Seismic distortions of a deep circular tunnel in elastic slightly anisotropic ground

Tunnels must withstand not only the demands stemming from normal working conditions but also from extreme events such as ***,there is consistent evidence in the technical literature that indicates that tunnels are vulnerable to damage and must be designed to adequately support the demand imposed by the *** demand should be estimated using dynamic numerical methods that include soil-structure interaction and incorporate realistic models for the support and surrounding *** preliminary analysis,however,or when the seismic demand is insufficient to take the ground beyond its elastic regime,analytical solutions may provide a reasonable estimate of the tunnel behavior,especially if the tunnel is sufficiently far from the seismic source such that a pseudostatic analysis is *** analytical solutions are based on the assumption that the ground is isotropic,which may not be realistic,as *** processes may result in engineering properties that depend on the direction of *** work presented in the paper builds on the results by Bobet(2011,2016)who provided closed-form solutions for deep tunnels in elastic transversely anisotropic ground;however,the paper provides much simpler solutions for those cases where the ground is slightly anisotropic.A comparison between the approximate and the exact solutions shows that the errors are negligible when the ground anisotropy is small and grow,albeit slowly,as the ground anisotropy *** conclusion applies to different loading conditions,drained and undrained,and to different ground-support interfaces,tied or frictionless.

Linking the Gawler Craton and Mount Isa Province through hydrothermal systems in the Peake and Denison Domain,northeastern Gawler Craton

Tectonic reconstructions of Proterozoic Australia commonly place the Peake and Denison Domain of the northeastern Gawler Craton at the interface between the North and South Australian cratons prior to the reconfiguration of Australia’s main tectonic components in the ***,this reconstruction is largely based on palaeomagnetic data as the geological correlations between these regions are currently limited,particularly during the *** early Mesoproterozoic period is significant as it corresponds to major IOCG mineralization in the eastern Gawler Craton between 1600 Ma and 1575 Ma,and IOCG mineralization in the Mount Isa Province largely between 1550 Ma and 1490 ***,determining the relationship of the Peake and Denison Domain to the Gawler Craton and Mount Isa Province during this period is essential to evaluating mineral prospectivity in the northeastern Gawler *** U–Pb LA-ICP-MS geochronology on zircon and titanite improves our understanding of the tectonothermal and hydrothermal history the Peake and Denison Domain during the latePalaeoproterozoic,early-Mesoproterozoic and the Cambrian–Ordovician *** formed within largely calc-silicate alteration assemblages indicates the Peake and Denison Domain has a protracted history of hydrothermal activity,recording events at c.1565 Ma,1530–1515 Ma,c.1500 Ma,c.1465 Ma and c.490 *** highly calcic nature of the c.1565–1500 Ma alteration in the Peake and Denison Domain shares strong similarities in age and character to the regional calcic-sodic alteration recorded in the Mount Isa *** suggest the two regions were influenced by similar hydrothermal systems during the early Mesoproterozoic,supporting reconstruction models that place the Peake and Denison Domain near the Mount Isa Province during the *** highlights the prospectivity of the Peake and Denison Domain for Isan-style IOCG mineralization,but requires consideration of the post-

In the last decades the interest in the biomass gasification process has increased due to the growing attention to the use of sustainable energy. Biomass is a renewable energy source and represents a valid alternative to fossil fuels. Gasification is the thermochemical conversion of an organic material into a valuable gaseous product, called syngas, and a solid product, called char. The biomass gasification represents an efficient process for the production of power and heat and the production of hydrogen and second-generation *** paper deals with the state of the art biomass gasification technologies, evaluating advantages and disadvantages, the potential use of the syngas and the application of the biomass gasification. Syngas cleaning though fundamental to evaluate any gasification technology is not included in this paper since; in the authors＇ opinion, a dedicated review is necessary.

Gene expression and physiological responses to salinity and water stress of contrasting durum wheat genotypes

Elucidating the relationships between gene expression and the physiological mechanisms remains a bottleneck in breeding for resistance to salinity and drought. This study related the expression of key target genes with the physiological performance of durum wheat under different combinations of salinity and irrigation. The candidate genes assayed included two encoding for the DREB（dehydration responsive element binding） transcription factors Ta DREB1 A and Ta DREB2 B, another two for the cytosolic and plastidic glutamine synthetase（Ta GS1 and Ta GS2）, and one for the specific Na^＋/H^＋ vacuolar antiporter（Ta NHX1）. Expression of these genes was related to growth and different trait indicators of nitrogen metabolism（nitrogen content, stable nitrogen isotope composition, and glutamine synthetase and nitrate reductase activities）, photosynthetic carbon metabolism（stable carbon isotope composition and different gas exchange traits） and ion accumulation. Significant interaction between genotype and growing conditions occurred for growth, nitrogen content, and the expression of most *** general terms, higher expression of Ta GS1, Ta GS2,Ta DREB2 B, and to a lesser extent of Ta NHX1 were associated with a better genotypic performance in growth, nitrogen, and carbon photosynthetic metabolism under salinity and water stress. However, Ta DREB1 A was increased in expression under stress compared with control conditions, with tolerant genotypes exhibiting lower expression than susceptible ones.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have gained great attention as promising photocatalysts for hydrogen ***,due to their poor stability in water,the use of aqueous hydrohalic acid solutions is specifically required for an efficient hydrogen ***,three novel photoactive lead-free hybrid perovskites based on bismuth and triazolium cations(denoted as IEF-15,IEF-16,and IEF-17(IEF stands for IMDEA energy frameworks))were synthesized and fully characterized(structural,compositional,optical,etc.).Further,these solids were proposed as photocatalysts for the challenging gas phase overall water splitting(OWS)***,IEF-16 thin films exhibited a remarkable photocatalytic activity in both H_(2) and O_(2) evolution,as a consequence of its appropriate bandgap and energy-band alignment,achieving hydrogen evolution rates ofμmol·g_(H_(2))^(-)1846 and 360 after 24 h under ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)irradiation or simulated solar irradiation,*** study additionally highlights the remarkable structural and photochemical stability of IEF-16 under different operational conditions(*** volume,irradiation and temperature),paving the way for green hydrogen production from OWS using perovskite-based photocatalysts.

