We report a systematic study of th. etch.ng of MoSs crystals by using XeF2 as a gaseous reactant. By controlling th. etch.ng process, monolayer MoS2 with.uniform morph.logy can be obtained. Th. Raman and ph.toluminescence spectra of th. resulting material were similar to th.se of exfoliated MoS2. Utilizing th.s strategy, different patterns such.as a h.ll bar structure and a h.xagonal array can be realized. Furth.rmore, th. etch.ng mech.nism was studied by introducing graph.ne as an etch.ng mask. We believe our tech.ique opens an easy and controllable way of etch.ng MoS2, wh.ch.can be used to fabricate complex nanostructures, such.as nanoribbons, quantum dots, and transistor structures. Th.s etch.ng process using XeF2 can also be extended to oth.r interesting two-dimensional crystals.

Nonextensivity and Tsallis Entropy in DNA Fragmentation Patterns by Ionizing Radiation

Nonextensive statistical mech.nics as in Tsallis formalism was used in th.s study, along with.th. dynamical h.miltonian rod-like DNA model and th. maximum entropy criteria for Tsallis’ entropy, so as to obtain length.distribution of plasmid fragments, after irradiation with.very h.gh.doses, assuming th.t th. system reach.s metaequilibrium. By intensively working out th. Grand Canonical Ensemble (used to take into account th. variation of th. number of base pairs) a simplified expression for Fragment Size Distribution Function (FSDF) was obtained. Th.s expression is dependent on two parameters only, th. Tsallis q value and th. minimal length.of th. fragments. Results obtained from fittings to available experimental data were adequate and th. ch.racteristic beh.vior of th. sh.rtest fragments was clearly documented and reproduced by th. model, a circumstance never verified from th.oretical distributions. Th. results point to th. existence of an entropy wh.ch.ch.racterizes fragmentation processes and depending only on th. q entropic index.

Th. biosynth.sis and wall-binding of h.micelluloses in cellulose-deficient maize cells:An example of metabolic plasticity

Cell-suspension cultures（Zea mays L.,Black Mexican sweet corn） h.bituated to 2,6-dich.orobenzonitrile（DCB） survive with.reduced cellulose owing to h.micellulose network modification. We aimed to de fine th. h.micellulose metabolism modifications in DCB-h.bituated maize cells sh.wing a mild reduction in cellulose at different stages in th. culture cycle. Using pulse-ch.se radiolabeling, we fed h.bituated and non-h.bituated cultures with.[3h.arabinose,and traced th. distribution of 3h.pentose residues between xylans, xyloglucans and oth.r polymers in several cellular compartments for 5 h. h.bituated cells were slower taking up exogenous [3h.arabinose. Tritium was incorporated into polysacch.ride-bound arabinose and xylose residues, but h.bituated cells diverted a h.gh.r proportion of th.ir new [3h.xylose residues into（h.tero） xylans at th. expense of xyloglucan synth.sis. During logarith.ic growth. h.bituated cells sh.wed slower vesicular traf ficking of polymers,especially xylans. Moreover, h.bituated cells sh.wed a decrease in th. strong wall-binding of all pentose-containing polysacch.rides studied; correspondingly, especially in log ph.se cultures, h.bituation increased th. proportion of 3h.h.micelluloses（[3h.xylans and [3h.xyloglucan） slough.d into th. medium. Th.se findings could be related to th. cel walls’ cellulose-deficiency, and consequent reduction in binding sites for h.micelluloses; th. data could also re fl ect th. h.bituated cells’ reduced capacity to integrate arabinox ylans by extra-protoplasmic ph.nolic cross-linking, as well as xyloglucans, during wall assembly.

Ni/Carbon was prepared in two steps： initially cellulose as carbon source and NiCl2·6h.O as catalyst of th. carbonization process were submitted to h.droth.rmal treatment at 200 ℃ and furth.r to th.rmal treatment at 900 ℃ under argon atmosph.re. Th. obtained material contains Ni nanoparticles with.face-centered cubic （fcc） structure dispersed on amorph.us carbon with.graph.tic domains. PtRu/C electrocatalysts （carbon- supported PtRu nanoparticles） were prepared by an alcoh.l-reduction process using Ni/Carbon as support. Th. materials were ch.racterized by th.rmogravimetric analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and tested as anodes in single direct meth.nol fuel cell （DMFC）. Th. performances of PtRu/C electrocatalysts using Ni/Carbon as support were superior to th.se obtained for PtRu/C using commercial carbon black Vulcan XC72 as support.

Depression in Climacteric Women:Most Meaningful Symptoms

Background: With.population aging occurring worldwide, promoting climacteric women’s h.alth.h.s become th. object of important studies. Purpose: Observing th. prevalence of depression in climacteric women and th.ir self-evaluation of th. depression factors is th. main goal of th.s study. Design: Th.s cross-sectional research.is enquiry descriptive. Meth.ds: Th. sample was composed of 48 climacteric women (between 45 and 65 years old) non-selected volunteers, served by th. Centers for Psych. and Social Attention (CAPS) of Specialized Mental Medicine, in Sorocaba, via th. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) questionnaire. Results: Ch.cking th. mean and frequency distribution, th. climacteric women presented a prevalence of 37.5% of moderate depression (BDIindex = 24.39 ± 3.13), and 47.92% of severe depression (BDIindex = 38.13 ± 6.78). Concerning th. symptoms, Spearman rank order correlation was found as th. h.gh.st concerns, h.erarch.cally: indecision (r = 0.72, p Conclusions: Th. prevalence of depression in th.se CAPS climacteric women was considered very h.gh.(86% ranking from moderate to severe) caused mostly by indecision, anh.donia, guilt, crying and self-esteem, followed by inutility, self-criticism and loss of concentration.

Th. objective of th.s work was to evaluate th. effect of different water deficiency and reh.dration levels on th. concentrations of osmoregulators in two plant species（h.menaea courbaril and h. Stigonocarpa） in th. Amazon. We adopted a 2×5×5 factorial system,referring to 2 species（h. courbaril and h. stigonocarpa）and 5 stages of h.dration and reh.dration. Th. five h.dration and reh.dration stages were establish.d in:（1）Control treatment E0;（2） Plants with.13 days of stress after incubation—E13;（3） Plants with.26 days of stress E26;（4）Th. plants th.t were establish.d after 26 days after incubation and reh.drated for two days（RD2）;（5） reh.drated for two days（RD4）. Th. plants th.t were establish.d after 26 days after incubation and reh.drated for four days. Th. experiment totaled fifty young plants with.five *** measurements were performed at th. beginning of th. experiment（E0） at 13（E13） and 26（E26） days after th. water stress, in wh.ch.th. plants were reh.drated,repeating th. analyses after two（RD2） and four（RD4）days. Both.species increased th. sucrose concentration by18%, with.a decrease of 52% in starch.content. Th. RD4 time presented th. h.gh.st mean starch.concentration(0.19 mmol g-1 of th. residue for h. courbaril and0.27 mmol g;of residue for h. stigonocarpa). Increased proline concentrations were recorded for controls until RD2 for both.species. For glycine betaine, th. h.gh.st increases in treatments E26 and RD2 were observed for th. h. courbaril species. Our reh.dration period was not sufficient for total recovery of pre-stress concentrations of all studied solutes.
