Redox, immune and genetic biomarker system for personalized treatments in colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND Identifying biomarkers for the risk of developing degenerative processes linked to aging and colorectal cancer(CRC) onset that could improve clinical *** To determine valid targets and a predictive biomarker's system of chronicization of inflammation for cancer *** A group of 147 CRC patients was studied. Clinical diagnosis was confirmed histopathologically, and patients were sub-typed using the pathological tumornode-metastasis classification. Thirteen colon adenoma patients and 219 healthy subjects were also studied. A system biology study on Thioredoxin1/CD30 redox-immune systems(Trx1/CD30), T helper cytokines and polymorphisms of killer immunoglobulin-like receptors, FcγRIIa-131 H/R and FcγRIIIa-158 V/F was carried out. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to analyze *** study was executed by polymerase chain reaction sequence-specific primers and sequence-based typing method. Statistical analysis was performed by using the "Statgraphics software systems".RESULTS We found a positive increase between Trx1/RTrx1 levels and sCD30 level and increased age. With respect to the gender relationships, there were distinct differences. Females showed a primary relationship between transforming growth factor beta(TGFβ) with Trx1, whereas males had one with TGFβ and RTrx1. Trx1/CD30 controls the redox immune homeostasis, and an imbalance in the relationship between the Trx1/RTrx1 and sCD30 levels is linked to the onset and progression of tumor. This event happens through different gender-specific cytokine pathways. Our study demonstrated that the serum levels ofTrx1/RTrx1, TGFβ/interleukin(IL)6 and TGFβ/IL4 combinations and the sCD30,IFNγ and IL2 combination constitute a predictive gender specific biomarker system. This study assessed the relationships between recall of positive and negative events, API （attention to positive） and ANI （attention to negative information）, and perception of happiness, with the hypothesis that recall affects the perception of happiness and that ANI and API affect recall. One hundred and five women filled in the APNI scale to assess API and ANI and were asked to listen to and recall a story presenting both positive and negative events, and provide an assessment of the character perceived happiness. Finally, they were asked to choose an ending for the story. Results showed that recall is related to the perception of happiness more than API and ANI, and that relationships occur among recall, API, ANI, and perception of happiness. A positive ending for the story was preferred. Discussion focuses on the implications of individual differences in paying attention to and recall positive and negative information.

Cereal crops are significant contributors to global *** climate change disrupts weather patterns and wreaks havoc on crops,the need for generating stress-resilient,high-yielding varieties is more urgent than *** extremely promising avenue in this regard is to exploit the tremendous genetic diversity expressed by the wild ancestors of current day crop *** crop wild relatives thrive in a range of environments and accordingly often harbor an array of traits that allow them to do *** identification and introgression of these traits into our staple cereal crops can lessen yield losses in stressful *** the last decades,a surge in extreme drought and flooding events have severely impacted cereal crop *** models predict a persistence of this trend,thus reinforcing the need for research on water stress *** we review:(i)how water stress(drought and flooding)impacts crop performance;and(ii)how identification of tolerance traits and mechanisms from wild relatives of the main cereal crops,that is,rice,maize,wheat,and barley,can lead to improved survival and sustained yields in these crops under water stress conditions.

Copepods are the main natural food of many marine fish ***,enriched rotifers are the most commonly used live prey in larval *** on the feeding behavior,growth,survival,and fatty acid(FA)composition of winter flounder larvae fed with copepods and rotifers were determined and compared to the FA composition of the two live *** of Eurytemora *** Acartia sp.,two of the main species of copepods present in the *** estuary,showed no significant differences in their essential fatty acid profiles,suggesting similar nutritional ***,only Eurytemora herdmani was compared to enriched rotifers in this *** nauplii were characterized by higher levels of essential fatty acids,particularly docosahexaenoic acid(DHA)and eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA).The selective incorporation of essential fatty acids from diets in larval tissues(polar lipids)indicated that nauplii might better fulfill larval nutritional requirements for DHA than ***,larval behavior was modified according to the diet:larvae fed with nauplii spent more time swimming with no changes in the occurrence of hunting events.

AIM： To describe the morphological changes of the lamina cribrosa （LC） in patients with optic nerve compression. METHODS： Cross-sectional study. Twenty eyes with optic nerve compression, affected by Graves＇ ophthalmopathy （GO） were compared with 18 refractive error-matched healthy eyes. The following examinations were performed： best-corrected visual acuity （BCVA）, intraocular pressure, optic nerve echography, visual field, SD-OCT including the retinal nerve fiber layer （RNFL）, ganglion cell complex （GCC）, and LC thickness and extent. RESULTS： A-scan revealed significant differences in the subarachnoid space （SAS） between the affected and control groups. LC thickness and LC area were 233 pm （SD 23） and 0.41 mm2 （SD 0.19）, respectively. Average GCC thickness （P=-0.0005）, LC thickness （P=-0.001）, MD （P=-0.001） and PSD （P=-0.001） differed significantly between the two groups; whereas LC area （P=-0.2） and average RFNL （P=-0.1） did not. CONCLUSION： Optic nerve compression reduces the SAS thereby altering the morphology of LC thickness and causing GCC damage.
