Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the most common primary liver malignant neoplasia. HCC is characterized by a poor prognosis. The need to find new molecular markers for its diagnosis and prognosis has led to a progressive increase in the number of scientific studies on this topic. MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are small noncoding RNA that play a role in almost all main cellular pathways. miRNAs are involved in the regulation of expression of the major tumor-related genes in carcinogenesis, acting as oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. The aim of this review was to identify papers published in 2017 investigating the role of miRNAs in HCC tumorigenesis. miRNAs were classified according to their role in the main molecular pathways involved in HCC tumorigenesis:(1) m TOR;(2) Wnt;(3) JAK/STAT;(4) apoptosis; and(5) MAPK. The role of miRNAs in prognosis/response prediction was taken into consideration. Bearing in mind that the analysis of miRNAs in serum and other body fluids would be crucial for clinical management, the role of circulating miRNAs in HCC patients was also investigated. The most represented mi RNA-regulated pathway in HCC is m TOR, but apoptosis, Wnt, JAK/STAT or MAPK pathways are also influenced by mi RNA expression levels. These miRNAs could thus be used in clinical practice as diagnostic, prognostic or therapeutic targets for HCC treatment.

Polyphenol and Biogenic Amine Profiles of Albana and Lambrusco Grape Berries and Wines Obtained Following Different Agricultural and Oenological Practices

The levels of polyphenols, anthocyanins, antioxidant activity and of biogenic amines, were measured in white (Albana) and red (Lambrusco) grape berries and wines from the Emilia-Romagna region (Italy) obtained following conventional, organic and biodynamic agricultural and oenological practices. No significant difference was shown among the samples coming from different agricultural and winemaking practices, with few exceptions of single compounds. Biogenic amine amounts were higher in red than in white berries and wines. Putrescine and histamine were the most abundant biogenic amines respectively in berries and wines of both cultivars. Red grapes and wines were richer in anthocyanins and showed higher antioxidant activity than white ones. The total level of polyphenols was similar in red and white berries and wines, but with different metabolite profiles depending on the grape variety.

BACKGROUND Metallosis is the result of metallic wear debris in the soft tissues and is associated to both local and systemic inflammatory *** has been reported after total hip and total knee arthroplasty(TKA),but rarely after a unicompartimental knee arthroplasty(UKA).In the context of UKA metallosis,surgeons often opt for revision using a ***,in this paper,the authors successfully treated UKA revising the metal back *** SUMMARY Prior to treat our patient we conducted a literature research through which we identified eleven cases of metallosis after UKA,ten(90.9%)were treated revising using though a *** one case was managed through a uni-on-uni revision,reporting high knee *** patient complained worsening pain and function after a snap occurred at 16 mo after UKA *** 18 mo following surgical debridment and uni-on-uni revision surgery,our patient exhibited a relevant improvement in Oxford Knee Score and a reduction of metal ion levels in the *** Our study highlights that in case of metallosis after UKA,the treatment may be based on surgical debridement and just revising the mobilized components.

Ex vivo response to mucosal bacteria and muramyl dipeptide in inflammatory bowel disease

AIM To evaluate how mucosal bacteria impact on the spontaneous and muramyl dipeptide(MDP)-induced inflammation in Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC).METHODS Colonic mucosal biopsies were collected from children with active or remissive CD, UC and controls. Two tissue samples were taken from inflamed mucosal segments(in patients with active disease) or from noninflamed mucosa [in patients in remission or in healthy controls(HC)]. Experiments were performed in the presence or absence of antibiotics, to assess whether the disease-associated microbiota can modulate the cytokine response ex vivo. For this purpose, each specimen was half-cut to compare spontaneous and MDP-induced inflammation in the presence of live bacteria(LB) or antibiotics. After 24 h of culture, an array of 17 cytokines was assessed in supernatants. Statistical analyses were performed to find significant differences in single cytokines or in patterns of cytokine response in the different groups. RESULTS We demonstrated that subjects with CD display a spontaneous production of inflammatory cytokines including granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(G-CSF), interleukin(IL) 6, IL8, IL10 and IL12, that was not significantly influenced by the addition of antibiotics. UC specimens also displayed a trend of increased spontaneous secretion of several cytokines, which however was not significant due to broader variability among patients. After the addition of antibiotics, spontaneous IL8 secretion was significantly higher in UC than in controls. In HC, a trend towards the weakening of spontaneous IL8 production was observed in the presence of live mucosal bacteria with respect to the presence of antibiotics. In contrast, in the presence of LB UC showed an increasing trend of spontaneous IL8 production, while MDP stimulation resulted in lower IL8 production in the presence of antibiotics. H pylori infection and systemic antibodies to CagA and heat shock protein 60 in patients with coronary heart disease

AIM: To determine the overall prevalence of H pylori and CagA positive H pylori infection and the prevalence of other bacterial and viral causes of chronic infection in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD), and the potential role of anti-heat-shock protein 60 (Hsp60) anti- body response to these proteins in increasing the risk of CHD development. METHODS: Eighty patients with CHD and 160 controls were employed. We also compared the levels of anti- heat-shock protein 60 (Hsp60) antibodies in the two groups. The H pylori infection and the CagA status were determined serologically, using commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and a Western blotting method developed in our laboratory. Systemic antibodies to Hsp60 were determined by a sandwich ELISA, using a polyclonal antibody to Hsp60 to sensitise polystyrene plates and a commercially available human Hsp60 as an antigen. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of H pylori infec- tion was 78.7% (n = 63) in patients and 76.2% (n = 122) in controls (P = 0.07). Patients infected by CagA- positive (CagA+) H pylori strains were 71.4% (n = 45) vs 52.4% of infected controls (P = 0.030, OR = 2.27). Sys-temic levels of IgG to Hsp60 were increased in H pylori- negative patients compared with uninfected controls (P < 0.001) and CagA-positive infected patients compared with CagA-positive infected controls (P = 0.007). CONCLUSION: CagA positive H pylori infection may concur to the development of CHD; high levels of anti- Hsp60 antibodies may constitute a marker and/or a con- comitant pathogenic factor of the disease.

Restoration of Posidonia oceanica （L.） Delile Meadows： Is There An Effective Methodology？

Since 1947 （Addy） [1, 2], marine biologists have conducted experiments in order to re-establish meadows using various methods of transplant. A 27-month experiment of germinating and growing Posidonia oceanica （L.） Delile seeds was carried out in two areas near Piombino in the Leghorn Province （Italy）. Seeds in direct contact with the sea bottom were taken from other seaside areas. The leaf growth and the percentage of well-developed plants in the study areas were calculated. The results confirm that this method appears to be a good re-establishment technique despite the problems associated with finding a large number of seeds anywhere along Mediterranean coasts.
