利用ERA40、NCEP 20世纪再分析资料和中国南极中山站到Dome-A断面考察资料,对德国极地与海洋研究所区域气候模式-HIRHAM模拟的南极2 m气温进行了评估,结果发现:(1)模拟的多年平均场空间特征与ERA40和NCEP 20世纪再分析较为接近.(2)模拟存在冷偏差,整个南极地区与EAR40偏冷1.8℃,与NCEP 20世纪再分析偏冷5.1℃.(3)与EAR40偏差存在季节差异,夏季偏冷3.4℃,秋季偏暖0.004℃.进一步分析发现,HIRHAM模式模拟的近地层大气湍流状况与实际状况不同是2 m气温模拟偏差产生的原因:(1)南极夏季近地层观测样本中逆温和非逆温并存,原因是感热通量正负并存,但HIRHAM模式模拟基本全为逆温状况和负感热通量.(2)南极秋、冬季观测基本全为逆温,HIRHAM与之较为吻合,这部分解释了秋、冬季节模式模拟偏差不大的原因.

Learning incorporates a broad range of complex procedures. Machine learning（ML） is a subdivision of artificial intelligence based on the biological learning process. The ML approach deals with the design of algorithms to learn from machine readable data. ML covers main domains such as data mining, difficultto-program applications, and software applications. It is a collection of a variety of algorithms（e.g. neural networks, support vector machines, self-organizing map, decision trees, random forests, case-based reasoning, genetic programming, etc.） that can provide multivariate, nonlinear, nonparametric regression or classification. The modeling capabilities of the ML-based methods have resulted in their extensive applications in science and engineering. Herein, the role of ML as an effective approach for solving problems in geosciences and remote sensing will be highlighted. The unique features of some of the ML techniques will be outlined with a specific attention to genetic programming paradigm. Furthermore,nonparametric regression and classification illustrative examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of ML for tackling the geosciences and remote sensing problems.

Distribution and effects of tree leaf litter on vegetation composition and biomass in a forest–grassland ecotone

Aims After abandonment of grasslands,secondary succession leads to the invasion by woody *** process begins with the accumulation of tree litter in the forest–grassland *** objectives were to determine the relationships between litter amounts and vegetation composition and cover along natural forest–grassland ecotones and to experimentally study the initial effects of tree litter accumulation on grassland vegetation and on microsite *** We established 11 transects varying from 12 to 15 m in length in different forest–grassland ecotones in the Lahn-Dill highlands,Germany,and measured the mass and cover of tree litter and the cover and composition of vegetation at five sequential positions along each transect by using 1 m2 plots with five *** a field experiment,we established plots subjected to different litter amounts(0,200 and 600g m^(−2))and evaluated changes in grassland vegetation,soil temperature and soil nutrient availability below the litter *** Findings Tree litter amounts decrease from 650 to 65g m^(−2) across the forest–grassland *** changed from shrubs and annual species(adapted to more stressful conditions)in the forests edge to grasses,rosettes and hemirosette species(with higher competitive abilities)in the *** anthropogenic forest–grassland ecotones showed abrupt edges,and the two adjacent ecosystems were characterized by different species pools and functional *** the field experiment,the presence of a litter layer reduced vegetation biomass and cover;the species richness was only reduced in the treatment with high litter(600g m^(−2)).Additionally,adding litter on top of vegetation also reduced thermal amplitude and the number of frost days,while increasing the availability of some nutrients,such as nitrogen and aluminium,the latter being an indicator of soil *** a tree litter layer of 600g m^(−2) in grassland areas had strong effects on the compos

Prediction of Extractable Cd,Pb and Zn in Contaminated Woody Habitat Soils Using a Change Point Detection Method

