This paper presents a proposal for an experimental salt cavern in offshore ultra-deep water for CO2 abatement,including the instrumentation plan and well conceptual design evaluated for carbon capture and storage(CCS)*** studies are based on applied computational mechanics associated with field experimentation that has contributed to the technical feasibility of the underground potash mine at the State of Sergipe in *** knowhow allowed the stability analysis of several salt caverns for brine production at the State of Alagoas in Brazil and to the drilling through stratified thick layers of salt of the pre-salt reservoirs in Santos ***,this knowledge has been applied in the design of onshore and offshore salt caverns opened by dissolution for storage of natural gas and *** geomechanical study,through the application of computational mechanics,of offshore giant salt caverns of 450 m high by 150 m in diameter,shows that one cavern can store about 4 billion Sm3 or 7.2 million tons of *** the construction of the giant cavern,which will be the first gas storage offshore in the world,it has been decided to develop an experimental one,with smaller size,to obtained field *** experimental cavern will allow the calibration of parameters to be used in the structural integrity analysis of the cavern and well for storage of natural gas which is rich in CO2 under high pressure.

Metabolic Cycles: Effect of a Simultaneous Input and Output of Two Substrates

The metabolic cycle firstly considered here is composed of a unique initial substrate, six enzymes, and five empty boxes to accommodate the substrates derived from the transformation of the initial substrate. This cycle was considered as a pre-Closed Metabolic Cycle (CMC). Using this model, the influence of changing the kinetic constant values of any enzyme on the substrate concentration was explored. This model was transformed into an open metabolic cycle (OMC) by the input and output of two metabolites catalyzed by two external enzymes. In this case, the relative rates of input and output of metabolites were also examined;it can be concluded that the OMC cycles form delicate and fragile structures which can be theoretically disrupted, making them metabolically unfeasible.

Closed and Open Metabolic Cycles: Transition Time

A metabolic cycle can be viewed as a central core and its branches. The central core is here firstly considered as a pre-closed metabolic cycle (CMC), with a unique first substrate, but with no input or output of other components. By contrast, the metabolic cycles in nature are open metabolic cycles (OMC) with output and input of external substrates (through “metabolic branches”), modulating continuously the enzyme activities and the total concentration of their substrates thorough complex regulatory phenomena. In this work, the transition from a Closed to an Open metabolic cycle has been simulated by a consecutive entry and exit of two components through the catalytic action of two enzymes. It is known that after any alteration of the initial conditions, the cycles need a time to reach new equilibrium. We have measured the changes of transition time (T.T.) values in 81 models of CMC differing in Km or vmax values. In general, the T.T. tends to be shorter in cycles with preponderant lower Km and higher vmax values. Further, Mathematica refinement for the estimation of transition time from the data previously calculated can be obtained with the use of the command Interpolating Function.

BACKGROUND Bow hunter’s syndrome(BHS)is a rare but surgically treatable cause of vertebrobasilar insufficiency due to dynamic rotational occlusion of the vertebral ***,patients present with posterior circulation transient ischaemic symptoms such as presyncope,syncope,vertigo,diplopia,and horizontal nystagmus,but irreversible deficits,including medullary and cerebellar infarctions,have also been *** SUMMARY A 70-year-old patient presented an acute onset of vertigo and gait instability triggered by right head *** medical history included previous episodes of unilateral left neck and occipital pain followed by light-headedness,sweating,and blurred vision when turning his head,and these episodes were associated with severe degenerative changes in the atlanto-dens and left atlanto-axial facet joints and right rotation of the C2 cervical *** magnetic resonance imaging revealed the presence of acute bilateral cerebellar ischaemic lesions,while static vascular imaging did not reveal any vertebral artery *** ultrasonography and angiography were performed and confirmed the presence of a dynamic occlusion of the vertebral artery v3-v4 segment when the head was rotated to the right secondary to left C1-C2 bone spur *** decompression led to complete resolution of paroxysmal symptoms without neurological *** BHS should be considered in cases of repeated posterior circulation transient ischaemic attack or ischaemic stroke,particularly when associated with high cervical spine abnormalities.

