The developmental origins of health and diseases(DOHaD)is a concept stating that adverse intrauterine environments contribute to the health risks of *** the theory emerged more than 30 years ago,many epidemiological and animal studies have confirmed that in utero exposure to environmental insults,including hyperglycemia and chemicals,increased the risk of developing noncommunicable diseases(NCDs).These NCDs include metabolic syndrome,type 2 diabetes,and complications such as diabetic *** the effects of different environmental insults on early embryo development would aid in understanding the underlying mechanisms by which these insults promote NCD *** stem cells(ESCs)have also been utilized by researchers to study the *** have pluripotent characteristics and can be differentiated into almost every cell lineage;therefore,they are excellent in vitro models for studying early developmental *** importantly,human ESCs(hESCs)are the best alternative to human embryos for research because of ethical *** this review,we will discuss different maternal conditions associated with DOHaD,focusing on the complications of maternal ***,we will review the differentiation protocols developed to generate different cell lineages from ***,we will review how hESCs are utilized as a model for research into the *** effects of environmental insults on hESC differentiation and the possible involvement of epigenetic regulation will be discussed.

A newly discovered active contact binary in the field of NGC 1348

We present a CCD photometry study of a newly discovered active eclipsing binary in the field of open cluster NGC 1348 based on the first time-series photometric observation. From the minimum times, we determined an orbital period of P = 0.691363 d. Among our datasets, the BV（.RI）c light curves obtained in November 2008 were analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney light curve modeling tech- nique. Because of the uncertainty of the membership of this binary in open cluster NGC 1348, we have analyzed the photometric data in two cases with different primary effective temperatures： Case A （T1 = 7750K） and Case B （T1 = 5250K）. Our anal- yses reveal that, for Case A, it is a deep （f 〉 70%）, very low mass ratio （q - 0.096） binary system, indicating that it is now in the late evolution stage of a contact binary; while for Case B, it is a red system with extraordinarily long orbital period with respect to the period-color relation for normal contact binaries, which suggests that this binary has evolved off the main sequence. The well known O＇Connell effect （e.g., AB 0.03 mag） was found in the dataset obtained in November 2008, which could be due to the existence of starspots on the components, therefore the corresponding spot properties （for Case A： hot spot; for Case B： dark spot） were determined using the Wilson-Devinney code. With the purpose of analyzing the dark spot activity for Case B, we compared the light curves derived in different observing runs, and found that a slight change appeared from November to December, 2008, which indicates the evolution of spot activity on at least one component over a time scale of about one month.

The refined physical parameters of transiting exoplanet system HAT-P-24

The transiting exoplanet system HAT-P-24 was observed by using CCD cameras at Yunnan Observatory and Hokoon Astronomical Centre, China in 2010 and 2012. In order to enhance the signal to noise ratio of transit events, the observed data are corrected for systematic errors according to Collier Cameron et al.＇s coarse de- correlation and Tamuz et al.＇s SYSREM algorithms. Three new complete transit light curves are analyzed by means of the Markov chain Monte Carlo technique, and the new physical parameters of the system are derived. They are consistent with the old ones from the discovered paper except for a new larger radius Rp = 1.364 Rj of HAT- P-24b, which confirms its inflated nature. By combining the five available epochs of mid-transit derived from complete transit light curves, the orbital period of HAT-P- 24b is refined to P = 3.3552479 d and no obvious transit timing variation signal can be found from these five transit events during 2010-2012.

Modelling the Term Structure of Hong Kong Inter-Bank Offered Rates （HIBOR）

Different single-factor models are used to estimate the term structure of Hong Kong Inter-Bank Offered Rates （HIBOR）. These models use stochastic differential equations which effectively reflect market characteristics of short- and long-term interest rates, such as capability of mean reversion and interest rate level fluctuation. For the period from 2005 to early 2007, the economy of Hong Kong had been relatively stable with pretty low volatilities in interest rate. However, starting from 2008 to beginning of 2012, the Hong Kong and the world economies had been steering from relatively stable to fluctuations, the 2008 financial tsunami initiated by the U,S. had been causing financial instability globally. With the U.S： government taking quantitative easing monetary policy, U.S. interest rates fluctuated and submerged rapidly. Volatility of HIBOR was extremely sensitive to fluctuation of U.S. interest rates, since Hong Kong dollar exchange rate has been pegged with U.S. dollar. In short, during the period of early 2008 to early 2012, volatility of short-term interest rate was extremely sensitive. Obviously, the term structure of interest rate for these two periods had made major shift, combining the two periods would lead to unfavorable econometric results.

