During the operations of purging and disposal of sediments of a reservoir it is necessary to know the values of turbidity in the river downstream in natural condition,in the absence of dams or river training *** paper shows that under these conditions the ratio of the average values of sediment discharge to the annual maximum value of water discharge is a function of the average annual *** can be considered as representative synthetic index of the climatic conditions,the lithological features and the land cover of the basin,and the geometric characteristics of the river *** proposed relationship of sediment discharge as a function of water discharge were validated on the basis of data collected from different Italian regions that have very different morphological,geo-lithological and rainfall features and that are characterised by a basin area changing between a few dozen and thousands of square *** results can be considered satisfying.

This paper proposes a new methodological approach to silted reservoir management and defence,which combines the reservoir rehabilitation process and the utilization of the recovered water volumes and *** approach,strategic from both the economical and environmental points of view,is here defined as Economic Environmental defence(EED) of a *** EED approach is applied to the case study of Guardialfiera reservoir,where the available experimental data allowed the estimation of siltation up to date,the analysis of the distribution of sediment particle size along the reservoir bottom and the possibility to propose a feasible utilization of water and sediments resulting from the reservoir rehabilitation.

Present work introduces the sustainable useful storage capacity as the minimum storage capacity able to satisfy the water demand for drinkable, industrial and irrigational purposes and necessary in order to overcome water deficit situations which, at least in Central Southern Italy, occur in the summer, when agricultural demand is really high. Sediment volumes to be removed from the reservoir bottom will be calculated as the difference between the current and the sustainable useful storage capacities of the reservoir in study. The calculation methodology of the useful sustainable storage capacity, based on the reservoir water balance between inflows at the reservoir and water demand, has been applied to the Camastra reservoir (Basilicata, Southern Italy), for which numerous reliable data including more than 40 years of inflows and water supplied volumes and data relative to 7 bathymetric surveys are available. Result analysis shows that this methodology, at least in the study case, enables sediment quantities to be removed more sustainably from a technical, economical and environmental point of view.

The possibility of determining the integrity of a real structure subjected to non-invasive and non-destructive monitoring,such as that carried out by a series of accelerometers placed on the structure,is certainly a goal of extreme and current *** the present work,the results obtained from the processing of experimental data of a real structure are *** analyzed structure is a lattice structure approximately 9 m high,monitored with 18 uniaxial accelerometers positioned in pairs on 9 different *** data used refer to continuous monitoring that lasted for a total of 1 year,during which minor damage was caused to the structure by alternatively removing some bracings and repositioning them in the *** methodologies detecting damage based on decomposition techniques of the acquired data were used and tested,as well as a methodology combining the two *** results obtained are extremely interesting,as all the minor damage caused to the structure was identified by the processing methods used,based solely on the monitored data and without any knowledge of the real structure being *** results use 15 acquisitions in environmental conditions lasting 10 min each,a reasonable amount of time to get immediate feedback on possible damage to the structure.

Utilizing machine learning techniques for data-driven diagnosis of high temperature PEM fuel cells is beneficial and meaningful to the system durability. Nevertheless, ensuring the robustness of diagnosis remains a critical and challenging task in real application. To enhance the robustness of diagnosis and achieve a more thorough evaluation of diagnostic performance, a robust diagnostic procedure based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and a new method for evaluation of the diagnosis robustness was proposed and investigated in this work. To improve the diagnosis robustness: (1) the degradation mechanism of different faults in the high temperature PEM fuel cell was first analyzed via the distribution of relaxation time of EIS to determine the equivalent circuit model (ECM) with better interpretability, simplicity and accuracy;(2) the feature extraction was implemented on the identified parameters of the ECM and extra attention was paid to distinguishing between the long-term normal degradation and other faults;(3) a Siamese Network was adopted to get features with higher robustness in a new embedding. The diagnosis was conducted using 6 classic classification algorithms—support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), logistic regression (LR), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), and Naive Bayes employing a dataset comprising a total of 1935 collected EIS. To evaluate the robustness of trained models: (1) different levels of errors were added to the features for performance evaluation;(2) a robustness coefficient (Roubust_C) was defined for a quantified and explicit evaluation of the diagnosis robustness. The extension of dual-comb spectroscopy(DCS)to all wavelengths of light along with its ability to provide ultralarge dynamic range and ultra-high spectral resolution,renders it extremely useful for a diverse array of applications in physics,chemistry,atmospheric science,space science,as well as medical *** this work,we report on an innovative technique of quartz-enhanced multiheterodyne resonant photoacoustic spectroscopy(QEMR-PAS),in which the beat frequency response from a dual comb is frequency down-converted into the audio frequency *** this way,gas molecules act as an optical-acoustic converter through the photoacoustic effect,generating heterodyne sound *** conventional DCS,where the light wave is detected by a wavelengthdependent photoreceiver,QEMR-PAS employs a quartz tuning fork(QTF)as a high-Q sound transducer and works in conjunction with a phase-sensitive detector to extract the resonant sound component from the multiple heterodyne acoustic tones,resulting in a straightforward and low-cost hardware *** novel QEMRPAS technique enables wavelength-independent DCS detection for gas sensing,providing an unprecedented dynamic range of 63 dB,a remarkable spectral resolution of 43 MHz(or~0.3 pm),and a prominent noise equivalent absorption of 5.99×10^(-6)cm^(-1)·Hz-1/2.

Photoacoustic spectroscopy(PAS)as a highly sensitive and selective trace gas detection technique has extremely broad application in many ***,the laser sources currently used in PAS limit the sensing *** to diode laser and quantum cascade laser,the solid-state laser has the merits of high optical power,excellent beam quality,and wide tuning *** we present a long-wave,high-power,wide-tunable,singlelongitudinal-mode solid-state laser used as light source in a PAS sensor for trace gas *** self-built solid-state laser had an emission wavelength of~2μm with Tm:YAP crystal as the gain material,with an excellent wavelength and optical power stability as well as a high beam *** wide wavelength tuning range of 9.44 nm covers the absorption spectra of water and ammonia,with a maximum optical power of~130 mW,allowing dual gas detection with a single laser *** solid-state laser was used as light source in three different photoacoustic detection techniques:standard PAS with microphone,and external-and intra-cavity quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy(QEPAS),proving that solid-state laser is an attractive excitation source in photoacoustic spectroscopy.
