Oryza CLIMtools:A genome–environment association resource reveals adaptive roles for heterotrimeric G proteins in the regulation of rice agronomic traits

Modern crop varieties display a degree of mismatch between their current distributions and the suitability of the local climate for their *** address this issue,we present Oryza CLIMtools(https://***/CLIMtools/oryza_v1.0/),thefirst resource for pan-genome prediction of climate-associated genetic variants in a crop *** CLIMtools consists of interactive web-based databases that enable the user to(1)explore the local environments of traditional rice varieties(landraces)in South-East Asia and(2)investigate the environment by genome associations for 658 Indica and 283 japonica rice landrace accessions collected from georeferenced local environments and included in the 3K Rice Ge-nomes *** demonstrate the value of these resources by identifying an interplay betweenflowering time and temperature in the local environment that is facilitated by adaptive natural variation in OsHD2 and disrupted by a natural variant in *** quantitative trait locus analysis has suggested the impor-tance of heterotrimeric G proteins in the control of agronomic ***,we analyzed the climate associations of natural variants in the different heterotrimeric G protein *** identified a coordi-nated role of G proteins in adaptation to the prevailing potential evapotranspiration gradient and revealed their regulation of key agronomic traits,including plant height and seed and panicle *** conclude by highlighting the prospect of targeting heterotrimeric G proteins to produce climate-resilient crops.

Fuzzy C-means Rule Generation for Fuzzy Entry Temperature Prediction in a Hot Strip Mill

Variable estimation for finishing mill set-up in hot rolling is greatly affected by measurement uncertainties, variations in the incoming bar conditions and product changes. The fuzzy C-means algorithm was evaluated for rule base generation for fuzzy and fuzzy grey-box temperature estimation. Experimental data were collected from a real- life mill and three different sets were randomly drawn. The first set was used for rule-generation, the second set was used for training those systems with learning capabilities, while the third one was used for validation. The perform- ance of the developed systems was evaluated by five performance measures applied over the prediction error with the validation set and was compared with that of the empirical rule-base fuzzy systems and the physical model used in plant. The results show that the fuzzy C-means generated rule-bases improve temperature estimation; however, the best results are obtained when fuzzy C-means algorithm, grey-box modeling and learning functions are combined. Application of fuzzy C-means rule generation brings improvement on performance of up to 72%.

Facial emotion recognition(FER)has become a focal point of research due to its widespread applications,ranging from human-computer interaction to affective *** traditional FER techniques have relied on handcrafted features and classification models trained on image or video datasets,recent strides in artificial intelligence and deep learning(DL)have ushered in more sophisticated *** research aims to develop a FER system using a Faster Region Convolutional Neural Network(FRCNN)and design a specialized FRCNN architecture tailored for facial emotion recognition,leveraging its ability to capture spatial hierarchies within localized regions of facial *** proposed work enhances the accuracy and efficiency of facial emotion *** proposed work comprises twomajor key components:Inception V3-based feature extraction and FRCNN-based emotion *** experimentation on Kaggle datasets validates the effectiveness of the proposed strategy,showcasing the FRCNN approach’s resilience and accuracy in identifying and categorizing facial *** model’s overall performance metrics are compelling,with an accuracy of 98.4%,precision of 97.2%,and recall of 96.31%.This work introduces a perceptive deep learning-based FER method,contributing to the evolving landscape of emotion recognition *** high accuracy and resilience demonstrated by the FRCNN approach underscore its potential for real-world *** research advances the field of FER and presents a compelling case for the practicality and efficacy of deep learning models in automating the understanding of facial emotions.

Application of wave equation theory to improve dynamic cone penetration test for shallow soil characterisation

Among the geotechnical in situ tests,the dynamic penetration test(DPT)is commonly used around the ***,DPT remains a rough technique and provides only one failure parameter:blow count or cone *** paper presents an improvement of the dynamic cone penetration test(DCPT)for soil characterisation based on the wave equation *** on an instrumented lightweight dynamic penetrometer driving with variable energy,the main process of the test involves the separation and reconstruction of the waves propagating in the rods after each blow and provides a dynamic cone load-penetration(DCLT)*** analytical methodology is used to analyse this curve and to estimate additional strength and deformation parameters of the soil:dynamic and pseudo-static cone resistances,deformation modulus and wave *** carried out in the laboratory on different specimens(wood,concrete,sand and clay)in an experimental sand pit and in the field demonstrated that the resulting DCLT curve is reproducible,sensitive and reliable to the test conditions(rod length,driving energy,etc.)as well as to the soil properties(nature,density,etc.).Obtained results also showed that the method based on shock polar analysis makes it possible to evaluate mechanical impedance and wave velocity of soils,as demonstrated by the comparisons with cone penetration test(CPT)and shear wave velocity measurements made in the *** technique improves the method and interpretation of DPT and provides reliable data for shallow foundation design.

