Notch signaling in female cancers: a multifaceted node to overcome drug resistance

Drug resistance is one of the main challenges in cancer therapy,including in the treatment of female-specific malignancies,which account for more than 60%of cancer cases among ***,elucidating the underlying molecular mechanisms is an urgent need in gynecological cancers to foster novel therapeutic ***,Notch signaling,including either receptors or ligands,has emerged as a promising candidate given its multifaceted role in almost all of the hallmarks of *** the connection between Notch pathway and drug resistance in the afore-mentioned tumor contexts,several studies focused on the Notch-dependent regulation of the cancer stem cell(CSC)subpopulation or the induction of the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EMT),both features implicated in either intrinsic or acquired ***,the present review provides an up-to-date overview of the published results on Notch signaling and EMT-or CSC-driven drug ***,other drug resistance-related mechanisms are examined such as the involvement of the Notch pathway in drug efflux and tumor ***,there is a long way to go before every facet will be fully understood;nevertheless,some small pieces are falling neatly into ***,the main aim of this review is to provide strong evidence in support of Notch signaling inhibition as an effective strategy to evade or reverse resistance in female-specific cancers.

With the launch of the *** Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED^(■))rating system,new building construction in the United States has rapidly begun adopting this guide as the standard for sustainable *** rating system profoundly alters the design and operation of buildings,however,to date,little has been documented on the cumulative effects of the rating system across different phases of the project lifecycle:planning,architecture/design,engineering,construction and operational facility management(AEC+P+F).Further,the ability to gain efficiencies in the building phase itself is still *** of the delivery system in LEED^(■)attainment also have not been clearly associated with the level of AEC+P+F *** pursue this goal,project participants are becoming involved earlier in the process;information exchanges take place throughout the project lifecycle;and the results of those frequent exchanges impact the value to the owner through focus on attainment of a particular green rating *** features are confi guring a framework for green project *** framework approaches lean thinking by generating value to the owner,improving the flow of information,and transforming the inputs required for the selection of materials and systems,to outputs in the form of a sustainability rating *** research focuses on exploring associations between LEED^(■)criteria,project lifecycle,the stakeholders’interests,lean process improvements and typical delivery systems used in building *** paper proposes a matrix of weighted indexes to explain and provide increased collaboration among project participants,improved efficiency throughout the project lifecycle,and new techniques which may be incorporated into the construction process.

Improving Language Competence of Grade Seven Learners through the I-READ Project

The Integrative Reading Enhancement and Assessment for Student’s Development(I-READ)Project aims to achieve this by providing students with diverse learning experiences that promote critical thinking,creativity,and communication *** project’s primary objective is to equip students with essential language skills that will enable them to comprehend,analyze,and communicate *** study utilized a quasi-experimental research *** researcher prepared reading material and a questionnaire to determine the performance of grade seven learners,who attended Cumba-Quezon Integrated School,in their language *** I-READ Project had a significant impact on the reading skills of the learners in the experimental group,as the learners had significant improvement in their reading ***,the research was conducted solely on grade seven learners,which limits the generalization of the findings to learners of other grades.

Qualification of Soft Costs of the US Federal Guidance When Considering Greenhouse Gas Emissions and the Effects of Climate Change in NEPA Reviews

A notice by the Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) was published on December 14, 2014 regarding the revised “Draft Guidance for Federal Departments and Agencies on Consideration of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and the Effects of Climate Change in NEPA Reviews”. The review of this 2014 draft guidance suggested increased analysis, work, review and approvals required by the State Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) working with and on behalf of local public agencies (LPAs) in order to authorize and obligate roadway projects funded with federal-aid money. All federal-aid-funded roadway projects require a NEPA analysis to be done on the action (project) and an environmental clearance document to be obtained prior to finalizing the design. The 2014 draft guidance may complicate an already lengthy and often critical path activity for roadway projects requiring NEPA documentation.

