Ln.rOx(Ln. La, Sm) mixed oxides of Ln. Zr = 1 were prepared by differen. methods(complex polymerized method, sorption.of cation. on.starch from aqueous salt solution.an. con.en.ion.l co-precipitation.with addition.l redispersion.of precipitate by ultra soun.) an. calcin.d at 700–1300 °C. Their specific structural features an. chan.es were studied an. discussed. Various characterization.methods were used such as X-ray diffraction.Electron.microscopy, Fourier-tran.form in.rared an. Raman.spectroscopy, UV–Vis spectroscopy, X-Ray absorption.fin. structure an. X-ray photoelectron.*** formation.of pyrochlore structure occurred at 1100–1300 °C from fluorite-like pseudocubic phase ZrO2regardless the method of preparation. This phase had a block-like structure con.istin. of ZrO2n.n.crystals stabilized by Ln.cation. an. residual an.on. such as hydroxyls an. carbon.tes. The desorption.of such an.on. with heatin. already started at 900 °C an. lead to local chan.es of Zr cation. coordin.tion.to octahedral an. to the formation.of pyrochlore n.n.domain. in.lusion. within.fluorite-like phase. The in.reased cation.mobility an. further elimin.tion.of an.on. caused by further heatin. was accompan.ed by the formation.of bulk pyrochlore phase at 1100–1300 °C. Even.after calcin.tion.at 1300 °C the local microheterogen.ity as well as defects were iden.ified at domain. boun.aries or sin.ered microstructure. These specific features of the formed pyrochlores depen. on.the method of preparation.

The prin.ipal possibility of separatin. U from Mo an. Zr by gas-phase con.ersion.of the oxides in.the atmosphere of (n.x + vapor H2O) or Hn.3 (vapor) was demon.trated.
