SARS-CoV-2 in inflammatory bowel disease population:Antibodies,disease and correlation with therapy

Over the last years it has started a real revolution in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C. This occurred for the availability of direct-acting antiviral agents that allow to reach sustained virologic response in approximately 90% of cases. In the near future further progress will be achieved with the use of pan-genotypic drugs with high efficacy but without side effects.

Which surgery for ground glass opacity lung nodules?

Objective:Pulmonary ground glass opacity(GGO)nodules represent a significant dilemma in oncology since its diagnosis in clinical practice has increased because of growing application of low dose computed tomography and screening *** aim of this study is to analyze the clinical and pathological features,the overall survival(OS)and disease-free interval(DFI)in surgically resected solitary ground glass nodules in order to assess the surgical treatment of ***:We retrospectively analyzed 49 patients(M/F=25/24)with a mean age of 67.7(range,40-81)years who underwent lung resection for solitary GGO nodules among 570 reviewed CT of patients who were treated for lung neoplasms between 2010 and *** cohort included 22 pure GGO nodules and 27 part solid GGOs(also called mixed GGOs).Results:Median maximum diameter of GGOs,defined as the largest axial diameter of the lesion on the lung-window setting,was 17(range,5-30)*** nodules were removed by wedge resection,segmentectomy,or lobectomy in 17(35%),9(18%),and 23(47%)cases,*** diagnosis was atypical adenomatous hyperplasia(AAH),adenocarcinoma in situ(AIS),minimally invasive adenocarcinoma(MIA),invasive adenocarcinoma(IA)or multifocal adenocarcinoma(MAC)in 4(8.2%),9(18.4%),11(22.4%),22(44.9%)and 3(6.1%)cases,*** a median follow up of 47 months the OS and DFI of the entire cohort was 46.3 and 43 months,*** histotype(P=0.008),the dimension of GGO(P=0.014)and the PET-SUV max(P=0.001)were independent prognostic factors of worse ***,age,previous lung surgery,type of surgical resection and the mediastinal lymph-node evaluation did not impact on OS and *** the 22 pure GGO nodules,we found a 3-year OS and DFI of 98%and 100%respectively,significantly different from 80%and 75%respectively of part-solid GGOs(log-rank P=0.043 and P=0.011).Conclusion:Our data suggest an indolent behaviour of tumour presenting as solitary GGO nodules,especially in case of

Use and Abuse of Privileged Information in Italian Listed Companies

Privileged information has significant importance to listed companies, given both the extent of the markets in which it is used and the relevant effects that it can produce on the prices of financial instruments. The term “privileged information” means information that has not yet been made known to the public, which, if disclosed, is able to affect significantly the prices of the securities of listed issuers. This article aims to prove that in many cases, the effects of privileged information can be adequately represented in financial statements, despite their “confidential” nature. For this purpose, this research proposes the existence of a relationship—which can be virtuous or vicious—between financial statements and privileged information. In order to demonstate this thesis, the author carried out an empirical survey concerning both the economic and the legal sector. For the first one, the research considered the price-sensitive information published by companies listed on the Italian Stock Exchange during the first half of 2018, and the result shows that a lot of privileged information is able to generate accounting effects;for the second one, the empirical survey analyzed some significant judgments passed by the Italian Court of Cassation in the 2000s which confirm the companies’ violation of the duty to present privileged information in financial statements.

Heavy Metals in Soil and Salad in the Proximity of Historical Ferroalloy Emission

Emissions of manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) from ferro-alloy operations has taken place in Valcamonica, a pre-Alp valley in the province of Brescia, Italy, for about a century until 2001. Metal concentrations were measured in the soil of local home gardens and in the cultivated vegetables. Soil analysis was carried out using a portable X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer in both surface soil and at 10 cm depth. A subset of soil samples (n = 23) additionally was analysed using the modified BCR sequential extraction method and ICP-OES for intercalibration with XRF (XRF Mn = 1.33 * total OES Mn – 71.8;R = 0.830, p Lactuca sativa and Chichorium spp.) were analyzed with a Total Reflection X-Ray Fluorescence (TXRF) technique. Vegetable and soil metal measurements were performed in 59 home gardens of Valcamonica, and compared with 23 gardens from the Garda Lake reference area. Results indicate significantly higher levels of soil Mn (median 986 ppm vs 416 ppm), Pb (median 46.1 ppm vs 30.2 ppm), Fe (median 19,800 ppm vs 13,100 ppm) in the Valcamonica compared to the reference area. Surface soil levels of all metals were significantly higher in surface soil compared to deeper soil, consistent with atmospheric deposition. Significantly higher levels of metals were shown also in lettuce from Valcamonica for Mn (median 53.6 ppm vs 30.2) and Fe (median 153 vs 118). Metals in Chichorium spp. did not differ between the two areas. Surface soil metal levels declined with increasing distance from the closest ferroalloy plant, consistent with plant emissions as the source of elevated soil metal levels. A correlation between Mn concentrations in soil and lettuce was also observed. These data show that historic ferroalloy plant activity, which ended nearly a decade before this study, has contributed to the persistence of increased Mn levels in locally grown vegetables.
