Background: An impact of regular physical activity(RPA) on the abdominal muscles may be significant when comparing various symptomatic groups. However, there is lack comprehensive information in this field. The objective of this study was to assess the lateral abdominal wall at rest and during abdominal drawing-in manoeuvre in adolescent physically active girls in different body ***: One hundred and forty-four female students, 13–17 years of age, participated in the study. Participants were divided into 2 groups based on a physical activity(PA) statement. Measurements of the thickness of the abdominal muscles at rest and during abdominal drawing-in manoeuvre were made in the supine and standing positions by ultrasound ***: Compared to the control group, activities of the obliquus internus and transversus abdominis muscles were higher in the regular PA group by 8.9%(95%CI: 3.1–14.7) and 36%(95%CI: 19.1–47.5), respectively. In the RPA group, the transversus abdominis preferential activation ratio was greater by 0.03(95%CI: 0.01–0.04), and the contraction ratio was greater by a mean value of 0.35(95%CI: 0.18–0.46).Conclusion: RPA does not have any effect on the resting thickness of the abdominal muscles in the supine and standing positions. Girls performing RPA have a greater ability to perform an independent activation and greater contractions of the transversus abdominis.

During earlier research on shock wave/boundary layer interaction control, the effect of air humidity flow separation has been observed. This has inspired a more detailed study on the effect of air humidity on shock induced incipient separation and on the involved involved processes. The phenomenon has a twofold nature. In supersonic flow, the condensation of humidity causes flow retardation due to heat addition. The consequent weakening of the shock wave reduces the tendency towards separation. On the other hand, the incipient separation is postponed at the same Mach numbers of interaction.

Air velocity and temperature distributions inside operating rooms (ORs) play a crucial role to reduce the risk of infections and to ensure adequate comfort conditions for patient and medical staff. In this work, the authors have developed a three-dimensional thermo-fluid dynamic model to simulate airflow and thermal comfort in an actual OR equipped with High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters. The model takes into account the presence of surgical lights, people and equipment within the room. An experimental campaign is carried out inside the actual OR to measure velocity and temperature, to be employed as boundary conditions for the numerical model. The experimental data have also been used to validate the numerical results. The validated model has been used to analyze the effects of human shape, thermal boundary conditions and buoyancy forces on the main thermal and fluid dynamic quantities in the OR. The thermal comfort is evaluated based on Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) and Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied (PPD) indices. The results prove that the present experimental-numerical approach is useful to analyze and improve the thermal comfort conditions for medical staff and patient.

This review updates the current views on aging gastric mucosa and the mechanisms of its increased susceptibility to injury. Experimental and clinical studies indicate that gastric mucosa of aging individuals-“aging gastropathy”-has prominent structural and functional abnormalities vs young gastric mucosa. Some of these abnormalities include a partial atrophy of gastric glands, impaired mucosal defense (reduced bicarbonate and prostaglandin generation, decreased sensory innervation), increased susceptibility to injury by a variety of damaging agents such as ethanol, aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), impaired healing of injury and reduced therapeutic efficacy of ulcer-healing drugs. Detailed analysis of the above changes indicates that the following events occur in aging gastric mucosa: reduced mucosal blood flow and impaired oxygen delivery cause hypoxia, which leads to activation of the early growth response-1 (egr-1) transcription factor. Activation of egr-1, in turn, upregulates the dual specificity phosphatase, phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN) resulting in activation of pro-apoptotic caspase-3 and caspase-9 and reduced expression of the anti-apoptosis protein, survivin. The imbalance between pro- and anti-apoptosis mediators results in increased apoptosis and increased susceptibility to injury. This paradigm has human relevance since increased expression of PTEN and reduced expression of survivin were demonstrated in gastric mucosa of aging individuals. Other potential mechanisms operating in aging gastric mucosa include reduced telomerase activity, increase in replicative cellular senescence, and reduced expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and importin-α-a nuclear transport protein essential for transport of transcription factors to nucleus. In this study,Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry(DInSAR)of artificial Corner Reflectors(CRs)were validated in the area of fast and nonlinear deformation gradient caused by active coal longwall *** Sentinel-1 datasets were processed using conventional DInSAR,Persistent Scatterer Interferometry(PSI),and Small BAseline Subset methods implemented in ENVI SARscape™.For evaluation,leveling and Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)measurements were *** the challenge of snow cover,the removal of all winter images was not a successful strategy due to the long temporal baseline and strong movement,which cause phase unwrapping problems and underestimate the real *** results indicate that only conventional DInSAR and SBAS with low network redundancy allow us to capture maximal deformation gradient and the root mean square error calculated between the CRs and the ground truth is on the level of 2–3 cm for the vertical and easting deformation component,*** the small deformation gradient represented by the permanent GNSS station(4 cm/year),all SBAS techniques appeared to be more accurate than DInSAR,which corresponds to higher redundancy and better removal of the atmospheric *** contrast,DInSAR results allowed to capture information about two subsidence basins,which was not possible with SBAS and PSI approaches.

