Spherical Ag nanoparticles（AgNPs） were biologically synthesized using four different extracts prepared from Parachlorella kessleri algae cultivated for 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks. The influence of algae life cycle on AgNPs formation and effect of different storage conditions on AgNPs long-term stability were investigated. The age of algae influenced the rate of AgNPs synthesis and amount of AgNPs in solution. The age of algae did not influence the AgNPs long-term stability. UV–vis and TEm observation revealed that long-term stability of AgNPs can be influenced by storage temperatures, and low temperature positively influences the AgNPs stability. AgNPs stored at dark and at temperature of ~5 °C showed the best long-term stability regardless of the culture age. Such AgNPs remained spherical, fine（5-20 nm） and stable（no agglomeration） even after 6 months.

Increasing evidence points to a role for killer immunoglobulin-like receptors(KIRs)in the development of autoimmune *** particular,a positive association of KIR3DS1(activating receptor)and a negative association of KIR3DL1(inhibitory receptor)alleles with ankylosing spondylitis(AS)have been reported by several ***,none of the studies analyzed these associations in the context of functionality of polymorphic *** better understand how the KIR3DL1/3DS1 genes determine susceptibility to AS,we analyzed the frequencies of alleles and genotypes encoding functional(KIR3DL1*F)and non-functional(KIR3DL1*004)*** genotyped 83 AS patients and 107 human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-B27-positive healthy controls from the Russian Caucasian population using a two-stage sequence-specific primer PCR,which distinguishes KIR3DS1,KIR3DL1*F and KIR3DL1*004 *** the patients carrying two functional KIR3DL1 alleles,those alleles were additionally genotyped to identify KIR3DL1*005 and KIR3DL1*007 alleles,which are functional but are expressed at low ***3DL1 was negatively associated with AS at the expense of KIR3DL1*F but not of KIR3DL1**** finding indicates that the inhibitory KIR3DL1 receptor protects against the development of AS and is not simply a passive counterpart of the segregating KIR3DS1 allele encoding the activating ***,analysis of genotype frequencies indicates that the presence of KIR3DS1 is a more important factor for AS susceptibility than the absence of KIR3DL1**** activation of either natural killer(NK)or T cells via the KIR3DS1 receptor can be one of the critical events in AS development,while the presence of the functional KIR3DL1 receptor has a protective ***,even individuals with a genotype that carried two inhibitory KIR3DL1 alleles expressed at high levels could develop AS.

Hyperlipidemia is very common after liver transplantation and can be observed in up to 71% of patients. The etiology of lipid disorders in these patients is multifactorial, with different lipid profiles observed depending on the immunosuppressive agents administered and the presence of additional risk factors, such as obesity, diabetes mellitus and nutrition. Due to recent improvements in survival of liver transplant recipients, the prevention of cardiovascular events has become more important, especially as approximately 64% of liver transplant recipients present with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. management of dyslipidemia and of other modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, such as hypertension, diabetes and smoking, has therefore become essential in these patients. Treatment of hyperlipidemia after liver transplantation consists of life style modification, modifying the dose or type of immunosuppressive agents and use of lipid lowering agents. At the start of administration of lipid lowering medications, it is important to monitor drugdrug interactions, especially between lipid lowering agents and immunosuppressive drugs. Furthermore, as combinations of various lipid lowering drugs can lead to severe side effects, such as myopathies and rhabdomyolysis, these combinations should therefore be avoided. To our knowledge, there are no current guidelines targeting the management of lipid metabolism disorders in liver transplant recipients. This paper therefore recommends an approach of managing lipid abnormalities occurring after liver transplantation.

Retinal nerve fiber layer changes based on historic CD4 nadir among HIV positive patients undergoing glaucoma evaluation

