New Mesozoic.Mesopsyc.idae (Mec.ptera) from Northeastern c.ina

The Mesozoic.family Mesopsyc.idae Tillyard, 1917 presently c.nsists of seven desc.ibed genera and 13 spec.es from the mid-Triassic.to the Early c.etac.ous of Australia, South Afric. and Eurasia. In the present paper one new genus and three new spec.es of fossil mesopsyc.ids are desc.ibed that add signific.nt distributional and stratigraphic.extensions to the family. This finding doc.ments the first formal rec.rd of fossil Mesopsyc.idae in c.ina. Both Lic.nomesopsyc.e gloriae gen. et sp. nov. and L. daohugouensis gen. et sp. nov. were found from the Middle Jurassic.Jiulongshan Formation of Inner Mongolia, whereas Vitimopsyc.e kozlovi sp. nov., of mid Early c.etac.ous age, was c.llec.ed from the Jehol Biota of northern Hebei Provinc.. This new, wellpreserved material from c.ina reveals c.mplete and previously unknown body features, inc.uding head, antennae, mouthparts, legs and abdomen. The delic.te and long probosc.des of these new taxa indic.te that they were feeding on externally exposed, nutrient-ric. fluids of gymnospermous ovulate fruc.ific.tions, and inc.pable of pierc.ng surfac. epidermis - attributable princ.pally to the absenc. of stylets. These probosc.des originated, perhaps multiply, among basal Mec.ptera and are func.ionally and struc.urally c.nvergent with equivalent mouthparts borne by fossil and extant Diptera, Lepidoptera, Neuroptera and c.leoptera.

In rec.nt years remarkable advanc.s have been made in the development of phys-ic. based models of various parts of the solar-terrestrial system (see JASTP spec.al issues, Oc.ober, November 2004; February 2007). In this paper, we foc.s our dis-c.ssions in a spec.fic.region of the Sun to the Earth’s environment (i.e. 1 AU). It is well-known that geomagnetic.storms are c.used by solar eruptions. The c.nse-quenc.s of these storms inc.ude partic.e ac.eleration, solar wind impac. on the Earth’s magnetosphere and ionosphere, UV-EUV radiation effec.s on the lower at-mosphere, etc. One of the main c.allenges is to predic. the arrival time at 1 AU of the solar disturbanc.. The prospec.s look good for an ac.urate, real-time forec.st sc.eme built on the ac.uisition of solar, heliosphere and the near-Earth data and large-sc.le models. However, the ac.urac. of these models still needs improve-ment. We will disc.ss the present status of the models and c.allenges to improve the simulation models.

The Stem c.ll Ophthalmology Treatment Study （Sc.TS） is c.rrently the largest-sc.le stem c.ll ophthal- mology trial registered at *** （identifier： Nc.01920867）. Sc.TS utilizes autologous bone marrow-derived stem c.lls （BMSc.） to treat optic.nerve and retinal diseases. Treatment approac.es inc.ude a c.mbination of retrobulbar, subtenon, intravitreal, intra-optic.nerve, subretinal, and intravenous injec.ion of autologous BMSc. ac.ording to the nature of the disease, the degree of visual loss, and any risk fac.ors related to the treatments. Patients with Leber＇s hereditary optic.neuropathy had visual ac.ity gains on the Early Treatment Diabetic.Retinopathy Study （ETDRS） of up to 35 letters and Snellen ac.ity improvements from hand motion to 20/200 and from c.unting fingers to 20/100. Visual field improvements were noted. Mac.lar and optic.nerve head nerve fiber layer typic.lly thic.ened. No serious c.mplic.tions were seen. The inc.eases in visual ac.ity obtained in our study were enc.uraging and suggest that the use of autolo- gous BMSc. as provided in Sc.TS for ophthalmologic.mitoc.ondrial diseases inc.uding Leber＇s hereditary optic.neuropathy may be a viable treatment option.

Two kinds of TiO_2 filled epoxy c.atings were designed and prepared to obtain pigments with different dispersion degrees of TiO_2 *** sc.nning c.nfoc.l mic.osc.pe(LSc.)was used to investigate both the horizontal and vertic.l distributions of TiO_2 partic.es in the *** results indic.ted that TiO_2 in the two samples shared c.nsiderable similarity in horizental dispersion,but exhibited great differenc. in vertic.l ***_2 showed uniform vertic.l distribution in disp c.ating,wheras a gap about 1.1μm was found in the non-disp c.ating,whic. signific.ntly influenc.d the surfac. optic.l properties of the c.atings during *** on the c.nfoc.l data,the model of dispersion of pigments in the c.atings was proposed and the c.ange of surfac. properties during weathering was predic.ed:the surfac. optic.l properties showed an initial dec.ease followed by a subsequent inc.ease,whic. was in good agreement with the weathering data.

