This issue of Journal of Renewable Materials is a special issue dedicated to the 15th Brazilian Polymer Conference(15th CBPol)which was held in Bento Gonçalves,Rio Grande do sul state,Brazil,from 27 to 31 October,2019[1].CBPol is the main scientific forum in the field of polymer science and technology in *** conference has been held biannually since 1991 and in this event had almost 900 participants mainly from Brazil,but also from Argentina,Chile,Peru,UsA,Canada,Belgium,France,Great Britain,Portugal and spain,with 60%students and 40%professionals.A total of 1,100 papers from 2725 authors were presented,from which 25%(280 papers)was in the field of Biomaterials showing the importance of these materials which are in general based on renewable *** 280 works were developed mainly by researchers from Brazilian institutions(universities and research institutes),mainly from the south and southeast regions of the *** subject of more than 70%of the works was dedicated on vegetal raw materials,medicinal applications,packaging and composite materials.

Two distinct lignocellulosic fractions(rind and core)can be obtained through a physical separation of sugarcane *** presenting differences in morphology,both fractions can be employed to produce pulps and *** pulps and paper sheets produced from the core and rind fractions were characterized by their chemical composition,physical properties and mechanical *** pulps obtained from the core presented a higher amount of fines,lower drainage ability and rendered denser and stiffer *** pulps from the rind,which have a higher content of fibers and higher degree of polymerization,produced sheets with higher air permeability and water *** paper sheets presented mechanical and physical properties comparable to commercial papers and papers from different cellulosic *** different properties exhibited by the papers produced from each fraction allow their use for distinct purposes,and expands the opportunities in the context of sugarcane biorefinery.

The use of carbon from waste biomass has the potential to buffer the drawbacks of Li-s batteries and improve their overall performance. Chrome-Tanned-Leathershavings(CTLs) are undesirable wastes, highly available for transformation into porous carbon. Microwave activation is an efficient state-of-the-art procedure to obtain unique porous structures and nitrogen incorporation can improve the performance of porous carbons. This study proposes the transformation of CTLs into a microwave activated porous carbon, and then was modified to introduce nitrogen. A microporous activated carbon with a specific surface area of 556 m2g-1 with honeycomb-like structure was obtained. Both urea thermal decomposition and ethanolamine impregnation improves the nitrogen and amine presence of surface groups. However,the results indicated that only urea treatment was effective in improving the initial capacity of the cell(1363 mAhg-1), which is probably linked with the sorption of long-chain polysulfides. This investigation confirms that it is possible to obtain carbon materials from CTLs, for use as sulfur-host cathodes in Li-s batteries, and improve their performance with urea thermal decomposition. Furthermore, a Radial basis function neural network was fitted to provide statistical support to the experimental results. The trained model corroborated the importance of nitrogen content of the carbons in the discharge capacity of the cells.

LHD's are expensive vehicles; therefore, it is important to accurately define the financial consequences associated with the investment of purchasing the mining equipment. This study concentrates on longterm incremental and sensitivity analysis to determine whether it is feasible to incorporate current battery technology into these machines. When revenue was taken into account, decreasing the amount of haulage in battery operated equipment by 5% or 200 kg per h amounts to a $4.0 × 10~4 loss of profit per year. On average it was found that using battery operated equipment generated $9.5 × 10~4 more in income annually, reducing the payback period from seven to two years to pay back the additional $1.0 × 10~5 investment of buying battery powered equipment over cheaper diesel equipment. Due to the estimated 5% increase in capital, it was observed that electric vehicles must possess a lifetime that is a minimum of one year longer than that of diesel equipment.

Quasi-freestanding graphene on Ni（110）： A graphene/ metal contact with suppressed interface states

Graphene/Ni（110） has been studied by time-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure. The C ls core level shows a splitting typical of periodically rippled interfaces. The analysis of the C K-edge reveals that the interface states previously observed for graphene/Ni（111） are suppressed in graphene/Ni（110）. This suppression is due to the reduced hybridization of the Dirac-cone electrons in graphene with the d-bands of the （110）-oriented nickel contacts. Our results show that, contrary to commensurate growth of graphene on Ni（111）, epitaxially grown graphene on Ni（110） behaves as a quasi-freestanding sheet, as the lattice mismatch gives rise to a moir6 reconstruction.

Duplex stainless steels（Dsss） are widely used in industry for their desirable properties. Any fusion welding technique modifies the microstructure and, consequently, the properties of the material. This paper presents a parametric study of the variables that determine the energy contribution（current, voltage and welding speed） and the structural modifications produced during gas metal arc welding. The analysis comprises metallographic study,phase balance, dimensioning of the weld beads and tensile and hardness tests. The influence of the variables studied on the thermal cycles obtained（temperatures reached and cooling rate） was determined by using a finite element model. The results showed that, in addition to the indicated parameters, the parameter power transfer per volume（W/m3） and the geometry in the bead must be controlled due to their influence on the heat flow distribution and phase balance.

Anthropomorphic hands have received increasing research interest in the fields of robotics and *** it is not yet clear how to evaluate their *** in the kinematic chain is essential to achieve both functionality and cosmesis.A few previous works have addressed the definition of anthropomorphism indexes,although they have some limitations in its *** this study,three different anthropomorphism indexes have been defined to compare the kinematic chain of artificial hands with that of the human *** indexes are based on the comparison of:(I)the parameters of the kinematic chain(dimensions,type of joints,orientations and ranges of motion),(2)the reachable workspace,and(3)common grasping *** artificial hands with different degrees of anthropomorphism have been compared using the three Anthropomorphism Indexes of the Kinematic Chain(AIKC).The results show a high correlation between the first and third AIKC for the hands *** second AIKC presents much lower values than the other two,although they are higher for hands that combine abduction/adduction and flexion/extension movements in the kinematic chain of each *** indexes can be useful during the initial stage of designing artificial hands or evaluating their anthropomorphism.
