval was less than one *** relative risk of depressive symptoms based on diagnostic changes was 4.35(95%confidence interval:2.19–8.63,P<0.001),and the area under the ROC curve for detecting diagnostic changes based on relapse duration was 0.756(95%CI:0.562-0.895,P=0.007).CONCLUSION It may be beneficial to suspect BP and change the treatment strategy from MDD to BP for patients experiencing an early relapse.
