impact of radiative cooling on the energy performance of courtyards in Mediterranean climate

Radiative cooling has proven to be a useful tool to address the problems of lack of comfort and excessive energy consumption in situations of high temperatures,overheating and heat ***,incorporating courtyards in warm climate zones has been found to be highly beneficial in addressing similar ***,there is interest in analyzing the combined effects of both:radiative cooling and *** paper presents an analysis of the impact of the application of radiative cooling on a courtyard using a comprehensive simulation approach that includes a CfD model for the thermodynamic airflow in the adjacent roofs and inside the courtyard,equations for the transient heat conduction through roofs,walls and courtyard slabs,and a hybrid raytracing-radiosity model for the evaluation of the solar radiation reaching the building surfaces and its reflections,both of specular and diffuse origin,and for the calculation of the thermal radiation exchange,especially with the *** results show that in the hot season,the courtyard with radiative cooling always provides lower temperatures than the initial courtyard does,with a temperature range of 18.33℃to 33.78℃,compared to a range of 19.32℃to 38.00℃in the initial courtyard,and producing a greater difference with outdoor temperatures that can reach 12℃versus 8℃for the reference *** addition,it was found that the courtyard with radiative cooling is able to significantly reduce the observed nighttime overheating by providing lower temperatures than the outdoor temperatures in the 50%of the nights *** was also found that the thermal loads to achieve indoor thermal comfort in the spaces adjacent to the courtyard were reduced by 63.46%to 69.85%.

Bound-states-in-the-continuum(BiC)is an emerging concept in nanophotonics with potential impact in applications,such as hyperspectral imaging,mirror-less lasing,and nonlinear harmonic *** true BiC modes are nonradiative,they cannot be excited by using propagating light to investigate their optical *** this paper,for the 1st time,we map out the strong near-field localization of the true BiC resonance on arrays of silicon nanoantennas,via electron energy loss spectroscopy with a sub-1-nm electron *** systematically breaking the designed antenna symmetry,emissive quasi-BiC resonances become *** gives a unique experimental tool to determine the coherent interaction length,which we show to require at least six neighboring antenna *** importantly,we demonstrate that quasi-BiC resonances are able to enhance localized light emission via the Purcell effect by at least 60 times,as compared to unpatterned *** work is expected to enable practical applications of designed,ultra-compact BiC antennas such as for the controlled,localized excitation of quantum emitters.

Spatiotemporal variation in the adult sex ratio,male aggregation,and movement of two tropical cloud forest dung beetles

While theory suggests that at conception the sex ratio should be balanced(1:1),this can be variable across space and time in wild ***,studies of the environmental factors that regulate adult sex ratio(ASR)in species with different life history traits are *** capture–recapture over a year,we analyzed the influence of habitat type(forest and nonforest)and season(rainy and dry)on variation in ASR,male aggregation and the trajectory movement of 2 dung beetle species with different life history traits:Deltochilum mexicanum(a hornless roller species)and Dichotomius satanas(a tunneler species with horns on its head and thorax).We found opposite *** *** population tends to be female-biased,but the population of *** tends to be predominantly male,and observed values were not related to habitat type or ***,the 95%confidence intervals estimated were highly variable between seasons depending on *** examining the monthly variation in ASR for both habitats,we found that it depends on the *** addition,male aggregation differed between species depending on habitat type and season,and species movement patterns were closely related to their habitat *** on our results,we argue that comparative population studies of species with different life history traits are necessary to understand the variation in demographic parameters as well as its ecological and evolutionary implications in the face of spatial and climatic environmental variation.

Rhizosphere soil samples of three Pinus chiapensis sites were analyzed for their physicochemical properties,soil bacteria isolated and screened in vitro for growthpromoting *** isolates that showed promise were identified to five genera Dyella,Luteimonas,Euterobacter,Paraburkholderia and Bacillus based on the sequences of16 S rrnA *** the strains were isolated from nondisturbed *** bacteria significantly decreased germination time and increased sprout *** acetic acid and gibberellin production and phosphate solubilisation were *** indicate that these biochemicals could be essential for *** distribution and suggest the possibility that PGPR inoculation on *** seeds prior to planting could improve germination and possibly seedling development.

Usefulness of duodenal biopsy during routine upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for diagnosis of celiac disease

AiM： To describe the trend in duodenal biopsy performance during routine upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in an adult Spanish population, and to analyze its value for the diagnosis of celiac disease in clinical practice. METHODS： A 15 year-trend （1990 to 2004） in duodenal biopsy performed when undertaking upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was studied. We analysed the prevalence of celiac disease in the overall group, and in the subgroups with anaemia and/or chronic diarrhoea. RESULTS： Duodenal biopsy was performed in 1033 of 13 678 upper gastrointestinal endoscopies （7.6%）; an increase in the use of such was observed over the study period （1.9% in 1990-1994, 5% in 1995-1999 and 12.8% in 2000-2004）. Celiac disease was diagnosed in 22 patients （2.2%）, this being more frequent in women than in men （3% and 1% respectively）. fourteen out of 514 （2.7%） patients with anaemia, 12 out of 141 （8.5%） with chronic diarrhoea and 8 out of 42 （19%） with anaemia plus chronic diarrhoea had celiac disease. A classical clinical presentation was observed in 55% of the cases, 23% of the patients had associated dermatitis herpetiformis and 64% presented anaemia; 9% were diagnosed by familial screening and 5% by cryptogenetic hypertransaminasaemia. CONCLUSiON： Duodenal biopsy undertaken during routine upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in adults, has been gradually incorporated into clinical practice, and is a useful tool for the diagnosis of celiac disease in high risk groups such as those with anaemia and/or chronic diarrhoea.

