Ensemble simulations with the Arctic coupled regional climate model HIRHAM-NAOSIM have been analyzed to investigate atmospheric feedbacks to September sea-ice anomalies in the Arctic in autumn and the following winter. Different ＂low- minus high ice＂ composites have been calculated using selected model runs and different periods. This approach allows us to investigate the robustness of the simulated regional atmospheric feedbacks to detected sea-ice anomalies. Since the position and strength of the September sea-ice anomaly varies between the different ＂low- minus high ice＂ composites, the related simulated atmospheric patterns in autumn differ depending on the specific surface heat flux forcing through the oceaaa-atmosphere interface. However, irrespective of those autumn differences, the regional atmospheric feedback in the following winter is rather insensitive to the applied compositing. Neither the selection of simulations nor the considered period impacts the results. The simulated consistent large-scale atmospheric circulation pattern show-s a wave-like pattern with positive pressure anomaly over the region of the Barents/Kara Seas and Scandinavia/western Russia （＂Scandinavian-Ural blocking＂） and negative pressure anomaly over the East Siberian/Laptev Seas.

Radiotherapy is a critical component of cancer care but can cause osteoporosis and pathological insufficiency fractures in surrounding and otherwise healthy ***,no effective countermeasure exists,and ionizing radiation-induced bone damage continues to be a substantial source of pain and *** purpose of this study was to investigate a small molecule aminopropyl carbazole named P7c3 as a novel radioprotective *** studies revealed that P7c3 repressed ionizing radiation(IR)-induced osteoclastic activity,inhibited adipogenesis,and promoted osteoblastogenesis and mineral deposition in *** also demonstrated that rodents exposed to clinically equivalent hypofractionated levels of IR in vivo develop weakened,osteoporotic ***,the administration of P7c3 significantly inhibited osteoclastic activity,lipid formation and bone marrow adiposity and mitigated tissue loss such that bone maintained its area,architecture,and mechanical *** findings revealed significant enhancement of cellular macromolecule metabolic processes,myeloid cell differentiation,and the proteins LRP-4,TAGLN,ILK,and Tollip,with downregulation of GDF-3,SH2B1,and *** proteins are key in favoring osteoblast over adipogenic progenitor differentiation,cell matrix interactions,and shape and motility,facilitating inflammatory resolution,and suppressing osteoclastogenesis,potentially via Wnt/β-catenin signaling.A concern was whether P7c3 afforded similar protection to cancer ***,and remarkably,at the same protective P7c3 dose,a significant reduction in triple-negative breast cancer and osteosarcoma cell metabolic activity was found in ***,these results indicate that P7c3 is a previously undiscovered key regulator of adipo-osteogenic progenitor lineage commitment and may serve as a novel multifunctional therapeutic strategy,leaving IR an effective clinical tool while diminishing the risk of adverse post-IR *** data uncov

The Monte carlo particle numbering scheme presented here is intended to facilitate interfacing between event generators, detector simulators, and analysis packages used in particle physics. The numbering scheme was introduced in 1988 [1] and a revised version [2,3] was adopted in 1998 in order to allow systematic inclusion of quark model states which are as yet undiscovered and hypothetical particles such as SUSY particles. The numbering scheme is used in several event generators, e.g. HERWIG, PYTHIA, and SHERPA, and interfaces, e.g. /HEPEVT/and HepMc.

It is demonstrated experimentally and confirmed theoretically that highly defective boron nitride showed outstanding performance for oxidative dehydrogenation of *** catalyst is derived from carbon-doped hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets synthesized via a two-step reaction when participating the oxidative dehydrogenation *** first step yields a polymeric precursor with the atomic positions of B,c,N relatively constrained,which is conducive for the formation of carbon atomic clusters uniformly dispersed throughout the BN *** the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene,the nanoscale carbon clusters are removed and highly defective boron nitride(D-BN)is obtained,exposing boron-rich zigzag edges of BN that act as the catalytic *** catalytic performance of D-BN is therefore remarkably better than un-doped *** results indicate that dispersed c-doping in h-BN is highly effective in terms of defect formation and resultant enhanced activity in oxidative dehydrogenation reactions.

In this paper, we report the experimental characterization of highly nonlinear GeSbS chalcogenide glass waveguides. We used a single-beam characterization protocol that accounts for the magnitude and sign of the real and imaginary parts of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility of integrated Ge23Sb7S70 （GeSbS） chalcogenide glass waveguides in the near-infrared wavdength range at λ = 1580 nm. We measured a waveguide nonlinear parameter of 7.0 4- 0.7 W-1 · m-1, which corresponds to a nonlinear refractive index of n2 =（0.93 ± 0.08） ×10-18 m2/W, comparable to that of silicon, but with an 80 times lower two-photon absorption coefficient βTPA = （0.010± 0.003） cm/GW, accompanied with linear propagation losses as low as 0.5 dB/cm. The outstanding linear and nonlinear properties of GeSbS, with a measured nonlinear figure of merit FOM TPA = 6.0 ± 1.4 at λ = 1580 nm, ultimately make it one of the most promising integrated platforms for the realization of nonlinear functionalities.