AIM： To evaluate peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets in patients with acute pancreatitis （AP）. METHODS： Twenty patients with mild AP （M-AP） and 15 with severe AP （SAP） were included in our study. Peripheral blood lymphocytes were examined at d 1-3, 5, 10 and 30 by means of flow cytometry. RESULTS： A significant depletion of circulating lymphocytes was found in AP. In the early AP, the magnitude of depletion was similar for T- and B- lymphocytes. In the late course of S-AP, B-lymphocytes were much more depleted than T-lymphocytes. At d 10, strong shift in the CD7＋/CD19＋ ratio implicating predominance of T- over B-lymphocytes in S-AP was found. Among T-lymphocytes, the significant depletion of the CD4＋ population was observed in M-AP and S-AP, while CDS＋ cells were in the normal range. Lymphocytes were found to strongly express activation markers： CD69, CD25, CD28, CD38 and CD122. Serum interleukin-2 （IL-2）, IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, interferon-γ （IFN-γ） and tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α） levels were significantly increased in both forms of AP. The magnitude of elevation of cytokines known to be produced by Th2 was much higher than cytokines produced by Th1 cells. CONCLUSION： AP in humans is characterized by significant reduction of peripheral blood T- and B-lymphocytes.

Environmental factors may negatively contribute to a progressive worsening of semen quality,and differences in semen quality may result from different environmental exposures(regional differences)or lifestyle *** metals are factors with a confirmed negative influence on male *** them,lead and cadmium are commonly found in human ***,we analyzed semen parameters(according to the World Health Organization 2010 recommendations)and semen lead and cadmium concentrations in 188 men from two different regions in Poland,a typical agricultural area and an industrial area,in couples that had been diagnosed with *** assays were performed using flameless electrothermal atomic absorption *** the statistical analysis,regional comparisons and then taxonomic comparisons based on three parameters(age,semen concentration,and sperm morphology)were *** showed that more cadmium than lead accumulated in semen,a higher cadmium concentration was observed in semen obtained from men from the agricultural region,and better semen quality and lower cadmium concentrations were found in the semen of men from the industrial,more polluted *** thus showed an existing regionalism in the sperm quality ***,semen parameters such as morphology and progressive and nonprogressive motility followed the same trends,regardless of the patient’s age,region,or *** could conclude that the environment has a minor impact on sperm morphology and progressive and nonprogressive motility and that other existing factors could have an indirect influence on semen quality.

Background:Multi-purpose use of forests in a sustainable way forces a recognition of how introduction of alien woody species in forests with different land use histories affect native plants other than *** Vaccinium vitis-idaea is an important understory component of temperate and boreal forests and provider of valuable non-wood forest *** we studied effects of land use changes and introduction of Northern red oak Quercus rubra on lingonberry in mesic Scots pine forests(in central Poland).We measured lingonberry cover,height of shoots,biomass of stems and leaves,and fruit *** were collected within 200 research plots located in recent and ancient Scots pine forests,with and without ***:We found that ***-idaea reached lower cover,aboveground biomass and fruit production in recent than ancient forests and in forests with than without *** fruit production in recent pine forest was only 2%of that reported in ancient pine forest,and ***-idaea did not reproduce generatively in forests with *** and carbon sequestration of ***-idaea in forests with alien(invasive)trees decreased by 75%compared to ancient pine *** were also clear at the individual shoot level–in less suitable conditions we found taller heights and higher biomass allocation into stems than *** allocation in fruiting and non-fruiting shoots in pine forests was also different–less of the dry biomass of fruiting shoots was allocated to leaves than to ***:In the age of high interest in ecosystem services and discussions about usage of alien tree species as alternatives in forest management,our results clearly indicate disruption of ecosystem services provided by *** in the presence of *** benefited from the continuity of forest land use,however,regardless of land-use legacy,alien tree introduction led to decline in abundance of species crucial for ecosystem functioning.T