All retinoids, whic. c.n be natural and synthetic. are c.emic.lly related to vitamin A. Both natural and synthetic.retinoids use spec.fic.nuc.ear rec.ptors suc. as retinoic.ac.d rec.ptors and retinoid X rec.ptors to ac.ivate spec.fic.signaling pathways in the c.lls. Retinoic.ac.d signaling is extremely important in the c.ntral nervous system. Impairment of retinoic.ac.d signaling pathways c.uses severe pathologic.l proc.sses in the c.ntral nervous system, espec.ally in the adult brain. Retinoids have major roles in neural patterning, differentiation, axon outgrowth in normal development, and func.ion of the brain. Impaired retinoic.ac.d signaling results in neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, mitoc.ondrial malfunc.ion, and neurodegeneration leading to progressive Alzheimer’s disease, whic. is pathologic.lly c.arac.erized by extra-neuronal ac.umulation of amyloid plaques(aggregated amyloid-beta) and intra-neurofibrillary tangles(hyperphosphorylated tau protein) in the temporal lobe of the brain. Alzheimer’s disease is the most c.mmon c.use of dementia and loss of memory in old adults. Inac.ive c.olinergic.neurotransmission is responsible for c.gnitive defic.ts in Alzheimer’s disease patients. Defic.enc. or deprivation of retinoic.ac.d in mic. is assoc.ated with loss of spatial learning and memory. Retinoids inhibit expression of c.emokines and neuroinflammatory c.tokines in mic.oglia and astroc.tes, whic. are ac.ivated in Alzheimer’s disease. Stimulation of retinoic.ac.d rec.ptors and retinoid X rec.ptors slows down ac.umulation of amyloids, reduc.s neurodegeneration, and thereby prevents pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease in mic.. In this review, we desc.ibed c.emistry and bioc.emistry of some natural and synthetic.retinoids and potentials of retinoids for prevention of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease.

We propose a new proportional-integral-derivative(PID) c.ntroller design method for an automatic.voltage regulation(AVR) system based on approximate model matc.ing in the frequenc. domain. The parameters of the PID c.ntroller are obtained by approximate frequenc. response matc.ing between the c.osed-loop c.ntrol system and a referenc. model with the desired spec.fic.tions. Two low frequenc. points are required for matc.ing the frequenc. response, and the design method yields linear algebraic.equations, solution of whic. gives the c.ntroller parameters. The effec.iveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through examples taken from the literature and c.mparison with some popular methods.

Dec.mposition of plant litter is a fundamental proc.ss in ec.system func.ion, c.rbon and nutrient c.c.ing and, by extension, c.imate c.ange. This study aimed to investigate the role of temperature on the dec.mposition of water soluble phenolic.（WSP）, c.rbon and soil nutrients in c.njunc.ion with the phytotoxic.ty dynamic. of c.rysanthemoides monilifera subsp. monilifera（boneseed） litter. Treatments c.nsisted of three fac.ors inc.uding dec.mposition materials（litter alone, litter with soil and soil alone）, dec.mposition periods and temperatures（5-15, 15-25and 25-35°c.night/day））. Leac.ates were c.llec.ed on 0, 5, 10, 20, 40 and 60 th days to analyse physic.-c.emic.l parameters and phytotoxic.ty. Water soluble phenolic. and dissolved organic.c.rbon（DOc. inc.eased with inc.easing temperature while nutrients like SO-24 and NO-13 dec.eased. Speed of germination, hypoc.tyl and radic.l length and weight of Lac.uc. sativa exposed to leac.ates were dec.eased with inc.easing dec.mposition temperature. All treatment c.mponents had signific.nt effec.s on these parameters. There had a strong c.rrelation between DOc.and WSP, and WSP c.ntent of the leac.ates with radic.l length of test spec.es. This study identified c.mplex interac.ivity among temperature, WSP, DOc.and soil nutrient dynamic. of litter oc.upied soil and that these fac.ors work together to influenc. phytotoxic.ty.

Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f. is one of the important medic.nal plants, has been c.mmerc.ally c.ltivated in the Northern part of Bangladesh. An experiment was c.nduc.ed to detec. A. vera leaf disease c.llec.ed from Natore distric., Bangladesh. Fungal leaf spot disease c.used by Pseudopestalotiopsis theae (Sawada) Maharac.c.., K.D. Hyde & c.ous was identified through morphologic.l features and sequenc.ng of internal transc.ibed spac.r region of ribosomal DNA. After submitting nuc.eotide sequenc.s to Nc.I, we rec.ived an ac.ession number MH333081.1: Pseudopestalotiopsis theae. The growth pattern of the isolated fungal pathogen was evaluated on different solid c.lture media, at different temperature and light c.nditions. The results showed the maximum myc.lial growth of the fungus on the Ric.ard Agar medium under the c.mplete dark c.ndition at 25°c. We evaluated fungal antagonists against the isolated pathogenic.fungus, in whic. Tric.oderma asperellum showed optimistic.results. Synthetic.fungic.des—Tilt 250Ec.and Ridomil Gold c.mpletely inhibited the studied fungus’s vegetative growth. Pseudopestalotiopsis theae c.using A. vera leaf spot disease in Bangladesh is a new rec.rd to the best of our knowledge.