Background and Aims:There is an unmet need for new bi-omarkers to improve diagnostics and prognostics in primary biliary cholangitis(PBc)and primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSc).Inter-α-inhibitor heavy chain 4(ITIH4)is an abun-dant,liver-produced protein,and its synthesis may be al-tered in liver *** investigated whether ITIH4 plas-ma concentrations were affected in PBc and PSc ***:We developed an immunoassay specific for ITIH4 and determined ITIH4 plasma concentrations in 66 PBc,126 PSc,92 autoimmune hepatitis(AIH),67 chronic hepatitis c(cHc),33 alcoholic hepatitis(AH)patients and 138 healthy controls(Hcs).Hepatic ITIH4 expression was investigated by immunohistochemistry in ***:The mean plas-ma concentration of ITIH4 was almost doubled in PBc[409μg/mL(95%cI:388-431)]and 35%higher in PSc[308μg/mL,(95%cI:296-319)]compared with Hcs[226μg/mL(95%cI:221-231);pc patients,ITIH4 correlated with IgM(rho=0.49,pcholic acid treatment(UDcA)had lower levels of ITIH4 than incomplete responders[395μg/mL(95%cI:364-425)]vs.460μg/mL(95%cI:421-498);p=0.02].Four weeks of UDcA treatment had no effect(p=0.19).In-creased ITIH4 immunohistochemical staining was seen in a liver biopsy from a PBc ***4 levels in AIH[224μg/mL(95%cI:208-241)]and Hcs were similar(p=0.8).ITIH4 levels were lower in AH[199μg/mL(95%cI:175-223)]and cHc[202μg/mL(192-212)]patients than in Hcs(pconclusions:The plasma concentration of ITIH4 was highly elevated in patients with PBc and PSc,suggesting that ITIH4 should be further investigated as a biomarker in cholestatic liver disease.

Background: Due to new therapeutic options in thoracic oncology, the pathological diagnosis of bronchial carcinoma has become more challenging. The majority of bronchial cancer is diagnosed from small biopsy specimens and the diagnosis often based on cytological methods. Aims: In this study, we reevaluated cytologic specimens in order to determine the diagnostic reliability of pulmonary cytopathologic techniques performed in our department. Material and methods: In our center bronchial lavage/bronchoalveolar lavage (BL/BAL) specimens are obtained both before and after forceps biopsy (FB) and subsequently processed. Retrospective data from a period of 60 months were retrieved from the institutional files. Sensitivity, specificity, as well as accuracy of cytological tumor typing were determined using histopathology of FB as gold standard. Also, the diagnostic yield of BL/BAL before and after FB was determined. Results: 678 cases were retrieved from the institutional files. The sensitivity and specificity of cytology were 83.0% and 83.4%, respectively. By FB in 3.9% of cytologically diagnosed non-small cell lung carcinomas (NScLc) a histological assignment to a NScLc entity was not possible. conclusions: cytology is a reliable diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of lung malignancies. High diagnostic accuracy is achieved by a combination of BL/BAL before and after FB. The diagnostic yield of BL/BAL after FB was significantly higher than BL/BAL before FB. Subsequent tumor typing of cytologically diagnosed NScLc was feasible in more than 95% of cases.

Fertilizer phosphorus(P)is a finite resource,necessitating the development of innovative solutions for P fertilizer efficiency in agricultural ***-inositol hexakisphosphate(phytate)constitutes the majority of identified organic P in many soil types and is poorly available to *** phytase-producing biofertilizers into soil presents a viable and environmentally acceptable way of utilizing P from phytate,while reducing the need for mineral P application.A deeper understanding of the microbial ecology in relation to degradation of phytate under natural soil conditions is however needed to obtain successful biofertilizer candidates able to compete in complex soil *** we present the development of a microcosm for studying microbial communities able to colonize and utilize ca-phytate hotspots in *** results provide evidence that the recruited microbial population mineralizes ***,quantification of bacterial genes associated with organic P cycling in alkaline soils indicated that the phosphatases PhoX and PhoD may play a larger role in phytate mineralization in soil than previously *** sequencing and BioLog®catabolism studies show that hotspots containing ca-phytate,recruited a different set of microorganisms when compared to those containing an addition of c source alone,with the genus Streptomyces specifically *** propose that Streptomyces represents an hitherto unexplored resource as P biofertilizer with competitive advantage for utilizing caPhy in an inherently competitive soil *** further conclude that the use of our newly designed microcosm presents an innovative approach for isolating soil microorganisms with the potential to degrade precipitated phytate in solum.
