Musculoskeletal alterations in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are less common than liver-related ***,they can significantly impact the quality of life and overall prognosis of patients with *** main obstacle in the clinical assessment of HCC-induced musculoskeletal alterations is related to effective and timely diagnosis because these complications are often asym-ptomatic and unapparent during routine clinical *** narrative literature review aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the contem-porary literature related to the changes in the musculoskeletal system in patients with HCC,focusing on its clinical implications and underlying etiopathogenetic *** bone metastases are the most common skeletal alterations associated with HCC,which could be associated with an increased risk of low-trauma bone ***,previous studies reported that osteopenia,sarcopenia,and myosteatosis are associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with *** though low bone mineral density and sarcopenia are consistently reported as reliable predictors of pretransplantation and post-transplantation mortality in HCC patients,these complications are frequently overlooked in the clinical management of patients with *** together,contemporary literature suggests that a multidisciplinary approach is essential for early recognition and clinical management of HCC-associated musculoskeletal alterations to improve patient *** research into the mechanisms and treatment options for musculoskeletal complications is warranted to enhance our understanding and clinical management of this aspect of HCC.

Given that the liver is involved in many metabolic mechanisms,it is not surprising that chronic liver disease(CLD)could have numerous *** osteoporosis and increased bone fragility are frequently overlooked complications in CLD *** studies implied that up to one-third of these individuals meet diagnostic criteria for osteopenia or *** publications indicated that CLD-induced bone fragility depends on the etiology,duration,and stage of liver ***,the increased fracture risk in CLD patients puts a severe socioeconomic burden on the health system and urgently requires more effective prevention,diagnosis,and treatment *** pathogenesis of CLD-induced bone loss is multifactorial and still insufficiently understood,especially considering the relative impact of increased bone resorption and reduced bone formation in these *** is essential to note that inconsistent findings regarding bone mineral density measurement were previously reported in these *** mineral density is widely used as the“golden standard”in the clinical assessment of bone fragility although it is not adequate to predict individual fracture ***,microscale bone alterations(bone microstructure,mechanical properties,and cellular indices)were analyzed in CLD *** studies further support the thesis that bone strength could be compromised in CLD individuals,implying that an individualized approach to fracture risk assessment and subsequent therapy is necessary for CLD ***,more well-designed studies are required to solve the bone fragility puzzle in CLD patients.

An adaptive numerical scheme is developed for the propagation of an interface in a velocity field based on the fast interface tracking method proposed in [2]. A multiresolution stategy to represent the interface instead of point values, allows local grid refinement while controlling the approximation error on the interface. For time integration, we use an explicit Runge-Kutta scheme of second-order with a multiseale time step, which takes longer time steps for finer spatial scales. The implementation of the algorithm uses a dynamic tree data structure to represent data in the computer memory. We briefly review first the main algorithm, describe the essential data structures, highlight the adaptive scheme, and illustrate the computational efficiency by some numerical examples.

Mountain depopulation is a worldwide phenomenon observed in all continents. It has varied socio-economic reasons;among others, the low profitability of traditional agriculture, the better job possibilities and the higher level of services in urban settlements. However, it is often recognized that depopulation is related to natural factors such as elevation, slope or lithology. It is also observed that protected areas are frequently established in depopulated mountain regions. Their primary aim is the conservation of nature, but they may help tourism development as well. Tourism, in turn, may slow down or even reverse the process of depopulation. In this study, we investigate the impact of topographic and lithologic factors, namely of karst settings, on mountain demographic processes and the relationship of protected areas and tourism through the example of the northern part of Zlatibor District(Western Serbia). The study area is characterized by mountains and hills at elevations from 200 to 1600 m a.s.l. Our aim is to find GIS-based statistical relationships between topographic, lithologic factors and demographic characteristics. In this area, mountain depopulation started after WWII, and weproved that this process was strongly controlled by topographic factors. The higher and more dissected the area, the more significant is the decrease of the population and the more advanced is the ageing. As a result, population density contrasts are much more pronounced now than 70 years ago. After WWII, depopulation and ageing became gradually more serious on karstic terrains than on non-karst. However, by using compound topographic and lithologic types, we proved that it is not the effect of karst, but the effect of topography. The flow of population from hills and mountains to valleys and basins are closely related to the restructuring of the economic sectors.
