BACKGROUND For palliation of malignant biliary obstruction(MBO), th. gold-standard meth.d of biliary drainage is endoscopic retrograde ch.langiopancreatograph.(ERCP)with.th. placement of metallic stents. Endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)-guided drainage is an alternative th.t is typically reserved for cases of ERCP ***, h.wever, th.re h.ve been robust randomized clinical trials(RCTs)comparing EUS-guided drainage and ERCP as primary approach.s to *** To compare EUS guidance and ERCP in terms of th.ir effectiveness and safety in palliative biliary drainage for *** Th.s was a systematic review and meta-analysis, in wh.ch.we search.d th. MEDLINE, Excerpta Medica, and Coch.ane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases. Only RCTs comparing EUS and ERCP for primary drainage of MBO were eligible. All of th. studies selected provided data regarding th. rates of tech.ical and clinical success, as well as th. duration of th. procedure, adverse events, and stent patency. We assessed th. risk of biases using th. Jadad score and th. quality of evidence using th. Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development and Evaluation *** Th. database search.s yielded 5920 records, from wh.ch.we selected 3 RCTs involving a total of 222 patients(112 submitted to EUS and 110 submitted to ERCP). In th. EUS and ERCP groups, th. rate of tech.ical success was 91.96%n and 91.81%, respectively, with.a risk difference(RD) of 0.00%(95%CI:-0.07, 0.07;P = 0.97; I^2 = 0%). Th. clinical success was 84.81% and 85.53% in th. EUS and ERCP groups, respectively, with.an RD of-0.01%(95%CI:-0.12, 0.10; P = 0.90; I^2 =0%). Th. mean difference(MD) for th. duration of th. procedure was-0.12%(95%CI:-8.20, 7.97; P = 0.98; I^2 = 84%). In th. EUS and ERCP groups, th.re were14 and 25 adverse events, respectively, with.an RD of-0.06%(95%CI:-0.23, 0.12; P= 0.54; I^2 = 77%). Th. Exclusively Brazilian, th. Caatinga biome h.s been th.s far a place of very few studies on th. Basidiomycetes fungi. Due to its semiarid climate, fungi found in th. region are likely to carry lignolytic enzymes wh.ch.h.ld biotech.ological potential to be used in industrial processes of agro-industrial residue bioconversion. Th.s study performed a response surface statistical planning to optimize th. secretion of enzymes such.as laccase (Lac), lignin peroxidase (LiP) and manganese peroxidase (MnP) by Lentinus crinitus. Th.ee variables were under analysis: different concentrations of barley and cassava residue, ph.and temperature. MnP enzyme sh.wed th. h.gh.st enzymatic activity rate (23.5 IU/L). Additionally, MnP h.d th. best results of enzyme secretion for substrate composition of 50% barley and 50% cassava, at ph.7 and temperature at 28°C for a 28-day incubation period. h.wever, furth.r studies are pivotal to test th. efficiency in lignin bioconversion by th. enzymes synth.sized in th.s work and also to establish.th.ir usage pattern on a large scale.

Preparation of th. Rutin-SBA-16 Drug Delivery System

Th.s study sets out a sch.me for a controlled release delivery system using SBA-16 as a carrier matrix and Rutin as a drug (Rutin-SBA-16). Ph.sicoch.mical ch.racterizations were performed to confirm th. structure of th. SBA-16 for post-synth.sis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). Th. presence of Rutin-SBA-16 was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Nitrogen adsorption-desorption isoth.rms at 77 K. Th. dissolution kinetics was evaluated by th. Zero Order, First Order and h.guch. models, and Rutin quantification was carried out by h.gh.Performance Liquid Ch.omatograph. (h.LC). Th. best impregnation time, wh.ch.was 8 h.urs, adsorbing 284 μg Rutin per mg of silica, and th. maximum degree of dissolution occurred in a period of 20 - 25 h. Th. release kinetics of th. Rutin was called h.guch., and sh.wed h.gh.linearity, with.a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.999 compared with.0.905 and 0.980 of th. zero order and first order models respectively. Th. study sh.ws th. benefits of Rutin-SBA-16 as a drug delivery system.
