Background The Cerrado is the most biodiverse savanna and maintains other biomes. Aware of its significance, this paper evaluated the Brazilian Cerrado's climatic, environmental, and socioeconomic aspects using remote sensing data and spatial statistics(correlation analysis and principal components analysis—PCA). Following the measures of sample adequacy(MSA) and Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin(KMO) tests, seventeen variables were *** The MSA revealed that the dataset had a good quality(0.76), and nine variables were selected: elevation,evapotranspiration, active fires, Human Development Index(HDI), land use and land cover(LULC; shrubland and cropland/rainfed), rainfall(spring and autumn), and livestock. The correlation matrix indicated a positive(negative)association between HDI and autumn rainfall(HDI and active fires) with a value of 0.77(-0.55). The PCA results determined which three principal components(PC) were adequate for extracting spatial patterns, accounting for 68.02% of the total variance with respective values of 38.59%, 16.89%, and 12.5%. Due to economic development and agribusiness, Cerrado's northern(central, western, and southern) areas had negative(positive) score HDI values, as shown in PC1. Climatic(rainfall—spring and fall) and environmental(cropland/rainfed and shrubland) aspects dominated the PC2, with negative scores in northern and western portions due to the transition zone between Amazon and Cerrado biomes caused by rainfall variability. On the other hand, environmental aspects(LULC-shrubland and elevation)influenced the PC3; areas with high altitudes(> 500 m) received a higher *** Agricultural expansion substantially affected LULC, leading to deforestation-caused suppression of native vegetation.

This work is aimed at the development of new green composite materials through the incorporation of the solid organic waste(SOW)in a thermoplastic *** being ground,the organic waste was exposed to a sterilization process,though an autoclave cycle,in order to obtain a complete removal of the bacterial *** SOW was found to have a high amount of water,about 65-70%,which made uneconomical its further treatment to reduce the water ***,a water soluble polymer,poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)was chosen in order to produce SOW based ***,in order to reduce the viscosity of the PVA/SOW slurry,further amount of water was *** very low viscosity attained by the water suspension allowed to process the PVA/SOW blends by a pressure-free process,for the production of samples,which were afterwards subjected to physical and mechanical *** tests showed the promising properties of the developed *** particular,the relevance of porosity was *** the water amount involved a signification increase of porosity,due to a faster water evaporation during *** the other hand,compared to neat PVA,addition of SOW allowed to significantly decrease the porosity of the produced *** this,the mechanical properties of the PVA/SOW blends were shown to be lower than those of neat PVA processed analogously.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic syndrome of unknown origin mostly found in males, and characterized by diffuse inflammation and fibrosis of both intra- and extra-hepatic bile ducts. So far, PSC is considered as an autoimmune hepatobiliary disease. In most cases the progression of PSC towards liver cirrhosis and liver failure is slow but irreversible, and liver transplantation is currently the only definitive treatment. In recent years,PSC has been an area of active research worldwide with great interest in etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapeutic options such as hydrophilic ursodeoxycholic acid and immunosuppressive agent tacrolimus. Recent updates on clinical and therapeutic aspects of PSC are discussed in the present review.

In turbulence modeling, the RNG and Realizable models have important improvements in the turbulent production and dissipation terms in comparison to the Standard. The selection of the appropriate turbulence model has an impact on the convergence and solution in STRs, and they are used in mixing, multiphase modeling or as starting solution of transient models as DES and LES. Although there are several studies with the pitched blade turbine(PBT) impeller, most of them used the Standard model as representative of all k–ε models, using structured hexahedral grids composed of low number of cells, and in some cases under axial symmetry ***, in this work the assessment of the Standard, RNG and Realizable models to describe the turbulent flow field of this impeller, using the Multiple Reference Frame(MRF) and Sliding Mesh(SM) approaches with tetrahedral domains in dense grids, is presented. This kind of cell elements is especially suitable to reproduce complex geometries. Flow velocities and turbulent parameters were verified experimentally by PIV and torque measurements. The three models were capable of predicting fairly the pumping number, the power number based on torque, and velocities. Although the RNG improved the predictions of the turbulent kinetic energy and dissipation rate, the Realizable model presented better performance for both approaches. All models failed in the prediction of the total dissipation rate, and a dependence of its value on the number of cells for the MRF was found.

We demonstrate an original method based on controlled oxidation for creating high-quality tunnel junctions between superconducting A1 reservoirs and InAs semiconductor nanowires （NWs）. We show clean tunnel characteristics with a current suppression by 〉4 orders of magnitude for a junction bias well below the A1 gap of △0≈ 200 μeV. The experimental data agree well with the Bardeen- Cooper-Schrieffer theoretical expectations for a superconducting tunnel junction. The studied devices employ small-scale tunnel contacts functioning as thermometers as well as larger electrodes that provide proof-of-principle active cooling of the electron distribution in the NWs. A peak refrigeration of approximately δT = 10 mK is achieved at a bath temperature of Tbath≈ 250-350 mK for our prototype devices. This method introduces important perspectives for the investigation of the thermoelectric effects in semiconductor nanostructures and for nanoscale refrigeration.