Long-term transit timing monitoring and homogenous study of WASP-32

We report new photometric observations of the transiting exoplanetary system WASP-32 made by using CCD cameras at Yunnan Observatories and Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre, China from 2010 to 2012. Following our usual procedure, the observed data are corrected for systematic errors according to the coarse decorrelation and SYSREM algorithms so as to enhance the signal of the transit events. Combined with radial velocity data presented in the literature, our newly observed data and earlier photometric data in the literature are simultaneously analyzed to derive the physical parameters describing the system by employing the Markov chain Monte Carlo technique. The derived parameters are consistent with the result published in the original paper about WASP-32b, but the uncertainties of the new parameters are smaller than those in the original paper. Moreover, our modeling result supports a circular orbit for WASP-32b. Through the analysis of all available mid-transit times, we have refined the orbital period of WASP-32b; no evident transit timing variation is found in these transit events.

Male Advertisement Call of the Endangered Leptobrachella tengchongensis(Anura: Megophryidae) from Mount Gaoligongshan, Yunnan Province, China

We present the first description of the acoustic characters of the endangered Tengchong leaf litter toad(Leptobrachella tengchongensis), aiming to inform future ecological studies of the species and taxonomic studies in the genus Leptobrachella. A total of 1179 calls, belonging to 6 adults male individuals, were recorded using TASCAM DR-40 digital sound recorder from its type locality in May 2015 and then analyzed using Raven Pro v.1.6.1 software. The advertisement call of male L. tengchongensis consists of primary advertisement call and secondary advertisement call. The primary advertisement call is invariably composed of two notes and has a call duration of 61 ± 5 ms(23–87 ms, n = 1142). The secondary advertisement call is composed of 3–10 notes(mean 5.25 ± 1.41 notes/call, n = 37) with a call duration of 90 ± 6 ms(37–127 ms, n = 37). The mean inter-call interval is 212 ± 121 ms(88–1121 ms, n = 1092). An introductory note is absent in advertisement calls and the dominant of calls is 4.1–4.8 kHz(at 20 ℃). We discuss the interspecific and intraspecific variations on advertisement calls in L. tengchongensis and among Leptobrachella species, and provide a summary on the major acoustic characters of all Leptobrachella species occurring north of the Isthmus of Kra.

Effects of a 12-week online tai Chi intervention on gait and postural stability in individuals with Parkinson’s disease

Biomechanics analysis of seven tai Chi movements

This study examined the maximum joint angles and moments,and electromyography(EMG)activity of the lower limbs in an experienced tai Chi(TC)practitioner in performing four dynamic(Repulse Monkey,Wave-hand in Clouds,Brush Knee Twist Step,and Lateral Forward Step)and three static TC movements(Starting Form,Hero Touch Sky,and Push Hand Back)and compared them with the measures from *** EMG(iEMG)and peak EMG of the rectus femoris,adductor longus,tibialis anterior,semitendinosus,erector spinae,gluteus medius,tensor fasciae latae,medial and lateral gastrocnemius muscles were ***-way analysis of variance showed that compared with walking,TC presented 1)significantly larger hip flexion(71.4°vs.42.2°)and abduction angles(11.9°vs.5.3°),smaller knee flexion(45.2°vs.71.1°)and abduction angles(13.0°vs.27.7°),larger ankle dorsiflexion(41.4°vs.11.3°)and abduction angles(8.8°vs.7.2°);2)hip flexion moment and knee flexion and abduction moment were significantly *** dorsiflexion moment were significantly smaller,whereas ankle abduction moment was significantly larger in two TC movements;and 3)the EMG activity of the muscles in TC varied from 10%to 610%of *** knee extensors,hip adductors and abductors had significantly higher peak EMG(430%±40%,240%±30%,and 320%±90%)and iEMG values(610%±30%,311%±30%,and 1.4%±20%),*** findings suggested that these TC movements could be a good option for the improvement of muscle strength and range of motion of the lower limbs.