Managing extremely distal periprosthetic femoral supracondylar fractures of total knee replacements-a new PHILOS-ophy

We report two cases where a proximal humeral locking plate was used for the fixation of an extremely distal, type Ⅲ peri-prosthetic femoral fractures in relation to a total knee replacement(TKR). In each case there was concern regarding the fixation that could be achieved using the available anatomic distal femoral plates due to the size and bone quality of distal fragment. The design of the Proximal Humeral Internal Locking System(PHILOS) allows nine 3.5-mm locking screws to be placed over a small area in multiple directions. This allowed a greater number of fixation points to be achieved in the distal fragment. Clinical and radiological short-term follow-up(6-12 mo) has been satisfactory in both cases with no complications. We suggest the use of this implant for extremely distal femoral fractures arising in relation to the femoral component of a TKR.

The structural phase transition in Ta-NiSes has been envisioned as driven by the formation of an excitonic insulating ***,the role of structural and electronic instabilities on crystal symmetry breaking has yet to be ***,the phase transition in its complementary material Ta_(2)NiS_(5)does not show any experimental hints of an excitonic insulating *** present a microscopic investigation of the electronic and phononic effects involved in the structural phase transition in Ta_(2)NiSe_(5)and Ta-Niss using extensive first-principles *** both materials the crystal symmetries are broken by phonon instabilities,which in tum lead to changes in the electronic bandstructure also observed in the experiment.A total energy landscape analysis shows no tendency towards a purely electronic instability and we find that a sizeable lattice distortion is needed to open a *** conclude that an excitonic instability is not needed to explain the phase transition in both Ta_(2)NiSe_(5)and Ta_(2)NiS_(5).

In recent years, it has become increasingly apparent that noncoding RNAs(ncRNA) are of crucial importance for human cancer. The functional relevance of ncRNAs is particularly evident for microRNAs(miRNAs) and long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs). miRNAs are endogenously expressed small RNA sequences that act as post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression and have been extensively studied for their roles in cancers, whereas lncRNAs are emerging as important players in the cancer paradigm in recent years. These noncoding genes are often aberrantly expressed in a variety of human cancers. However, the biological functions of most ncRNAs remain largely unknown. Recently, evidence has begun to accumulate describing how ncRNAs are dysregulated in cancer and cancer stem cells, a subset of cancer cells harboring self-renewal and differentiation capacities. These studies provide insight into the functional roles that ncRNAs play in tumor initiation, progression, and resistance to therapies, and they suggest ncRNAs as attractive therapeutic targets and potentially useful diagnostic tools.

The expansion of the Internet of Moving Things(IoMT)leads to limitless and continuous working playgrounds exploited by highly dynamic end *** requires the adoption of multi-Radio Access Technologies(RATs)-based strategies to provide IoMT units with ubiquitous *** this end,the development of secure bootstrapping and authentication mechanisms is necessary to permit the secure operation of end *** the transmission and power limitations of these elements,current cryptographic solutions do not address these stringent *** that reason,in the study we present a Multi-Access Edge Computing(MEC)-based endto-end architecture that enables an efficient and secure authentication and key agreement between end devices and network servers over heterogeneous resource-limited networks such as the Low Power Wide Area Networks(LPWANs).Our proposal is based on the Authentication,Authorization,and Accounting(AAA)architecture and the recent Internet Engineering Task Force initiatives Static Context Header Compression and Low-Overhead *** results obtained from experimental tests reveal the validity of the proposal as it enables constrained IoMT devices to gain IPv6 connectivity as well as performs end-to-end secure authentication with notable reliability and controlled latency.

Plant micro-reserves in Valencia(E. Spain):A model to preserve threatened flora in China?

The Valencian Community(eastern Spain) was the pioneer territory establishing plant micro-reserves(PMRs). Its model to protect small sites for endemic and endangered plants has been exported to several countries around the globe. This paper highlights 1) the role of PMRs to complement the protection provided by large protected areas, 2) how the establishment of PMRs fosters the increase of floristic knowledge, and 3)the fact that continuous monitoring of PMRs also yields new records of endangered species found within the same PMRs. The flexibility of the PMR approach-it can be adapted to other national and regional legislationsallows its transfer to other rich-biodiversity regions and countries such as China.

The United Nations estimates that by 2050 the world population will reach 9.7 billion(United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs,Population Division,2022),which will increase food ***,predictions anticipate global crop yield declines of 5.6%–18.2%as a result of climate change(Zhao et al.,2017).Climate change will result in extreme weather events that are already occurring and that will become more frequent and variable in the ***,more than ever,we need plants that can cope with unpredictable weather events such as drought or heat ***,understanding and controlling plant stress responses is likely to be one of several fundamental advances crucial to meeting increased crop production *** is an urgent necessity to develop crops that tolerate multiple stresses without a deleterious reduction in fitness under optimal ***,efforts to release such varieties have often failed because of an unacceptable trade-off between growth and stress tolerance.
