Confirmatory factor analysis of ViSA-P scale and measurement invariance across sexes in athletes with patellar tendinopathy

Background:The Victorian institute of Sport Assessment–Patella(ViSA-P) scale is the most condition-specific patient-reported outcome measure used to assess symptom severity in athletes with patellar tendinopathy.Previous exploratory factor analyses have been conducted to evaluate the scale's dimensionality,with inconsistent results,and the factor structure of the scale remains unclear.The aims of the present study were to determine the factorial structure of the ViSA-P scale using confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) and test measurement invariance across sexes.Methods:The study included a convenience sample of 249 Spanish athletes with patellar tendinopathy.CFA was performed to assess factorial validity.Hypothesized 1-and 2-factor models were tested.Measurement invariance across sexes was evaluated via multi-group CFA with several fit indices using EQS 6.1 software.Results:The internal consistency coefficient was 0.74.Several CFA models were examined and the 1-factor model in which errors for items 7 and8 were correlated showed acceptable fit in terms of comparative fit index(CFi) and goodness-of-fit index(GFi) statistics(CFi = 0.93;GFi = 0.94;standardized root mean square residual = 0.06;root mean square error of approximation = 0.10;90% confidence interval:0.08–0.13).This model was invariant across sexes.Conclusion:The 1-factor model of the Spanish version of the ViSA-P scale(ViSA-P-Sp) in which errors for items 7 and 8 were correlated demonstrated relative fit in CFA.Scores obtained via ViSA-P-Sp can be compared between men and women without sexes bias.Further studies should examine the ViSA-P scale and other single-score patient-reported outcome measures concurrently.

Purpose： The main goal of this study is to discover the scientific evolution of Cancer-Related Symptoms in Complementary and Alternative Medicine research area, analyzing the articles indexed in the Web of Science database from 1980 to 2013.Design/Methodology/Approach： A co-word science mapping analysis is performed under a longitudinal framework（1980 to 2013）. The documental corpus is divided into two subperiods,1980–2008 and 2009–2013. Thus, the performance and impact rates, and conceptual evolution of the research field are shown.Findings： According to the results, the co-word analysis allows us to identify 12 main thematic areas in this emerging research field： anxiety, survivors and palliative care,meditation, treatment, symptoms and cancer types, postmenopause, cancer pain, low back pain, herbal medicine, children, depression and insomnia, inflammation mediators, and lymphedema. The different research lines are identified according to the main thematic areas,centered fundamentally on anxiety and suffering prevention. The scientific community can use this information to identify where the interest is focused and make decisions in different ways.Research limitation： Several limitations can be addressed： 1） some of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine therapies may not have been included; 2） only the documents indexed in Web of Science are analyzed; and 3） the thematic areas detected could change if another dataset was considered.Practical implications： The results obtained in the present study could be considered as an evidence-based framework in which future studies could be built.Originality/value： Currently, there are no studies that show the thematic evolution of this research area.

The blood-brain barrier is the interface through which the brain interacts with the milieu and consists mainly of a sophisticated network of brain endothelial cells that forms blood vessels and selectively moves molecules inside and outside the brain through multiple mechanisms of transport.Although brain endothelial cell function is crucial for brain homeostasis,their role in neurodegenerative diseases has historically not been considered with the same importance as other brain cells such as microglia,astroglia,neurons,or even molecules such as amyloid beta,Tau,or alpha-synuclein.Alzheimer's disease is the most common neurodegenerative disease,and brain endothelial cell dysfunction has been reported by several groups.However,its impairment has barely been considered as a potential therapeutic target.Here we review the most recent advances in the relationship between Alzheimer's disease and brain endothelial cells commitment and analyze the possible mechanisms through which their alterations contribute to this neurodegenerative disease,highlighting their inflammatory phenotype and the possibility of an impaired secretory pattern of brain endothelial cells that could contribute to the progression of this ailment.Finally,we discuss why shall brain endothelial cells be appreciated as a therapeutic target instead of solely an obstacle for delivering treatments to the injured brain in Alzheimer's disease.

Polyphenols as potential enhancers of stem cell therapy against neurodegeneration

The potential of polyphenols for treating chronic-degenerative diseases(particularly neurodegenerative diseases)is attractive.However,the selection of the best polyphenol for each treatment,the mechanisms by which they act,and their efficacy are frequently discussed.in this review,the basics and the advances in the field,as well as suggestions for using natural and synthetic polyphenols alone or in a combinatorial strategy with stem cell assays,are compiled and discussed.Thus,stem cells exhibit several responses when polyphenols are added to their environment,which could provide us with knowledge for advancing the elucidation of the origin of neurodegeneration.But also,polyphenols are being included in the innovative strategies of novel therapies for treating neurodegenerative diseases as well as metabolic diseases related to neurodegeneration.in this regard,flavonoid compounds are suggested as the best natural polyphenols due to their several mechanisms for acting in ameliorative effects;but increasing reports are involving other polyphenols.Even if some facts limiting bioactivity prevent them from conventional use,some natural polyphenols and derivatives hold the promise for being improved compounds,judged by their induced effects.The current results suggest polyphenols as enhancers of stem cell therapy against the targeted diseases.

Grapes and sweet potatoes are two different plant species that have distinct bioactive composition and the use of both in a non-alcoholic mixed beverage may be an interesting source of phytochemicals.Physicochemical and sensory characteristics,profile of phenolic compounds and biogenic amines of mixed juices of grapes (‘BRS Violeta’,‘BRS Cora’ and ‘Bordô’) and purple-fleshed sweet potato (‘JNRX12’) (0,10 and 30%) were determined.The beverage with sweet potato had high antioxidant activity attributed to the phytochemical compounds (e.***.anthocyanins,gallic acid,catechin,tryptophan,melatonin,serotonin and dopamine).Low levels of unwanted amines (histamine,tyramine,putrescine and cadaverine) were detected,showing that their consumption is safe.Purple-fleshed sweet potato had high levels of desirable amines,mainly melatonin,making the addition of sweet potato attractive for enriching beverages.The color,texture and sensory aspects were similar in whole grape juice and in mixed juices.Juices from ‘BRS Violeta’,with or without sweet potato showed high levels of bioactive compounds but were the least appreciated.The overall appearance and aroma of juices elaborated from ‘BRS Cora’ or ‘Bordô' grapes had similar acceptance,regardless of the addition of sweet potato.Beverages from ‘BRS Cora’ and 30% purple-fleshed sweet potato are the most interesting mixture due to tryptophan and melatonin contents.Mixed juices of grapes and sweet potatoes (10% and 30%) are viable options for the use of tubers outside the commercial standard,as they add interesting bioactive compounds to beverages and please the consumer.

Porous organic molecular materials(POMMs)are an emergent class of molecular-based materials characterized by the formation of extended porous frameworks,mainly held by non-covalent interactions.POMMs represent a variety of chemical families,such as hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks,porous organic salts,porous organic cages,C-H···πmicroporous crystals,supramolecular organic frameworks,π-organic frameworks,halogen-bonded organic framework,and intrinsically porous molecular materials.in some porous materials such as zeolites and metal organic frameworks,the integration of multiscale has been adopted to build materials with multifunctionality and optimized properties.Therefore,considering the significant role of hierarchy in porous materials and the growing importance of POMMs in the realm of synthetic porous materials,we consider it appropriate to dedicate for the first time a critical review covering both topics.Herein,we will provide a summary of literature examples showcasing hierarchical POMMs,with a focus on their main synthetic approaches,applications,and the advantages brought forth by introducing hierarchy.