AIm: To determine relationships between retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL) thickness and nadir CD4 cell count in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) positive patients evaluated for glaucoma ***: Data were reviewed for 329 HIV positive patients evaluated for glaucoma suspicion. High-definition optical coherence tomography(OCT) RNFL measurements were obtained at least 6 mo apart. Analyses were performed to identify relationships between nadir CD4 count and RNFL ***: Totally 110 eyes of 55 patients met inclusion criteria, of which 46 eyes were from subjects with nadir CD4mm^3 and 64 had nadir CD4≥200 cells/mm^3. Patients with nadir CD4mm^3 had significantly thicker superior(119.7±18.6 μm) and temporal(63.8±11.7 μm) quadrants at time of initial OCT compared to the superior(112.8±16.8 μm, P=0.048) and temporal(57.1±11.9 μm, P=0.004) quadrants of patients with higher nadir CD4. This trend toward thicker RNFL among subjects with lower nadir CD4 cell counts persisted at the time of follow up OCT where participants with nadir CD4mm^3 showed average RNFL thickness in the superior and temporal quadrants of 117.9±18.3 μm and 63.8±12.8 μm, respectively, compared to a superior thickness of 110.5±16.9 μm(P=0.034) and temporal thickness of 57.3±11.6 μm(P=0.007) among those with higher nadir CD4. CONCLUSION: Patients with lower nadir CD4 cell counts have thicker RNFL in the superior and temporal quadrants compared to those with higher nadir CD4 counts. RNFL thickness in HIV positive patients may be affected by historic HIV disease control and should be considered when evaluating HIV positive patients for glaucoma.

Background: Infants with congenital muscular torticollis are born with an asymmetric range of motion and a muscular imbalance in the cervical spine, as a result of a shortening or excessive contraction of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Purpose: The study aimed to investigate passive range of motion (PROm) for rotation and lateral flexion, and muscle function of the cervical spine in children that had a history of CmT as infants. Study design: a prospective cohort study. Patient sample: 58 children at the age of 3.5 to 5 years that had been treated for CmT have infants participated in the study. method: PROm was measured with protractors and muscle function was estimated with a modified muscle Function Scale. Data from infancy were taken from earlier records. Result: PROm in rotation of the neck was mean 98.7° and PROm in lateral flexion of the neck was mean 69.1°. Symmetric PROm of the neck was found in 74% of the children for rotation and in 88% of the children for lateral flexion. multiple regression showed that gender and PROm in rotation as infants had a significant impact on asymmetric PROm. Forty-five percent of the children had some degree of muscular imbalance in the lateral flexors of the neck. Conclusion: Possible risk factors for later asymmetric PROm are: gender, birth weight, gestation week and PROm in rotation as infants. These factors ought to be taken into consideration when developing guidelines for long-term follow-up.

A new Gum-type alloy(Ti–Nb–Zr–Fe–O) in which Fe is used instead of Ta was subjected to a particular thermomechanical processing scheme to assess whether its mechanical characteristics(fine ?-grains with high strength and low modulus) render it suitable as a biomedical implant material. After a homogenization treatment followed by cold-rolling with 50% reduction, the specimens were subjected to one of three different recrystallization treatments at 1073, 1173, and 1273 K. The structural and mechanical properties of all of the treated specimens were analyzed. The mechanical characterization included tensile tests, microhardness determinations, and fractography by scanning electron microscopy. The possible deformation mechanisms were discussed using the Bo – md diagram. By correlating all of the experimental results, we concluded that the most promising processing variant corresponds to recrystallization at 1073 K, which can provide suitable mechanical characteristics for this type of alloys: high yield and ultimate tensile strengths(1038 and 1083 mPa, respectively), a low modulus of elasticity(62 GPa), and fine crystalline grain size(approximately 50 ?m).

Long-term effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of silver nanoparticles on microbial biomass, enzyme activity,and functional genes involved in the nitrogen cycle of loamy soil

The increasing production and use of engineered silver nanoparticles（AgNP） in industry and private households are leading to increased concentrations of AgNP in the environment. An ecological risk assessment of AgNP is needed, but it requires understanding the long term effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of AgNP on the soil microbiome. Hence, the aim of this study was to reveal the long-term effects of AgNP on soil microorganisms. The study was conducted as a laboratory incubation experiment over a period of one year using a loamy soil and AgNP concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 1 mg AgNP/kg soil. The short term effects of AgNP were, in general, ***, after one year of exposure to 0.01 mg AgNP/kg, there were significant negative effects on soil microbial biomass（quantified by extractable DNA; p = 0.000） and bacterial ammonia oxidizers（quantified by amo A gene copy numbers; p = 0.009）. Furthermore, the tested AgNP concentrations significantly decreased the soil microbial biomass, the leucine aminopeptidase activity（quantified by substrate turnover; p = 0.014）, and the abundance of nitrogen fixing microorganisms（quantified by nif H gene copy numbers; p = 0.001）. The results of the positive control with Ag NO3 revealed predominantly stronger effects due to Ag＋ion release. Thus, the increasing toxicity of AgNP during the test period may reflect the long-term release of Ag^＋ions. Nevertheless, even very low concentrations of AgNP caused disadvantages for the microbial soil community, especially for nitrogen cycling, and our results confirmed the risks of releasing AgNP into the environment.