Eventual Leader Election with Weak Assumptions on initial Knowledge,Communication Reliability,and Synchrony

This paper considers the eventual leader election problem in asynchronous message-passing systems where an arbitrary number t of processes can crash（t〈n,where n is the total number of processes）.it considers weak assumptions both on the initial knowledge of the processes and on the network *** precisely,initially,a process knows only its identity and the fact that the process identities are different and totally ordered（it knows neither n nor t）.Two eventual leader election protocols and a lower bound are *** first protocol assumes that a process also knows a lower bound α on the number of processes that do not *** protocol requires the following behavioral properties from the underlying network：the graph made up of the correct processes and fair lossy links is strongly connected,and there is a correct process connected to（n〈f）-α other correct processes（where f is the actual number of crashes in the considered run） through eventually timely paths（paths made up of correct processes and eventually timely links）.This protocol is not communication-efficient in the sense that each correct process has to send messages *** second protocol is communication-efficient：after some time,only the final common leader has to send messages *** protocol does not require the processes to know α,but requires stronger properties from the underlying network：each pair of correct processes has to be connected by fair lossy links（one in each direction）,and there is a correct process whose n〈f-1 output links to the rest of correct processes have to be eventually timely.A matching lower bound result shows that any eventual leader election protocol must have runs with this number of eventually timely links,even if all processes know all the processes *** addition to being communication-efficient,the second protocol has another noteworthy efficiency property,namely,be the run finite or infinite,all the local variables and message fields have

Different treatments were conducted over Ti6Al4V samples in order to produce a surface modification to increase cell attachment and *** surface treatments evaluated in this study were as follows:etching with sulfuric acid/hydrochloric acid,oxidizing with hydrogen peroxide and low-pressure oxygen plasma *** contrast to other works found in the literature,this research conducts a comparison between different chemical and physical treatments in terms of different assays for surface characterization:X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscope(SEM),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,water contact angle,release of vanadium ions and cell viability tests(MTT)of human osteoblasts(hfOB 1.19).Cell morphology over the different substrates was also studied by SEM *** was found that plasma and peroxide treatments increase the O/Ti ratio at the titanium surface and provide an increase in cell *** the other hand,acid etching provides a superhydrophilic surface which is not able to improve the cell attachment of human osteoblasts.

Genetics of traits related to fruit cuticle deposition and composition was studied in two red-fruited tomato *** mapping populations derived from the cross between the cultivated tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.)and its closest relative wild species Solanum pimpinellifolium *** employed to conduct a QTL analysis.A combination of fruit cuticle deposition,components and anatomical traits were investigated and the individual effect of each QTL evaluated.A total of 70 QTLs were identified,indicating that all the cuticle traits analyzed have a complex polygenic nature.A combination of additive and epistatic interactions was observed for all the traits,with positive contribution of both parental lines to most of *** of QTLs for various traits uncovered novel genomic regions producing extensive changes in the *** density emerges as an important trait since it can modulate cuticle thickness and invagination thus providing a strategy for sustaining mechanical strength without compromising *** genomic regions,located in chromosomes 1 and 12,are responsible for the negative interaction between cuticle waxes and phenolics identified in tomato *** candidate genes,including transcription factors and structural genes,are postulated and their expression analyzed throughout development.

Effects of a long-term physical exercise program with and without diet on obese boys after six-month detraining

Background:Most studies on physical fitness and detraining have been conducted on normal-weight *** results indicate that any gains regress to the untrained control values during the detraining ***,therefore,seems necessary to determine how detraining affects the different fitness parameters in obese *** aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of detraining(6 months)on kinanthropometry and the components of physical fitness after an intervention(31 months)consisting of a program of exercise and/or diet for obese ***:The participants were 18 boys,aged between 8 and 11 years,divided into E and E+D groups according to the program they *** E group followed a physical exercise program(three 90-minute sessions/week),and the E+D group the same physical exercise program plus a low calorie *** fitness was assessed by the European physical fitness test battery including flamingo balance,plate tapping,sit-andreach,standing broad jump,hand-grip strength,sit-ups,bent-arm hang,10×5-metre shuttle run,and 20-metre endurance shuttle *** Kruskal-Wallis test was applied to reveal overall intergroup differences(E and E+D groups),and measurements showing significant differences were further analysed for differences between individual groups by the Mann-Whitney U ***:in both groups,changes were observed in various physical fitness parameters,especially limb speed(E group,P=0.001;E+D group,P=0.002),agility(E group,Pic fitness(E group,P=0.009;E+D group,P=0.002).Conclusion:Detraining after a long-term intervention based on the combination of exercise program and exercise program plus diet in obese boys does not affect the changes attained during the intervention.

Anastomosing hemangioma is a type of tumor lesion of benign behavior scarcely documented, it has been observed in renal parenchyma, testicles, ovaries and adrenal glands, it is usually prone to perirenal and renal medullary adipose tissue. in this case report, we present an anastomosed hemangioma in the right kidney of a 33-year-old woman, with previous coexistence of breast cancer, in which an unusual behavior was detected, with characteristics of vascular lesion, in this case we report: The classic conditions, its heterogeneous nature and the vascular alterations that presents in different imaging modalities.