A power system with a high wind power integration requires extra transmission capacity to accommodate the intermittency inherent to wind power *** can smooth out this intermittency and reduce transmission *** paper proposes a stochastic optimization model to coordinate the long-term planning of both transmission and storage facilities to efficiently integrate wind *** longterm and short-term uncertainties are considered in this ***-term uncertainty is described via scenarios,while shortterm uncertainty is described via operating ***’s 6-node system and a system representing Northwest China in 2030 are used to illustrate the proposed *** indicate that storage reduces transmission requirement and the overall investment,and allows the efficient integration of wind power.

Clinical characteristics and type of antithrombotic treatment in a Spanish cohort of elderly patients with atrial fibrillation according to dependency, frailty and cognitive impairment

Background Available data regarding clinical profile and management of elderly patients with atrial fibrillation （AF） according to dependency, fragility and cognitive impairment are scarce. The objective of the study was to analyze the biodemographic data, clinical profile and antithrombotic treatment according to dependency, fragility and cognitive impairment in elderly AF patients. Methods Cross- sectional and multi-center study performed in consecutive AF patients ≥ 75 years treated with oral anticoagulants ≥ 3 months attended in Internal Medicine Departments in Spain. Results A total of 837 patients （83.0 ± 5.0 years; CHA2DS2-VASc： 5.0 ± 1.4; HAS-BLED： 2.1 ± 0.9） were included. 44.4% of patients had some degree of dependency, 43.3% were fragile, and 32.3% had cognitive impairment. Patients with any of these conditions were older, had a worse clinical profile, with more comorbidities and higher risks of thromboembolic and bleeding events. All these conditions were independently associated among them. Overall, 70.8% of patients were taking vitamin K antagonists, the remaining 29.2% direct oral anticoagulants and 9.7% oral antiplatelets. This distribution was independent of the presence of dependency or fragility, but there was a trend to a higher prescription of vitamin K antagonists in those patients with cognitive impairment （75.2% vs. 68.8%; P = 0.05）. Conclusions Approximately 32%-44% of elderly anticoagulated AF patients attended have some degree of dependency, fragility and/or cognitive impairment. Patients with any of these conditions are older and have a worse clinical profile. Ap？proximately 71% of patients are taking vitamin K antagonists, regardless dependency or frailty, but with a trend to higher prescription in patients with cognitive impairment.

The tensile behaviour of near a Ti3Al2.5 V alloy,conceived for applications in aerospace and automotive engineering,is characterized from quasi-static to high strain *** material is found to present noticeable strain rate *** dynamic true strain rate in the necking cross-section reaches values up to ten times higher than the nominal strain *** is also observed that beyond necking the dynamic true stress-strain curves present limited rate *** experimental results at different strain rates are used to determine a suitable constitutive model for finite element simulations of the dynamic tensile *** model predicts the experimentally macroscopic force-time response,true stress-strain response and effective strain rate evolution with good agreement.

New oral agents for erectile dysfunction: what is changing in our practice?

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a highly prevalent disorder affecting an estimated 152 million men worldwide and isassociated with a variety of behavioral risk factors, such as cigarette smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, aswell as numerous age - related medical conditions, notably type-2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. A ratio-nal step - wise approach which includes comprehensive medical and sexual history, a focused physical examination andessential laboratory tests such as fasting glucose, lipid profile and testosterone assay is to be preferred. Current diagnos-tic work - up does not recommend any of the specialized tests which were previously considered mandatory-i. e. penilepharmacotesting, Duplex ultrasound and nocturnal penile tumescence. Hormonal replacement therapy is appropriate onlyin the hypogonadal male with ED. Prior to direct intervention, the physician should consider altering modifiable riskfactors or causes, although frequently insufficient to reverse ED completely. When indicated, oral therapy with newmolecules (phosphodiesterase inhibitors or apomorphine) is the first - line treatment for the majority of patients becauseof potential benefits and lack of invasiveness.