Copolymer-1（Cop-1） is a peptide with immunomodulatory properties, approved by the Food and Drug Administration of United States in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Cop-1 has been shown to exert neuroprotective effects and induce neurogenesis in cerebral ischemia models. Nevertheless, the mechanism involved in the neurogenic action of this compound remains unknown. The choroid plexus（CP） is a network of cells that constitute the interphase between the immune and central nervous systems, with the ability to mediate neurogenesis through the release of cytokines and growth factors. Therefore, the CP could play a role in Cop-1-induced neurogenesis. In order to determine the participation of the CP in the induction of neurogenesis after Cop-1 immunization, we evaluated the gene expression of various growth factors（brain-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor 1, neurotrophin-3） and cytokines（tumor necrosis factor alpha, interferon-gamma, interleukin-4（IL-4）, IL-10 and IL-17）, in the CP at 14 days after ischemia. Furthermore, we analyzed the correlation between the expression of these genes and neurogenesis. Our results showed that Cop-1 was capable of stimulating an upregulation in the expression of the genes encoding for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor 1, neurotrophin-3 and IL-10 in the CP, which correlated with an increase in neurogenesis in the subventricular and subgranular zone. As well, we observed a downregulation of IL-17 gene expression. This study demonstrates the effect of Cop-1 on the expression of growth factors and IL-10 in the CP, in the same way, presents a possible mechanism involved in the neurogenic effect of Cop-1.

Rare earth(Ⅲ)diphenyl-4-amine sulfonates(RE(DAS)3·xH2O,RE=Eu^3+,Tb^3+)phosphors were synthesized by precursor method from barium diphenyl-4-amine sulfonate and rare earth ***,TG/DSC coupled to mass spectrometry(TG/DSC/MS),X-ray powder diffraction(XPD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and photo luminesce nce(PL)spectroscopy were utilized to structurally and morphologically characterize the *** decomposition of Eu(DAS)3·7H2O and Tb(DAS)3·2H2O at 973 K under dynamic air atmosphere results in crystalline Eu2O2SO4 and Tb2O2SO4 materials,***,MS spectra reveal the liberation of thermal decomposition products of precursors,largely as CO2,NO2 and SO2 *** diphenyl-4-amine sulfonate(DAS)ligand demonstrats a good stabilizing property for Eu^3+and Tb^3+*** Eu(DAS)3·7H2O and Tb(DAS)3·2H2O compounds display efficient red and green emissions,under Uv excitation,arising from the 5D0→7FJ(J=0-4)and 5D4→7FJ(J=0-6)transitions of the Eu^3+and Tb^3+ions,respectively.

Theoretical Evaluation of Both Unknown Substrate Concentrations and Enzyme Kinetic Constants of Metabolic Cycles

A formula has been deduced, and named as 2ESKv, relating the concentration of two consecutive substrates of a metabolic cycle with the kinetic constants of the two enzymes involved in their synthesis and degradation. After application of formula 2ESKv to consecutive pairs of substrates and enzymes, a system of interrelated equations was obtained allowing a great variety of theoretical postulates to calculate, back and forth: bunches of unknown enzyme kinetic constants and substrate concentrations, from complementary sets of known data. This vision of a metabolic cycle is of partial application to irreversible pathways and can be useful for modeling and understanding of metabolomics data. To our knowledge, the formula 2ESKv is here described for the first time.

Further advancement of high-energy pulsed lasers requires a parallel development of appropriate optical *** different optical components, such as mirrors and antireflection-coated windows, which are essential for the design of Hi LASE high average power lasers were tested. The following paper summarizes results on the measurements of laser-induced damage threshold of such components, and clearly shows their capabilities and limitations for such a demanding application.

Sensing in the presence of strong noise by deep learning of dynamic multimode fiber interference

A new approach to optical fiber sensing is proposed and demonstrated that allows for specific measurement even in the presence of strong noise from undesired environmental perturbations.A deep neural network model is trained to statistically learn the relation of the complex optical interference output from a multimode optical fiber(MMF)with respect to a measurand of interest while discriminating the *** technique negates the need to carefully shield against,or compensate for,undesired perturbations,as is often the case for traditional optical fiber *** is achieved entirely in software without any fiber postprocessing fabrication steps or specific packaging required,such as fiber Bragg gratings or specialized *** technique is highly generalizable,whereby the model can be trained to identify any measurand of interest within any noisy environment provided the measurand affects the optical path length of the MMF’s guided *** demonstrate the approach using a sapphire crystal optical fiber for temperature sensing under strong noise induced by mechanical vibrations,showing the power of the technique not only to extract sensing information buried in strong noise but to also enable sensing using traditionally challenging exotic materials.
