Contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS)represents a great innovation for the evaluation of focal liver lesions(FLLs).The main advantage of CEUS is the realtime imaging examination and the very low toxicity in patients with renal *** cirrhosis has been recognized as a major risk factor for the onset of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC).HCC in liver cirrhosis develops as the last step of a complex that leads to the gradual transformation from regenerative nodule through dysplastic nodule to *** patients with liver cirrhosis,a surveillance program is recommended consisting of ultrasound(US)for detecting small focal lesions.A wide spectrum of benign and malignant lesions other than HCC may be found in the cirrhotic liver and their differentiation is important to avoid errors in staging diseases that may preclude potentially curative *** published studies have explored the value of CEUS in liver cirrhosis and they have been shown to have excellent diagnostic and prognostic performances for the evaluation of non-invasive and efficient diagnosis of FLLs in patients at high risk for liver *** purpose of this article is to describe and discuss CEUS imaging findings of FLLs including HCC and ICC,all of which occur in cirrhotic livers with varying prevalence.

The debate of prostate cancer （PCa） screening has been shaped over decades. There is a plethora of articles in the literature supporting as well as declining prostate-specific antigen （PSA） screening. Does screening decrease PCa mortality？ With the long-term results of the European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate （ERSPC） the answer is clearly YES. It moves! However, in medicine there are no benefits without any harm and thus, screening has to be performed in targeted and smart way-or in other words^in a risk-adapted fashion when compared with the way it was done in the past. Here, we discuss the main findings of the ERSPC trials and provide insights on how the future screening strategies should be implemented.

Aim:Because mutations of splicing factor 3B subunit-1(SF3B1)have been identified in 4%of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)patients,we investigated the activity of new potential inhibitors of SF3B1 in combination with gemcitabine,one of the standard drugs,in PDAC cell ***:One imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole derivative(IS1)and three indole derivatives(IS2,IS3 and IS4),selected by virtual screening from an in-house library,were evaluated by the sulforhodamine-B and wound healing assay for their cytotoxic and antimigratory activity in the PDAC cells SUIT-2,Hs766t and Panc05.04,the latter harbouring the SF3B1 *** effects on the splicing pattern of proto-oncogene recepteur d’origine nantais(RON)and the gemcitabine transporter human equilibrative nucleoside transporter-1(hENT1)were assessed by PCR,while the ability to reduce tumour volume was tested in spheroids of primary PDAC ***:The potential SF3B1 modulators inhibited PDAC cell proliferation and prompted induction of cell *** compounds showed an interesting anti-migratory ability,associated with splicing RON/ΔRON shift in SUIT-2 cells after 24 h ***,IS1 and IS4 potentiated the sensitivity to gemcitabine in both conventional 2D monolayer and 3D spheroid cultures,and these results might be explained by the statistically significant increase in hENT1 expression(P<0.05 *** control cells),potentially reversing PDAC ***:These results support further studies on new SF3B1 inhibitors and the role of RON/hENT1 modulation to develop effective drug combinations against PDAC.

The paper illustrates an innovative procedure for experimental design in mixture analysis. It relies on D-optimal designs performed on the combinatorial explosion of five levels of components composition, keeping in mind the requirements of Central Composite Designs. The final response surface model is obtained by the formerly developed CARSO method.

The effect of aqueous extract of Cecropia glazioui Snethlage (Embauba) in the rat fetal development. This study was to complement previous assays on the physical and neurobehavioral development of rats resulted from oral administration of 1 g/kg/day Cecropia glazioui Snethlage (C. glazioui) aqueous extract (LD50 > 5 g·kg-1in pregnant rats (peri- and post-natal studies). In the present study, the effect of 2.5 g/kg/week C. glazioui aqueous extract, administered to pregnant rats during 15 days, was verified in the rat offspring development. No acute or chronic toxicity (no effects on mortality or weight average daily gain) were observed. In addition, no effects on reproductive parameters (offspring vitality, placenta and fetus weight, number of corpora lutea on each ovary, pre- and post-implantation loss) and on offspring external morphology were found. We concluded that C. glazioui aqueous extract administered during pregnancy did not cause abnormalities in rat offspring.