Accumulation of heavy metals in soils poses a potential risk to plant production, which is related to availability of the metals in soil. The phytoavailability of metals is usually evaluated using extracting solutions such as salts, acids or chelates. The purpose of this study was to identify the most significant soil parameters that can be used to predict the concentrations of acetic and citric acidextractable cadmium(Cd), lead(Pb) and zinc(Zn) in contaminated woody habitat topsoils. Multiple linear regression models were established using two analysis strategies and three sets of variables based on a dataset of 260 soil samples. The performance of these models was evaluated using statistical parameters. Cation exchange capacity, CaCO_3, organic matter, assimilated P, free Al oxide,sand and the total metal concentrations appeared to be the main soil parameters governing the solubility of Cd, Pb and Zn in acetic and citric acid solutions. The results strongly suggest that the metal solubility in extracting solutions is extractable concentrationdependent since models were overall improved by incorporating a change point. This change point detection method was a powerful tool for predicting extractable Cd, Pb and Zn. Suitable predictions of extractable Cd, Pb and Zn concentrations were obtained, with correlation coefficient(adjusted r) ranging from 0.80 to 0.99, given the high complexity of the woody habitat soils studied. Therefore,the predictive models can constitute a decision-making support tool for managing phytoremediation of contaminated soils, making recommendations to control the potential bioavailability of metals. The relationships between acetic and/or citric acid-extractable concentrations and the concentrations of metals into the aboveground parts of plants need to be predicted, in order to make their temporal monitoring easier.

Hidden Crises and Communication： An Interactional Analysis of Hidden Crises

In this paper I describe the ways in which the communication discipline can make a hidden crisis transparent. For this purpose I examine the concept of crisis entrepreneurship from a communication point of view. Using discourse analysis, I analyse the discursive practices of crisis entrepreneurs in the domain of education in the Netherlands. This paper is part of my Ph.D. project in which I examine the dilemmas encountered by crisis entrepreneurs and the interactional solutions they choose in addressing a crisis. In my Ph.D. project I have analysed how crisis entrepreneurs use discursive practices：（1） to show thefactuality of the problem. For example, the way the problem is presented is too theoretical and is not a problem in reality; （2） to present the credibility of the messenger as an authentic, legitimate spokesman. Crisis entrepreneurs may be accused of wanting to attract attention to their own cause; （3） to create the accountability for the problem and the solution. For example, crisis entrepreneurs can be accused of nursing personal grievances or of drawing attention to the issue without actively attempting to solve it. The conclusion is that a communication professional is able to recognize a problem raised by crisis entrepreneurs. Knowledge of interactional dilemmas helps communication professionals understand the potential of crisis entrepreneurs. A communication professional can therefore contribute to the recognition of crises by acknowledging that a crisis entrepreneur is someone who can have a strong hand in the public agenda, i.e., public affairs that are important to the authorities.

Three striking and impactful extreme cold weather events successively occurred across East Asia and North America during the mid-winter of 2020/*** events open a new window to detect possible underlying physical *** analysis here indicates that the occurrences of the three events resulted from integrated effects of a concurrence of anomalous thermal conditions in three oceans and interactive Arctic-lower latitude atmospheric circulation processes,which were linked and influenced by one major sudden stratospheric warming(SSW).The North Atlantic warm blob initiated an increased poleward transient eddy heat flux,reducing the Barents-Kara seas sea ice over a warmed ocean and disrupting the stratospheric polar vortex(SPV)to induce the major *** Rossby wave trains excited by the North Atlantic warm blob and the tropical Pacific La Nina interacted with the Arctic tropospheric circulation anomalies or the tropospheric polar vortex to provide dynamic settings,steering cold polar air *** long memory of the retreated sea ice with the underlying warm ocean and the amplified tropospheric blocking highs from the midlatitudes to the Arctic intermittently fueled the increased transient eddy heat flux to sustain the SSW over a long time *** displaced or split SPV centers associated with the SSW played crucial roles in substantially intensifying the tropospheric circulation anomalies and moving the jet stream to the far south to cause cold air outbreaks to a rarely observed extreme *** results have significant implications for increasing prediction skill and improving policy decision making to enhance resilience in“One Health,One Future”.