Effects of Soluble Silicate and Nanosilica Application on Rice Nutrition in an Oxisol

Silicon （Si） has been supplied to plants via application of calcium silicate to soil; however, high doses of calcium silicate are required because of its low solubility. Nanoparticles can reduce Si doses and be applied to seeding furrows. This study investigated the effects of liquid Si sources, i.e., highly soluble silicate （115.2 g L^-1 Si and 60.5 g L^-1 Na20） and nanosilica （〈 200 nm）, on Si uptake by rice plants, plant lignification, plant C：N：P stoichiometry, plant physiology, and grain yield using an Oxisol under greanhouse condistions. The treatments included the application of nanosilica and soluble silicate to seeding furrows at Si doses of 0, 605, 1210, and 2 420 g ha^-1. Plant uptake and treatment effects were evaluated by measuring C and lignin contents, Si, N, and P accumulation, physiological characteristics, and grain yield of rice. The deposition of silica bodies and amorphous silica in the flag leaves was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy. Application of liquid Si increased Si accumulation in rice by 47.3% in relation to the control （0 g ha^-1 Si）, regardless of the Si sources used. Nanosilica application increased leaf lignin content by 112.7% when compared to that in the control. Silicon moderately affected the net C assimilation （increased by 1.83%） and transpiration rates （increased by 48.3%）; however, Si influenced neither plant growth nor grain yield of rice. These results are explained by the lack of biotic or abiotic stress in rice plants during the experiment. To the best of our knowledge, in Brazilian agriculture, this is the first report on the use of nanosilica as a Si fertilizer and its effect on plant nutrition. This study provides evidence that rice plants absorb and accumulate nanoparticles; however, further studies are required to investigate the use of nanoparticles in other plant species.

Mid-term results of patterned laser trabeculoplasty for uncontrolled ocular hypertension and primary open angle glaucoma

AIM:To describe the safety and efficacy of patterned laser trabeculoplasty(PLT)as an adjunctive treatment in primary open angle glaucoma(POAG)and ocular hypertension(OHT)after 18-month follow-up in Hispanic ***:A single-center,retrospective study was *** patients with OHT or POAG undergoing PLT from June 2016 to August 2016 were included in the *** parameters were intraocular pressure(IOP),the number of IOP-lowering medications,best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),laser parameters and postoperative adverse *** efficacy outcome measures were the proportion of eyes achieving an IOP reduction≥20%at 18 mo versus baseline medicated IOP or a reduction in the number of medications while maintaining IOP ***:From 40 PLT-treated eyes(mean baseline IOP 20.3±1.7 mm Hg),24 patients were analyzed(age 63.4±7.3 y).The mean IOP reductions from baseline across visits(months 1,3,6,9,12,and 18)ranged from 14.1%to 20.8%.Success rate after 18-month follow-up was 61.7%with a mean IOP of 16±3.2 mm Hg(P<0.001).The number of glaucoma IOP-lowering medications per eye(preoperative 2.1±1.1 and postoperative 2.3±1.1,P=0.86)and the mean BCVA(preoperative 0.10±0.22 and postoperative 0.11±0.22 logMAR,P=0.42)remained *** events comprised transitory IOP spikes in 4 eyes(10%)and peripheral anterior synechiae in 7 eyes(17.5%).CONCLUSION:Mid-term results of PLT show that this procedure may be an efficacious and safe technique to approach medically uncontrolled OHT or POAG patients.

This study investigates the influence of electropolymerization conditions on the deposition of polypyrrole(PPy)onto cotton-derived carbon fiber(CF)modified with reduced graphene oxide(rGO)for supercapacitors applications using an experimental/theorical *** surface modification of CF by rGO and/or by PPy electrodeposited at 10,25 and 50 mV s^(-1) was thoroughly examined physicochemical and *** electrodes comprising CF-rGo-PPy,synthesized via electropolymerization at 25 mV s^(-1),demonstrated a remarkable increase in capacitance,showcasing~742 F g^(-1) compared to 153 F g^(-1) for ***,N_(2)-surface area,XPS,and TD-DFT approach revealed that the higher capacitance observed in CF-rGo-PPy electrodes underscores the influence of morphology and charged nitrogen species on the electrochemical performance of these modified ***,this electrode material achieves a specific capacitance retention of~96%of their initial capacitance after 10000 cycles at 0.5 A g^(-1) measured in a two-electrodes cell *** work also discusses the influence of the scan rate used for pyrrole electropolymerization on the pseudocapacitance contribution of PPy and its possible effect on the porosity of the *** results highlight the importance of appropriate electropolymerization conditions that allow obtaining the synergistic effect between CF,rGO and PPy.
